St Lawrence Hockey

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Really hope this isn't the last weekend we see #10 in the lineup. Bobby Mack tweeted that Carey has been discussed by (some #) of NHL clubs, but isn't in the top 3. DeKeyser (WMU), Laganiere (Yale) and somebody else are what is considered the top dogs in an average, at best, UFA pool.

Let's give them hell and bring it for 60 minutes tonight.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

My guess is that Carey isn't going anywhere. He is the epitome of a student-athlete, carrying something like a 3.6 GPA, and would probably want to stay in school and get his degree. That aside, he will also have the opportunity to play with his brother next year, as Matt will be eligible finally. I think those two factors will keep him in Canton for another year.

I tend to agree with this, however we've never had 6-7 digits of dollar bills staring us in the face to play hockey ;)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well we saw the good goalie play, and the first line came up big. Unfortunately it was Grilk and Ylae's first line.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

That was one of the worst efforts of the season and at the most important time of the year. How can they come out so unprepared like that? They should be ashamed of that effort and the result displays it. Hopefully they got an *** chewing in the locker room and they come out and at least make it competitive tomorrow night. Come on guys, I expect much more out of you then this!!!

May-be the bus broke down and they had to walk the last 20-30 miles, that would do it especially if they had to carry their own equip.Got beat to every puck to-nite, no jump at all and gave the puck up all game---not good, completely unprepared for the week-end

How in the world does the team not come prepared for a weekend like this, with so much on the line. Completely unacceptable! Turn it around guys!

Very disappointing. Time for the guys to take a deep breath and turn it on Sat. They can do it. They have the skill and passion to win this series. Reach down deep guys.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Just got back from the Whale.
Not a lot to add to the comments. The Lake Placid Saints version showed up tonight, not the late season Colgate version. Not making excuses, but we are depleted and it was obvious tonight as wave after wave of talented Ylae forwards flew by us. The depth of their roster and line up versus ours really showed tonight.

Can't remember too many games I have watched where the opponents had the number of odd man rushes that Ylae did tonight. I hope Wenny is OK and good to go tomorrow night. We are going to need him.

Plus we are going to need one of the lines to step up. We had nil offense tonight and our first line was completely shut down.

I too hope the team comes out and at least makes it competitive tomorrow night. I am sure the boys, coaches as well as us fans were not proud of the effort tonight.

Here's hoping for better.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Reminded me of when I took the family to the debacle in Portland a few years back
Although the late game, early season loss to RIT at the War Memorial also ranks up there

On the positive side the video from America One was splendid
Actually could read the names/numbers on the jerseys.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Unfortuanately, the effects of the injuries are only going to get more pronounced with every period. Last night was huge, and much more important for SLU than for Ylae, and for whatever reason Ylae was the team that played like it mattered more to them.

Not much to be done about it at this point . . . just leave it all on the ice tonight and see what happens. I still think this season has been a success overall, but it would be a shame to have it end with an effort like last night's.

Last time I was at The Whale, rumors were circulating that the Yale All-Access video/replay HD equipment came about due to a gift from a very eccentric alum who eats, drinks, and sleeps Yale Hockey. One source told me that this character even flew in from a ski trip in Gstaad, where he has a mountain-top chalet, just for a Yale appearance in the NCAA regional two years ago. Seems he got to see the Yale OT thriller vs. Air Force, only to see the Frozen Four dreams dashed by that horrible CTH call (5 minute major and game DQ) against Brian O'Neill. If the Bulldogs make it to A.C., I must meet this guy and shake his hand !!!

I'd like to find out what Yale purchased. Do you happen to know?

I would hope SLU or the Friends of St Lawrence Hockey would look into the same set up. The Yale feed and the Harvard feeds this year are by far the best. Both are in HD. It's great. Just tune in the game on your laptop and run a HDMI cord to your HD TV and presto, it's like watching a real TV broadcast that is crystal clear in HD.

It appears SLU still uses a standard definition camera for the feeds and not a HD camera. That's a pretty inexpensive fix.

Yale uses a service. They specialize working with College Athletic Programs, shoot in high definition (1980 x 1080) and feed to their servers which stream over the internet. It is not that expensive. High definition camera's which shoot in low light conditions like a rink are fairly inexpensive. I am on the board of a Cable TV station and we were looking at this service. You should check it out. Good Luck. Email me if I can be of help.

Hey Tom:

Thanks for your e-mails! We'd love the chance to tell you more about our service and how we can help your organization!

For starters, here is what we can provide with the "Varsity Package":

•Customized, branded portal for your organization (so users don't have to access the broadcast from a page that's cluttered with a list of broadcasts for other schools)
•Unlimited number of viewers
•Mobile streaming (iPhones, iPads, Android devices)
•Complimentary license of Wirecast Pro for video streaming (a $995 value)
•Ability to integrate advertising into the broadcast AND the portal (we don't insert our own ads, and you keep 100 percent of the revenue from your ads)
•Access to real-time and historical viewer statistics
•Live, phone-based customer support for broadcast personnel and rapid-response e-mail support for your viewers

Our regular rate is $100 per broadcast, but we can discount that to $90 per game on a commitment of 10 or more broadcasts in a 12-month period (and we can offer even deeper discounts if you commit to 25 or more).

As for recommendations for cameras (and other equipment), we can definitely help with that. It might first be beneficial for us to have a quick call so I can better understand your goals.

Do you have any availability later this week or next?

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Thanks Dutchman. I see that Yale and Harvard both use Stretch Internet. It's probably not a coincidence that those were the two best video feeds I saw all year! With you being a Union fan, do you know if they are heading in this direction next year?

Admittedly a tad self serving in that I watch the games out of Canton: I will throw in
$300 to get the ball rolling to upgrade the SLU video feed. Anyone else?

Count me in Ivan. While I still make it to a few games a year over to Appleton from VT, there are many times in the Fall I can't and would love to watch a HD feed.

I'd be in as well.
I know from talking to coach Carvel that he/they did purchase some sort of an HD camera. So they likely already have one but perhaps are using something different for the game.
Are you on the SLU/Coaches e-mail list??? If so you will notice the You Tube video's he posts are in HD.
If I get a chance to see or talk to him before the game tonight I will ask him.

Not that I know of. I was also looking at it for a private school which my son attends. What makes it very attractive is the ability to use multiple camera's and to use a console to switch between the camera's, and to do instant replay. These things are very difficult unless you are shooting in an analog equipment. They provide you software to let you do this in a total digital world. The RPI crew, which shot at Atlantic City last year, did a great job, but had to replicate the analog environment they have in Troy, which is impressive. You should bring it up with the Athletic Director for SLU. You can make it into a money maker too.

The bottom line here is that there are now a number of service providers who will take your digital feed from a server and stream it to a website in near real time. Equipped with a high def camera connected to a server connected to one of these service providers will allow you to let your SLU fans see the game almost live, on their PC assuming bandwidth and graphics etc. Actually, this is exactly what Google did when it did the video for the Olympics.
