St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

If Jones leaves and Clarkson wants to hire him it's fine with me. ..........

I was wondering how quick someone would comeback with that statement Tim? It only took 10 minutes. See post #476 and #477. Careful what you say on this forum as you can do as much damage to the SLU recruiting with this talk as Mark's reputation may. If you want to make a difference, see post #477 and this statement:

".if you don't support the hiring of Morris. I'd encourage you to e-mail the University, the AD and President. Make your voice be heard". where it actually may influence the decision.

Those who say Mark is not "one of their own". Probably be news to him that he has no history at SLU:
1985–1988 St. Lawrence (assistant)

Who are "those" Cap? Everybody here knows Mark was an assistant at SLU. Saying he's not the right guy to continue SLU's coaching traditions is not the same as saying he has no history at SLU. Nobody said that. In fact, for many of us his history at SLU, much more than his history at Clarkson, forms the basis for our opinions.

Thanks for the advice. Don't worry, I've reached out to the AD and President. The reason that response came so quickly is that it's so obvious. There are lots of posts here from Clarkson fans telling me and others that Mark is a great coach and deserves another shot in college hockey. You are of course free to say so, but it's also appropriate for me to respond by saying "If you feel that strongly about it, then hire him at Clarkson." I meant it when I said I wouldn't go on your thread and criticize you or your school.

One last thing: I do not have to support every decision made by St. Lawrence. If I disagree with something, I get to think it and I get to say it. Particularly when no announcement has been made and we're expressing our preferences for what should happen. Trust me, if Morris gets the job I will wish the program well and move on. But as an alumnus, and knowing what I know about this process, I think that would be the wrong decision and I hope it doesn't happen.

This is the last 2 things I will say on this (I know thank God right). I am shocked that Joe Marsh was not involved in the process. Maybe he was asked and declined, who knows. I did not mean to come across as criticizing you and the other SLU fans. Whoever the coach is that is hired I hope that the SLU program remains strong (Right behind Clarkson ;) ).

Thank you. I think you know I've always enjoyed having you around and talking NC hockey, on SLU threads and CCT ones as well.

The truth is, Mark Morris has become the focus of this discussion only because he happens to be the apparent front-runner. I don't think he is the best option available but that's not just an indictment of him. The real frustration being felt by a lot of alumni/fans is because of the way the entire search was, and is being, conducted. Believe me, people have shown great restraint in this forum. After it's done, even if all the details don't come out, I'm sure more will be said, some here and some in private. Thanks Vic.

If it is Mark Morris, my question is: Will "Puck Ave" be making a comeback on this forum ? What do you think Got6 ;) ?

I'm also curious, anyone know if Joe Marsh was part of the selection team or if he had any input? Can't believe they would hire anyone without some input from Joe.

Joe was not on the committee. In fact, only one player from the Joe marsh era was on the committee. Joe knows less about what is going on than Paul Bunyons spawn do.

I know the assistant coaches play a large role in recruiting (if not then the main role), so if he started at St. Lawrence as an assistant in 1985 wouldn't it be fair to also give him some of the credit for landing some of the recruits that helped us make 5 of 6 ECAC Championship games including winning 3 of them between 1987 and 1992? Especially those recruits towards the early 90's. I am genuinely asking that question as not knowing the full answer to it, but it certainly would seem like a fair question, right? :)

He did not. Long story which has been documented between alums, but his top 2 recruits played less than 5 games total for SLU.

Sorry, I was away for the first part of the weekend and was told that it was a done deal by what I thought was a good source close to a couple of ECAC programs (not CCT or SLU). Regardless, if they hire Morris, I don't think an incident over a decade ago will make much difference, especially given some of the accounts of the incident. What matters to the grade B prospects (and face it, neither CCT or SLU gets grade A prospects, except by dumb luck) is what a coach's program does to develop them for the next level. They want a coach who will make them better as a senior than when they came in as a freshman. Mark has done that at every level. Of course, college hockey is a lot about the assistants too. Morris would not have had the success in the 1990's if it wasn't for the recruiting of Dreschel.

Really, how many ECAC championships did he win? One? Two, in Joe's first 7 years he went to five ECAC title games, won 3. Marsh didn't have scholarships, Morris did. Marsh won when the league was the best there was.

Joe was not on the committee nor was he asked to be on the committee.

One of our own that we were happy to get rid of. He was replaced by Pierre McGuire who was just as bad but at least he brought us the Lacroix brothers and Lappeririere. We cheered when he left too.

He (Clarkson) won 3 ECAC tournament championships in his first 8 years. They also won 5 ECAC regular season championships and made the NCAA tournament in 9 out of his 13 seasons. 11 out of the 13 season he coached they won 20+ games and he never once had a team that was not over .500 at the end of the season. Clarkson, save for 2 or 3 seasons mid 2000's, hasn't been able to replicate this same level of success ever since. That's a pretty impressive resume that would be hard for anyone to ignore! :)

I thought both Daniel Laperriere and Martin Lacroix were freshmen in 1988-1989 which was Pierre McGuire's first season as an assistant?

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Chris Bernard will most likely be the other assistant with Mark Mo, should be announced soon

Morris to St. Lawrence getting closer to done, it seems. Waiting on timing.

Looks almost done

And who exactly were they "listening" to when they made this choice? Seems like player and fan sentiment supported Noreen. Am guessing bank account supported Morris. Too bad. Lost one coach that way. Just lost another.

Best coach in running by a factor of 100 is getting hired
SLU is legit again in 3 years
