St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

The hit ended Hitchcock's game and junior hockey season in the second.

Oh okay, thanks for the clarification. Sorry to hear he is likely out for the season, that's a tough loss for you guys. We are fighting through the loss of a couple of our best players as well. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery and a bright future for him.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Looks like the team created a ton of opportunities with 40 shots. Any first hand reports? I was very impressed with Pritchard at the Yale game. He is a difference maker and it seems he was again last night. Another shutout for Hayton, wow. We have had some great goalies at St. Lawrence but this kid has put up incredible numbers. Clearly goals against is more than just the goalie, it's also a measure of team defense. To have only 16 goals against in 13 games is beyond outstanding. Tonights game is a big one. Cornell in Ithaca is always a challenge. I think we will be up to it though. Go Saints!

I was there in person and I'll echo everything you mentioned above. I will add that I was noticing that we seemed to be doing a good job of controlling play by possessing the puck in our offensive zone for long stretches of time. This was clearly wearing down the Colgate defense which lead to a few fantastic wide open chances out in front of their goalie. We do seem to be struggling a bit with finishing off our open looks, which we need to work on a bit, but it seems to be progressing each game now through this injury stretch we are having. I thought Colgate's goalie was very strong last night as well. He flat out robbed a couple of chances from us, especially in the first period. He kept them in the game until the latter part of the 3rd period ... I will be at Cornell tonight along with 50+ other fellow Saints fans on the Saints hockey fan bus. I've been to Lynah a few times before over the years. It's always one of my personal favorites. We will need to be on our game 100% tonight and then we should be fine. It's a touch place to play so it should be fun. Let's Go Saints!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Well, that one was a tough one to lose last night, but Cornell played great and we didn't finish when we needed to. This is something we have been struggling with ever since Gavin has been injured. We need to finish off our chances when we have them. That being said, we did create some good looks and we battled back from behind once again, which is good to see that they can continue to battle back. Big weekend coming up back in the friendly confines of Appleton Arena. We need to make sure we play hard for the full 60 minute game Friday against RPI and don't run the risk of overlooking them by looking ahead towards the big match-up with Union on Saturday.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

I too was at the game. How about that Mac n Cheese at the pre-game party? delicious.
Guy I was with who plays in a senior league commented on how hard Cornell was hitting. And that was the most fighting I've seen all year. But we were in the game the whole night and it could have gone either way.If our first goal had stood and Cornell's goal #2 hadn't sailed over top of Haytons glove(that must have frustrated him) we might have had a different outcome.I say SLU takes em in Appleton

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Sounds like a good game but again a little more offense would have turned the tide. As Saints #1 said we can't sleep on RPI or we will regret it. Lets take care of business Friday, then we can worry about Union. Have to keep them off the board and create some offense. We need some Ws to stay relevant in the pairwise. I assume we escaped the weekend without any more injuries?

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

For anyone who will be attending tonight's game, don't forget to wear white. They are doing a White Out for tonight's game. Should be a fun weekend of hockey ahead of us. Let's Go Saints!!!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Well, it certainly wasn't pretty, but a wins a win. We need to be much better tomorrow night if we hope to come away with a win.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Huge game tonight. We will need an exceptional effort from everyone, especially Hayton. Hope the friendly confines of Appleton is unfriendly for Union. Looks like there was some late game crap between Union and Clarkson last night. Dufour got tossed. Is he available tonight?

I am never certain on these things. I think if they get a major/game misconduct they can play. However, Dufour in the penalty summary says Disqualificaiton......I think that means he sits a game???

Watched the whole game. Thought our effort was decent but we just aren't finishing or scoring enough goals. For the better part of three years we've been relying on Kyle and it's nice to have that luxury. But it's high time the whole team stepped up and took some pressure off of him by controlling the chances, pushing the play back to the outside again so he can see everything that's coming his way, and scoring some goals to have some breathing room.

I don't think for a minute this won't be a tough game and if I were a betting man it certainly looks from a scoring standpoint that Union would be heavily favored. Reading all their summaries it sound like the second and third lines are now contributing which makes them pretty **** scary with that first line they have.

if we play like last night we'll lose like 5-1. This Saints team often surprises me but I really do think they will have to take it up several notches to come away with a victory tonight.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

DQs sit. For the 1st two game misconducts you can play. Game misconduct #3 results in a 1 game suspension

Wasn't pretty just like those 3rd uniforms last night. Hopefully those never see the light of day again...ugly. Big one tonight, Go Saints!!!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

So, apparently Gavin Bayreuther is listed in the lineup for tonight's game. Woah, that's a big boost at the just right time! 😳

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Wow. That is a GREAT win. Wish I was there. Sure seems like Bayreuther was a key contributor. Maybe the young guys getting ice time while guys were out will pay dividends in terms of depth as we go. Any first hand comment?

I was not at the game but did watch streaming it on my Ultra HDTV.
It was a gutsy move by Bayreuther to play. He only just got fitted with a special cast which we were told last week at Cornell was so he could skate with the team. According to the game broadcast he did not practice or skate with the team this week but just stepped on the ice and played. He was rusty. Fell a few times losing his edge and frankly he was responsible for giving up a couple of the goals. But he did get one back by scoring. Last night the freshman carried the team. Tonight, Gilmour was obviously the hero. Scored two goals and the second one was tipped in and the game winner with 17 seconds left.

Kyle had a very strong game particularly saving us as we were out shot in the third pretty handily. Lough skated hard as always. Sweetman was strong and absolutely crushed Vidmar on a clean check that essentially took Vidmar out of the rest of the game. We got down 3-1 and came back. Very exciting game. Union is the real deal. They can control the play for long stretches and can score quickly. They had a lot of scoring chances and Kyle held down the fort.
