St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Congratulations to the Saints on a well-played series. I mentioned on our boards that I've been to Rangers/Islanders, Yankees/Boston in the playoffs, and several other "rivalry" games but the only thing that compares to a Clarkson/SLU playoff series is Army/Navy.

I've got to give credit to every player on the ice, the coaches, and the fans. I had a great time at Appleton and witnessed a bunch of players and coaches putting their hearts on the line every shift. There was hard hitting, tight battles, and to everyone's credit, very little in the way of shenanigans. It looked to me like a series of determined teams with respect for each other.

Despite our status as rivals, I think when we aren't playing each other, most Clarkson fans are North Country hockey fans. So, let me say this for this weekend only ... Go Saints!

Agreed, and thank you. Both teams carried play for significant stretches. Good hockey and great goaltending on both sides, and the best players delivered in big moments.

While we're still basking in the glow of our temporary lovefest . . .

I meant to mention this on Saturday: I read the WDT stories on the games, and the Clarkson story included video of Geiger and Megannety. They are both good interviews - I was impressed with the way the represented themselves and with their perspectives on the game and the series.

Dropped off due to some disagreements with other SLU posters.........rest assured, he is still involved, LOVES SLU Hockey and participates now on our Facebook page which has taken on a much more constructive tone that USCHO has in the past.

Well - the FB page banned me. I've never been banned in Canton before! Now I can add that to my long list of accomplishments. If you're curious, it starts with the post about Kyle doing a golf swing to the pep band after the game. It takes off from there.

I don't have a Facebook account. But if anyone from the FB page happens to read this:

Joe is a good guy and in addition to being a knuckle-dragging Clarkson grad he's a big fan of NC hockey in general, and a hockey dad. SLU players are not immune from doing things that others take offense at. There have been a few things this year that have frankly made me cringe a little. If I were a member of your group I'd want to be able to say so. People who attend Clarkson are just people, and kids who play there are just like the kids who play at other schools. Not that Clarkson doesn't suck, because clearly Clarkson sucks. SLU is obviously superior, especially on the ice. And Clarkson sucks. 😁 But still . . .

It's not my page, and you guys can handle it however you think best. I just wouldn't be too quick to exclude someone who has a lot to add to your discussions.

PFFFT!

The hamburgers were exquisite tonight.

It must be difficult to afford cheese on a Clarkson graduates salary! ;) :p

Retired, playing golf and running our local USA Hockey HS league. Plus helping watch over our grandkids.

My degrees from Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology (A Workman That Needeth Not To Be Ashamed) gave me a wonderful foundation to be able to think outside the box and defy convention when solving problems.

And I'm not a fan of cheeseburgers. They give me gas.

Joe, I'll be one to apologize for one of the admins taking his ball and going home. I didn't really like the golf swing stuff, but at the same time, he waited for the Clarkson players to exit the ice (I believe so, anyways) and he's had some decent back and forth with the Clarkson students/pep band the past couple years. Truthfully, mostly harmless stuff.

The same people who (still) are harping about the whole QU handshake fiasco at Appleton started a stereotypical social media Lynch mob on you. I made an attempt to vouch for you once I saw it start, but I guess I got beat to the punch. I'd hope they reverse course, but if not, you're always welcome to banter about our frienemy teams in here obviously.

I think the general rule of thumb between these two areas of Saints discussion, is to leave the more judgemental/controversial stuff for here. There are numerous parents and former players over on the Facebook page, while this is probably a little more exclusive and not as widely viewed.

Clearly that quarter of a million dollar liberal arts degree that mommy and daddy paid for will get you somewhere in life. :p

And for this weekend that "somewhere in life" will take me directly to Lake Placid, New York to watch my team continue playing in the Championship round ... Clarkson? Well, not so much! ;):D

And you need to go 6-0 to get a nice shiny gold trophy for the school. Let me tell you - the hockey ones look nice.

We have a few more than you on the other side of the Raquette. :D

Well, just as the Donald Trump rallies have proven ... You just never know what can happen!:p

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Well......a tough ending to the season. But the boys should hold their heads high. That was a hell of a hockey game tonight and they came out in the third and dominated things. Posts, 18-7 SOG advantage in the third. Did everything they could to tie it and go ahead but it wasn't to be. It was ironic that the GWG went in off the Harvard players head. Kyle didn't stand a chance. Have to admit it was kind of a karma payback for our goal and there was some symmetry there, although one hates to lose and hates to lose even more on a goal like that one.
I sure hope Harvard didn't leave it all out on the ice tonight.

All in all it was a good year. Sure thought we had a legitimate shot at the NCAA tournament and were it not for that god awful 5 game losing streak...and Jimmy Vesey we likely would have made it there. Thanks to the seniors for their contributions and memories. Can't wait for next year to begin. I have a feeling next year will be our year and we will be back in the tournament again. The future looks bright and we have some top end talent coming in.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

I really, REALLY thought we would beat Harvard on the third try. We did have plenty of opportunities, just couldn't quite finish them off.

I expected that SLU would come out flying, on top of their game, and it would be a little too much for Harvard to handle. But Harvard was just as ready, just as energized, and they were definitely on top of their game. Our guys played well enough to beat most teams in the country, and played well enough to win last night if one or two things had broken differently. But Harvard played great. All in all it was a very good game between two very good teams. What a contrast from the 4:00 game. Quinnipiac is an excellent team, and their PP is impressive, but the game itself was not that great. SLU/Harvard was fast, back-and-forth, high-quality hockey with good chances and good saves both ways for more than sixty minutes. In the end it came down to the best player making two plays.

Next year we are gonna win this thing.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

It sucks that it's over, but it's much easier knowing that the boys put forth their best and it just wasn't quite enough on that particular night.

Lots and lots to be excited about next year, schedule wise and with what we have returning and coming to Canton.

We lose 3 centers, that will be tough to replace and get going from the start.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Just a comment from a Harvard fan. It was a great game of hockey and your guys kept me worried until the end. Fast and clean game and a credit to SLU. Much nicer than our playoff games against RPI. I can't really blame the RPI players as it is clear that the coach trains them to play that way. I suspect he uses Don Cherry Rock'em Sock,em DVDs for training.
Your boys have nothing to be ashamed of and good luck to them in the future (except when playing Harvard :D )

Thank you Veritas! It was a great fast paced game and unfortunately we came out on the short end of the stick, which is a bummer. But it was great to make it to Lake Placid once again and hopefully we can pull it out next year. Good luck tonight! I know a lot of Saints will be rooting for you to win ... Myself included! ;) :)
