St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Oh jeez, I'm getting the shakes. I haven't had a 30 pack of Genny in a full week. Somebody get me to the Hoot Owl!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

I just hope I make it to the game this time. Usually I end up passed out in a snowbank somewhere with underclassmen ****ing in my shoes.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

I will be attending my first Saints game tomorrow night for the 1st time in almost 5 years. The students are on break so the fellas need all the support they can get!

I didn't realize the students were on break. Ugh, we could have used their support this weekend, especially considering the way we have been playing lately. We need all the help we can get. I will be there as well and glad to hear you're able to make your first game in 5 years. I don't know if I could ever make it that long without seeing my Saints in action live!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Unexpected coaching change, and then injuries galore (the extent/number of which I've never seen happen to an SLU Team EVER), we will nonetheless be playing for a top-4 ECAC RS finish and a home ice playoff bye Sat. against Colgate. That possible accomplishment is very impressive in my book and all of us should be delighted. I know that I am. GO SAINTS!

Don't know if I entirely agree with you Brian. I think we need to take a step back and say....... "Coming into the season, given the talent and roster; what was the expectation?" My expectation was one of two things.......either winning a title in Lake Placid....or, getting an NCAA berth." Both can still happen if the first happens. The latter doesn't appear to be capable of happening any more unless we win out in Lake Placid. I think any chance we had to move up on the PWR rested on beating two good teams in Cornell and the upcoming game against Harvard.

So given that expectation.........the story is yet to be written. My concern however is how the team has been playing the last few weeks. I'll be honest, based on what I saw tonight and last week and against Clarkson I don't see a team capable of winning out in Lake Placid or even in getting there. I know we are dinged up. I know we've had significant and long injuries. But the pace of play and look of the team does not at all seem to me like the team we saw over the first half of the year. I sure hope I'm wrong. I hope they can get the bye, heal up a bit and rest.....and make a run. But considering we've only played one game each of the previous two weekends resting up shouldn't be an issue. Hate to say it but I think we've underachieved given the expectation many of us had coming into this season. That can still get fixed but all the steps leading up to it happening lately have been missteps. And that doesn't bode well.

That's my main concern too, (unless just about every guy is playing with a serious injury) there has been barely any effort the past three weeks. They played hard for about 15 minutes last night and less than that at Clarkson and Princeton. This team right now looks like the last thing on earth they want to do is play hockey.

That being said with the talent on this team they could flip the switch and make a deep run not only through the ECAC's but even into the NCAA's. It would be a real shame for this group of seniors to go out with a whimper which is the way they are trending right now. Time to start grinding out 60 minutes each night again and things will get back on track quickly. Go Saints!
