St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Clarkson it is. Both games are already sold out too, so it'll be a wild weekend! Let's Go Saints!!

Hopefully the vast majority of those tickets were bought by SLU fans, though I suspect that a lot of CCT fans bought them as well, being justifiably confident that they were going to advance and play us. In good news, someone who was at the game tonight reported that they looked tired and sloppy.

I would imagine most of them were bought by SLU fans. I know some would have been confident enough to buy ahead of time, but I bet the majority would wait until they knew if they won first. Just a thought and hopefully I'm right on that. Either way, it's going to be a battle and if we just play our game and play it to the best of our abilities we can and WILL win!

Oh boy......batten down the hatches!

We better be ready and come out with a lot of vim and vigor.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Reportedly, per SLU athletic dept. the games will be streamed gratis

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

OOPS I was wrong per Wally
The usual near $10 charge by Box Cast applies

So much for my athletic dept. "highly placed source"

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Can't wish you guys luck for obvious reasons, but let's have a series that they'll talk about in the North Country for the next 25 years.

First to 3 goals wins the game(s).

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Well, here goes nothing. I picked Clarkson to win the series 2-0 based on a lot of conjecture and wishful thinking. Our best hope is to come out strong and score a few early, which this Clarkson team almost never does. SLU, on the other hand, seems to always score early when facing Clarkson in Appleton.

I believe if we let Hayton get into any kind of groove in game 1, it's going to be a very frustrating series. If we can get behind him quickly and shake him up, I'm hopeful he will crack under the pressure of the rivalry (he hasn't yet, this is the wishful thinking part). We need to disrupt Bayweather, Hayton, and your top line. Huge part of that is winning faceoffs and possessing the puck while those guys are on the ice - make them chase as much as possible and allow us to roll/match lines despite not having last change.

We do that, we have a good chance to win the series. If we don't, it's going to be ugly, and I'm simply praying Lewis has the mental toughness to deal with what is going to be the most hostile environment of his entire college career (life?).

I agree with the wishful thinking part. I think this series is probably a tossup, which means I think there's a good probability that we'll all be watching on Sunday night, and also that the least likely outcome is a visitor's sweep.

Bayweather -- how cute! ;) His name gets butchered with disturbing regularity -- during last fall's series at Penn State, the PSU play-by-play guy was calling him "Boo-ray-ther"!

As for disrupting our top line, the problem for opposing teams is deciding what our top line even is. Our top two goals-per-game forwards, and three of our top five, are on the second line. More generally, the balanced scoring across much of the lineup makes SLU sort of a balloon that pops out somewhere if you squeeze one part of it.

Fair. I actually know how to spell Bayreuther, but must have just zoned out haha

You need to buy some lottery tickets. Like tomorrow. Nice job.

Wel, that was stressful.

Overall, that's about what we should have expected. Pretty even matchup. I was a little discouraged to see Clarkson outwork and outplay SLU for a very big chunk of the game in Appleton when we had a week to rest and heal. Im somewhat encouraged that SLU could have such a godawful second period and still find a way to win . . . epecially against Clarkson. SLU's speed finally showed in the third. And as usual, Hayton made some big-time saves at points where anything less would have spelled doom.

Called it. Specifically called out Pritchard/Smolinksi/Ward on a different thread as the line that had to be stopped.

Sigh.

While it was discouraging, it wasn't unexpected in my opinion. The week off was bound to accumulate some rust. It was a close call, but fortunately they shook off the rust in time. I think it's going to be tough for CCT to come back and win this after playing 8 periods last weekend -- I expect that another two games would grind them down.

It took some time for Pritchard to adjust this year, but once he did . . . wow. Even when the team seems to have nothing going offensively, he can make something happen.

I still think the smart money is on a third game, and I'm still scared by the idea of having to beat Clarkson to advance, but I'd much rather be 1-0 than 0-1!!! That was a big win against our toughest possible opponent on what was less than SLU's best night. Gutsy effort. But it will take one or two more to have it matter.
