Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon
Tayt....I believe today is the last day of classes. I think I recall seeing something to that effect on the SLU Facebook page.
I'm glad you have a good feeling......we caught a huge break (no pun intended) with Lorito's injury as he has been a thorn in our side and is a very talented player and scorer. Brown has been on a down cycle lately in their last 8-9 games and their record has been horrible during that span. Still, I expect them to give us everything we can handle and if the boys don't come out focused and blazing; then we will be down 1-0 looking at having to win on Saturday and Sunday. I'd call the games a tossup. So many pro's and con's. We've not played particularly well at Appleton which scares me. Brown has played awfully well against us and that scares me. Our record has been much better down the stretch and Brown's has been awful so that should bode well for us. But if I've learned one things with Brown......it is never easy even if we have a far superior team. I remember going down there in 1999-2000 with our Frozen Four team and watching us get manhandled 6-0. We were ranked and Joe played a different goalie each period all to no avail. Brandon Dietrich got his bell rung in that game and was spinning around on the ice like a top. Kept trying to get up and looked like a drunken sailor from the hit. In the end.....it's Brown, so who could possibly predict.
I'd like to say I am confident, but I am not. Was at the Brown game in Providence and that game had all the intensity of a parents weekend intrasquad scrimmage. Totally uninspired....sort of like the crowd.
All I predict is we will either win with flare or lose with flare. I just don't have the feeling this is going to be the same grind it out, one team wins in OT on Sunday type series. I predict one team will win 2-0. I believe SLU has superior talent. That never matters against Brown. We had superior talent almost every year of the last 30 and Brown always takes points from us. Even when we have outplayed them, we find ways to lose. I sat next to Mike for an 8-1 loss at Brown where they had 8 goals on 18 shots.
Don't get me wrong, Brown is not the type of team you can blow out. I predict a 2-0 series win with total goal differential of 3-4 goals over two games.
I can't say it feels good to have no confidence but this team has been so inconsistent. I guess I just hope now that it matters and is do or die, they fire it up. For the sake of what has been a good class of Seniors, I really hope it goes well for them.
I also wish luck to a Saint forever BP playing up the road. Would love to see some first round upsets in the other three series because, as scary as this might sound, winning against Cornell on their ice sounds the most realistic at the moment.
