Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Completely off topic, random question here ... I accidentally clicked on the Mobile App link to the right of the main page and it switched the Fan Forum to the Mobile view... I am not bad with technology and such, but I cannot figure out how to get it back to the normal view. Anyone know how to fix this?

I think previously, people have said that they clear cache and cookies on their internet browser, close the browser, then log back in. If that doesn't work, do a search in the cafe threads, I know it has been asked about several times.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I just want to say Flanny's performance on Saturday night was as good as a Appleton farewell as I can ever remember seeing. Carey is an absolute goal scoring beast but Flanny is Mr. Hobey.

Yes, it was. Flanny has had some games where he was a man among boys...the Maine games were like that. I hope Maine enjoyed watching him! Need him to keep coming back like that from here on out. Yeah, I think Carey can shoot the puck!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Looks like Carter Franz made the trip south with the baseball team for spring break, just making things even more interesting for roster spots this weekend. Not sure who fills in as the 12th forward at this point

If the lines are the same as last week:

Carey Flanagan Wick
Hughes Thompson Doherty
Martin Essery Hagen
Bruckel McGovern Dyer

Not sure there is the need for a 12th.....issue is d but I hear Stratford is going to give it a go

Assuming Austin is out and Stratford can't play, they could use Dyer as sixth d.

Hughes/Baker
Dewey/Raley
McMullen/Dyer

...which would mean there is need for 12th forward.
Which means we may have an interesting situation with Tom Fay's star center fielder who, as of last weekend, was in Fort Myers as Main Street points out.

Fitzy at WDT tweeted today that Austin is indeed out for season. Only other option is sticking with 5 defense and just rolling with it. Not ideal, but we may need to.

Btw, this worked ... Thank you :)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I'm sure this is a stupid question, buy where's Vangog?

I believe that Coach Carvel mentioned in a recent SLU Audio Broadcast that we had lost two players before the season even started. I believe that he was referring to M. Carey and to Vangog, and that both are still at SLU..............so, am assuming they'll both be playing for the Saints next season.

You know, I had completely forgot about Vangog, thanks for the info. Matt Carey I knew was delayed his coming to SLU by a year and he will be here for this coming season. I hope he is up to the level of his brother. I would even take half of that :)

From a reliable source a while back, Matt is very good but not quite as good release-wise as Greg (my note: nobody is). That's good enough.

Franz not in the lineup in FL yesterday. have to believe he's headed to the whale.
Check out his stats from last season: 42 gm .429 BA, 70 hits in 153 at bats, 53 runs scored, 36 rbi, 16 2b, 4 3b, 6 HR, 8-9 sb

Carter is still in FLA, missed yesterday's game with an injury. Going with what we have for healthy hockey guys.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good luck this weekend you guys! I have you all the way to the Whitelaw Cup. I always root for SLU - a class act - except when they are playing my team :)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

This was posted March 6 on the SLU Website. Congratulations to Wally on a long-overdue and well-deserved honor..............your commitment and hard work has not gone unnoticed, not to mention your great job doing the Color Commentary on the audio for SLU Hockey, Football, and other types of sporting events:

Mar. 6: Wally Johnson, the St. Lawrence University Director of Athletic Media Relations, has been chosen for induction into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame Class of 2013 this summer in Orlando, FL on June 13 during the 56th annual national convention.

"All of us in the athletic department are thrilled for Wally, as we all know how hard he has worked over his 38-year tenure at St. Lawrence," said University Director of Athletics Margie Strait. "As time has passed, Wally was able to adapt to the challenges of sports information and new modalities for sharing information about deserving student-athletes at St. Lawrence University."

Johnson has put together a storied career in the sports information business, becoming the first college division to win all three of the profession's major awards, including CoSIDA's Warren Berg Award (2001), ECAC's Irving T. Marsh Award (1995) and the Pete Nevins Award (2012). Temple's Al Shrier is also the winner of the Marsh and Nevins Awards and the CoSIDA's Arch Ward award. Johnson was also the 1971 Vermont Sportswriter of the Year.

His dedication to his work was also exhibited through service, as he served for 25 years on the ECAC-SIDA board and was a long-serving chairman of the CoSIDA Workshop Exhibits Committee. Wally is a founding member of St. Lawrence University's Athletic Hall of Fame and continues to provide coverage for 12 Saints teams.

A native of St. Albans, VT and a 1971 graduate of the University of Vermont, he was the assistant sports editor of The Burlington Free Press prior to joining the staff at St. Lawrence. He was also a sportswriter and columnist for The Vermont Sunday News and St. Albans Messenger and worked as a commentator on University of Vermont basketball broadcasts. He currently does the color commentary on Saint hockey games on the radio in addition to providing home and away articles for various North Country newspapers.

The CoSIDA Hall of Fame will induct six new members, including Johnson, who have made outstanding contributions to the field of college athletic communications. The remaining five include:

- Justin Doherty, CoSIDA past president and Associate Athletic Director for External Relations at the University of Wisconsin

- Bernadette "Bernie" Cafarelli, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at University of Notre Dame

- Jim McGrath, Associate Athletic Director at Butler University

- Jim Seavey, Director of Sports Information and Compliance at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy

- Fred Stabley, Jr., who retired as Central Michigan University Director of Sports Information in 2005
