St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyond?

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

If a rink like Appleton were to make a move to bar code scanners, it would feel out of place and too commercialized, IMO.
The code scanners are hand held. I disagree it would somehow take away the "feel'" of Appleton. Also, it's quick and easy. The bar code scanners can scan student ID's too. It's hardly any different than what you have now. Except you are counted!

What you gain is useful such as: How many people are going to the game, how many students are going to the game and which season ticket holders are going.

If you want to improve in things, you should use performance based measurements. In order to measure things, you need information.

I wish you guys luck this weekend, I have no idea what to expect of the games.

Thanks.....neither do we!!! :)

Best of luck to the Saints this weekend. Here is hoping for the Seniors to go out on a good note with two more wins at Appleton.

Ok, enough of the attendance chit chat, we have playoff hockey tonight! What are people thinking? I have a good feeling about our upcoming playoff run. When do the SLU students go on spring break?

Also the WDT is up with their Friday article - http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20140307/SPORTS03/703079969

Tayt....I believe today is the last day of classes. I think I recall seeing something to that effect on the SLU Facebook page.

I'm glad you have a good feeling......we caught a huge break (no pun intended) with Lorito's injury as he has been a thorn in our side and is a very talented player and scorer. Brown has been on a down cycle lately in their last 8-9 games and their record has been horrible during that span. Still, I expect them to give us everything we can handle and if the boys don't come out focused and blazing; then we will be down 1-0 looking at having to win on Saturday and Sunday. I'd call the games a tossup. So many pro's and con's. We've not played particularly well at Appleton which scares me. Brown has played awfully well against us and that scares me. Our record has been much better down the stretch and Brown's has been awful so that should bode well for us. But if I've learned one things with Brown......it is never easy even if we have a far superior team. I remember going down there in 1999-2000 with our Frozen Four team and watching us get manhandled 6-0. We were ranked and Joe played a different goalie each period all to no avail. Brandon Dietrich got his bell rung in that game and was spinning around on the ice like a top. Kept trying to get up and looked like a drunken sailor from the hit. In the end.....it's Brown, so who could possibly predict.

I'd like to say I am confident, but I am not. Was at the Brown game in Providence and that game had all the intensity of a parents weekend intrasquad scrimmage. Totally uninspired....sort of like the crowd.

All I predict is we will either win with flare or lose with flare. I just don't have the feeling this is going to be the same grind it out, one team wins in OT on Sunday type series. I predict one team will win 2-0. I believe SLU has superior talent. That never matters against Brown. We had superior talent almost every year of the last 30 and Brown always takes points from us. Even when we have outplayed them, we find ways to lose. I sat next to Mike for an 8-1 loss at Brown where they had 8 goals on 18 shots.

Don't get me wrong, Brown is not the type of team you can blow out. I predict a 2-0 series win with total goal differential of 3-4 goals over two games.

I can't say it feels good to have no confidence but this team has been so inconsistent. I guess I just hope now that it matters and is do or die, they fire it up. For the sake of what has been a good class of Seniors, I really hope it goes well for them.

I also wish luck to a Saint forever BP playing up the road. Would love to see some first round upsets in the other three series because, as scary as this might sound, winning against Cornell on their ice sounds the most realistic at the moment.

Sweet one from Sweetman! Way to go boys!! Did anyone else lose the sound in the third?

I know Mike did. I bought the video feed and it worked fine.

I too bought the video feed and it worked excellent. Huge win tonight!!! We looked strong all around as well I thought. We were strong defensively and carried the play most of the way. Gotta give Brown a lot of credit, they fought hard and battled all night. They had a couple defensemen who were all over the ice tonight and Lappin really took it to us as well. Let's hope we have enough fuel left in the tank to finish it off tomorrow. Would love to get out of Appleton with a sweep!

Either team could've won it several times in the first OT. Speaking of which, did the Careys ever come off the ice during that period?

You know, I actually was noticing the same thing. I was thinking to myself that those two are going to be completely spent if we are pushed to a game three. Heck that's the majority of the reason I really hope we can manage to pull this one off tomorrow night.

So far, so good. Keep it up, guys!

Actually, other than the PP's, I thought the other two lines probably got equal or more ice time. I thought the Essery, Ward, Dahl line was very good and Dahl is going to be good...he had a very good night. Wick, Doherty and Hughes also got a lot of ice time. I say it every week - I am going to miss Jeremy Wick. Greg Carey was very good tonight. Wenny was great - can't fault him for either goal.

Brown sure didn't go away and Goldberg & Robertson were excellent for them on D. I think Robertson is very good. As for Lappin - well, he had some good chances to win it, but I hope the way it plays out is all he did was drag out the game an extra 21:27 to further tire out Brown for tomorrow night. Class move by Wenny giving their goalie a tap on the pads as he went to celebrate at the end of the game. He was their best player by far and is the reason is was close.

The hardest game to win is the one to end another teams season. We got to come out blazing tomorrow. I hope Princeton can weather the storm and take game two tomorrow.

The student walks up and shows their student ID to the person who would take your ticket. At that point they just wave the student in. No tickets are torn, exchanged or scanned. SLU does not have bar codes on their tickets hence they do not use scanners.

As a side note, I went to a Norwich hockey game three years ago (Division three) and they used hand held scanners and scanned in tickets and season pass holders. There are far more important things for the program than this, but since we are on the subject I'm just pointing it out.

RPI uses scanners (in case someone takes on a league survey. Union does not scan .) Haaa

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

I was listening on the radio feed and I lost it and couldn't get it back. Thanks to Tim U for all the text updates as I had to settle for the Live Stats for updates. Not sure why I lost the feed but I tried reconnecting....using different browsers and nothing worked.

Nice win tonight. I hope we come out tomorrow night and put the petal to the metal early and take their spirit away. I think if we can get up early by a couple of goals it might break their spirit. Here's hoping we can end it in two.

Over the course of the game, but definitely not in the first OT. And I think there were more scoring chances in the first OT than in the first three periods combined, especially for Brown.

I thought we were sunk when Lappin tied it. That was a very good win.

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

Overall, a very good game for the Saints last evening. They carried the play for most of the game and had plenty of chances. By my count SLU hit 5 posts during the game. The first PP unit looked very goal and could have had a couple more PP goals if not for near misses great play by their goalie.

I thought Kyle Essery had one of his best games of the year.

The only spot that didn't seem to be clicking was the 2nd PP unit. Smolcynski did not play last night and is usually on that 2nd PP unit. Without him, that unit seemed to be very disjointed.

But again other than that the team looked very strong.

Hopefully the Saints bring their A game tonight and finish Brown off.

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

Smolcynski also didn't play against Princeton. Is he hurt?
Hopefully, the team won't rest on its laurels (like it seems it can) and comes out firing like we know it can.

Not being smarmy, but......this team doesn't have any laurels to rest on!
