St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Hmm. I hope the decision to play Gavin before he is healed doesn't backfire. No doubt that his presence in the locker room and on the ice is enormous. I just want him healed up in March. Thanks for the run down of the game. Glad critisports said the Sweetman hit was clean. Someone on the Union thread thought it was worthy of a suspension. Here's hoping the league agrees the hit was okay. On to Clarkson.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Cograts to SLU, that was a fantastic game last night. I thought both teams had chances to put things away and the Saints made the big play at end to win it. I too thought Sweetman's hit was clean - was unfortunate as Vidmar kinda had his head down reaching for the puck. From what I've heard, Vidmar is ok and hopefully will be back next weekend. Didn't like the ending, but thought Union played well and hopefully we get another crack at you guys. Good luck the rest of the way (or at least until we meet again)..

It was a dang fun game to watch, both teams put on a show that you would expect 2 of the top 3 teams in the league to do. Glad to hear Vidmar sounds to be alright, though I agree that it was simply an unfortunate outcome to what appeared to be a clean, solid hit. Hopefully we'll cross paths again on the big sheet in about 6 weeks or so.

Sweetman jumped and it was to the head, that hit has suspension written all over it, he wasn't trying to hurt him but concussions are a serious issue in todays game.

Yeah maybe 25 years ago that's a clean hit

For what it is worth as I do NOT have a dog in the fight and wanting great and safe hockey, it is MHO that based on the clip you provided, the Sweetman hit was clean although his skates did leave the ice but any D in that same situation would have done the same. This is one of the rare times (because the players are so fast, agile, and skilled) that the D man played it perfectly, maybe even guessed correctly on the forward's path in OPEN ice. It would be akin to an unblocked middle linebacker squaring up his shoulders exactly to those of the running back. It is almost important to note that Vidmar lowered his level thus creating more of a high hit. I certainly hope that Vidmar is OK and healthy enough to play this weekend.

I respect your opinion, I just have my opinion of Sweetman charged at Vidmar to cut space away as a great D would, Vidmar may have slipped a tad and lost his balance allowing his head to go lower but it still was contact to the head and with the attention concussions draw now I feel it should be a suspension. I have seen headshots that have been issued suspensions in this league over many years that are not even close to this hit so who knows, I'm pretty sure Union has to file for it to be reviewed and judging by how the assistant coaches were going at it from center ice a bit I'm assuming that was brought up. If it is filed and there is not a suspension given out then ECAC Hockey will continue the trend of being inconsistent.

Nope, the Union assistant coach informed the St. Lawrence assistant coach that he thinks Hayton is a A-hole and that Hayton would get what was coming to him if they see each other again in the playoffs. Nothing was said about the hit.

Don't even bother with him GoldenBear. He is a Clarkson fan with a clear agenda. Who is next on Clarkson's schedule? Well, of course it's Eric Sweetman and the St. Lawrence University Saints. He needs a more productive hobby because clearly the hobby of sticking his nose in where in doesn't belong isn't going real well for him.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Sorry, I can't post here anymore. As a Saints fan, I'm too uneducated to form opinions and offer my comments! LMAO.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Any further updates on the other players out with injuries? I hope we can continue to get healthy and stay on our little roll. Go Saints!

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Neutral opinion here, was only able to see the hit once, then boxcast wants $8 to watch. Looked like a clean hit to me, the frozen pic when you first get on shows Vidmar's head under Sweetman's armpit, not sure about the height diff in the two players though. Another thing noone has mentioned is that when they hit, in the millisecond after, both players skates will be off the ice, if Sweetman "launched" himself that's diff, I'm going to try and get another look.
BTW, good to see some feistyness here on the thread again.

FWIW, around the 4:22 mark begins our latest controversial play.

That was a good, hard, clean hit. Which is exactly what those of us who saw it live thought as well. Btw, that photo that was posted from the video feed was captured is as he is going down after the initial contact which naturally brings his head down closer to the point of contact. Watching it on video and watching the actual hit you can clearly tell it wasn't to the head at all.

I haven't heard anything new yet. The last update I had was that Marnell could have potentially been back either the RPI/Union series or for the Clarkson game. Since we didn't see him for the RPI/Union series I am assuming there was a new update that I hadn't heard about. I'll try and update everyone here if I find out anything new.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

Looked like a great hit to me, what are they talking about ? And TX

I agree, it definitely was a clean hit. No idea what those few people that think it wasn't are even talking about. They think contact to the head/charging and I absolutely do not agree.

Re: St. Lawrence Saints 2016-17 Season

And now today Alex Gimour makes the league's monthly awards as rookie of the month. Congratulations once again Alex! What a mid-season pickup he was! :)
