Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I don't know about you but I am a big Rangers fan and for me rooting for the Flyers is a no go. However, now that Kyle is with the organization they have bumped themselves up my list from hated to acceptable :p
Not with HarryZ on the team sorry

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Silly Flyers fans already writing Kyle off because he is an "undersized" center

Not a Flyers fan at all, but they DO have a history of signing and developing NCAA players into NHL talent. Plus, I'm sure that the fact he still plays his "home" games quite close to home is a nice perk.

That's funny coming from fans of a team who had one of the best small guys ever in Bobby Clarke

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Both Carey and Flanagan have been named Hobey Baker finalists. Congratulations to both on this great news.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Doubt either will advance to the hat trick, but still a tremendous honor and testament to SLU hockey.

First time SLU has had 2 players make the same final 10.

Quite the awesome accomplishment. Congrats to both Greg and Kyle. Very well deserved for both!!!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

While this came as no surprise, congratulations to Carey, Flanagan, and Hughes for being named to the ECAC First Team. They all are playing or will play at the next level at some point, and I think at least one of them ends up in the NHL.

SLU has another recruit slated to arrive this fall, Ben Masella a RD from Chilliwack of the BCHL. He made the right choice.

As for the ECAC semifinals, both games confirmed that the outcome of games in our league is impossible to predict. Also, the league should be embarrassed by the majority of "prime-area empty seats that were disguised as fans." We picked the right-3 years to not make the final four.

George Hughes signed an ATO with San Antonio (AHL)... http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Despite the disappointing finish, what a special year for a very special team: half of the ECAC First Team is Saints (thank you Kyle, George, and Greg) and two Hobey Baker Finalists (thank you again Kyle and Greg-it should be a tie.) I've only been a Saints fan for a few years, so can anyone tell me if there's been a Saint team that's had so many players receive such high honors in the same year? It's certainly been a blast to watch these guys over the last few years, and they've turned me into a Saints fan for life! Thanks guys for a lotta fun over the year (and for making me hoarse at the last Colgate game.)

If you go on the SLU Athletics website in the mens hockey section......click on "Program"........that will take you to the Saints Record book. I am a late comer to Saints Hockey as well having only followed it since my daughter was a student there starting in 1999. (That was a great team to start with!) In those years we had two All Americans each in 1999 and 2000. The record book shows you all of the All Americans, Hobey Award nominees from SLU, etc.

This is I think a link for it: http://www.stlawu.edu/athletics/sites/stlawu.edu.athletics/files/2012%20Mens%20Hockey%20Record%20Book.pdf

It is the first time we have had two Hobey finalist but technically there were 3 All American's in the class of 1988 - Lammens in 87 as junior and McColgan and P. Lappin in 1988. The 1987-1999 team had a bunch of All-American's - Lammens, P. Lappin, McColgan, Hurlbut, Kuntar, and would have had at least one more in Baker who got injured 13 games and 29 points into his 1989 senior year. Andy Pritchard should have been an All-American as well with his pitiful 65 points as a senior. Essentially, that team was so loaded that there should have been more but no team is going to put more than 3 guys on an All-American list in a season. I don't think talent wise this year stacks up well against 87-89, but I'll take nothing away from these three guys. Maybe it is even harder for these three to do what they did as the drew all the attention from their opponents and still put up fantastic numbers night after night.
