Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon
Thanks for putting that to bed. Your replay access must have been better than the online stream because that surely wasn't clear. Regardless, a goal is goal, thanks for the compliments and good luck to UND the rest of the way.
I say no goal. You can see the puck the entire time hence it couldn't have gone under the cross-bar, but, I'll concede that it is pretty hard to overrule the call on the ice.
Critsports nailed, as soon as you fly west of the OH/NY boarder, you can not expect to get calls and you can also expect a number of phantom calls against. We got both but still almost prevailed in both games. I agree it is a good showing and after the third and I am sure UND knowing that calling #2 a goal was a gift, they felt fortunate to get out with a win. As long as I live, I'll never forget what happened to us at Western Michigan early in the 87-88 season. For those that don't remember, we entered the 3rd of the 2nd game out there up 6-1 and played almost every minute of the 3rd period and OT down 2 men losing 7-6 in OT. Some were absolute phantom calls. It was so obvious, you would have to believe that the refs had money on that game. Ever since that, Joe Marsh made it a point (which he was always right about) that you have to deal with homer refs everywhere but the ECAC and in the ECAC they often favor the visiting team. Regardless, that's one of the obstacles you have to over come as a good team.
I am pretty certain it is reciprocal but I just can't recall. I am not at all certain. What I am certain of is that I am no fan of this league reallignment. When it destroys rivalries like Denver, CC, UMD and UND against Minnesota and Wisconsin, eliminates the CCHA in whole, increases the number of autobids to several small leagues like the new WCHA and NCHC, I just can't warm up to it. I personally feel like the chances are good this will really harm the prestige of a bunch of programs - basically all western teams not in the Big 10. I do expect a meteoric rise of Penn State - they''ll benefit, but really think this will take some getting used to and may hurt a re-emergent ECAC with a number of teams in the league posting some big NC wins and solid records in the first half.
Any way, good to see two pretty solid 60 minute efforts and good play front to back. These games against Clarkson are huge as are the games against UVM. Let's hope the roll starts now because I will bet money these next two games which will decide who gets home ice and the bye in March.
