Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Man, good thing we didn't fire Carvel on that 11 mile drive back from Clarkson!!

Don't look now, but we are 3 points out of the bye, with a game in hand on both Dartmouth and Union.

Geez, I thought they were going to fire him before the bus even left Cheel.

On a serious note, today's WDT article about last night's game reported that Wick was injured on that hit that resulted in the 5 min. major. I hope that he is OK.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Make sure your guys are ready for some cheap shots from Darcy Murphy and Tyler Spink of Colgate . And even worse, last night neither got ejected from the game for obvious hits from behind. Murphy gets a 5 min major for charging from behind and sending Howden head first into the boards. Spink levels Geiger on a hit from behind at the end of the game. Geiger is lying on the ice with a cut chin from his facemask being almost torn off and the referees say it was a clean hit (from behind yes sir).

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well, it's a point I guess. Princeton lost, Dartmouth lost.

I agree Brandon but still I hate to lose a lead in the third and it appears we either ran out of steam or got outplayed in the third. Seemed like we were hanging on there at the end as opposed to stepping on the gas. I'll take a three point weekend at any point though!!!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Anyone know the name of the artist or the name of the song the Saints play when they first come on the ice each period?

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

From today's Watertown Times,
“It’s definitely frustrating after we had a two-goal lead in the third period,” defenseman George Hughes said. “We made some bad decisions ... We have to know how to defend a lead.”
Agreed, George. Several other similar situations this year. But-great effort overall! Wick has turned it on, and that's great.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

This whole "no lead is safe" thing is worrisome for sure, and it'll be magnified in the playoffs if they don't find a way to solve it.

BUT, 3 out of 4 points from Colgate, and 3 out of 4 points on the weekend is nothing to sneeze at. I think all of us would've signed up for that on Thursday, right? And honestly, after what I saw in Lake Placid back in early December, I am amazed at what this team has done over the past 3 weeks. It's been a huge turnaround, and while the scoring of the first line has been huge, I think most of it has just come from plain old hard work. Let's face it, SLU has been noticeably outmanned in a few of these games - the only way they were going to win was to be the harder-working team top to bottom and they did it.

Hard work has, indeed, paid off. Another solid wekend by the Saints. Nice work, guys.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Correct. Wasn't nominated for the first wave. Flanny is our only hope, and while he is having a very good year as well, he won't win it, and may not make the final 10.

Greg Carey will still get consideration for the Hobey as the coaches select three candidates from each conference regardless of the initial nominations.

Thanks for the info. Greg will more than likely be nominated, and deservedly so.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Nolan Gluchowski a defenseman for the Tri-City Storm (USHL) has committed to SLU.

Here's the write-up, from the Tri City Storm website. Nolan will be joining the Saints in 2014:

GLUCHOWSKI COMMITS TO ST. LAWRENCEE

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

KEARNEY, Neb. – The coaching staff at St. Lawrence University hasn’t been shy about their feelings for some of the current Tri-City Storm players. On Tuesday, defenseman Nolan Gluchowski became the second Tri-City skater of the season to commit to play college hockey for the Saints.

Gluchowski, who is in his first full season with the Storm, said he fell in love with the school instantly when he stepped on the Canton, N.Y. campus last weekend.

“I really didn’t know what to expect,” Gluchowski said. “The campus is beautiful and the arena is awesome. It’s a nice old barn, and the student and city support they get is awesome. They’re just all for hockey and that’s what I loved.”

The defenseman has appeared in 33 games this season, registering six goals, six assists and 38 penalty minutes with a team high plus-minus rating of +8.

A Wixom, Mich. native, Gluchowski will join fellow Storm teammate Brian Ward at school in the fall of 2014, after spending another season playing for Tri-City.

“He is such a great teammate and leader,” Gluchowski said of Ward. “Playing another few years with him will be awesome.”

The 19-year-old said St. Lawrence gave him the option of coming back to Kearney, and he made the decision to stay with the Storm for another season.

“No matter what I was going to come back,” Gluchowski said. “I feel like another year of the USHL will get me more ready to play college hockey and I can step in and be a difference maker right away.”

When Gluchowski looks at his conference schedule, he’ll see a lot of familiar faces on opposing rosters. The Storm have six other skaters who are committed to play in the same conference as the Saints, the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference).

“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Gluchowski said. “It’ll bring back a lot of memories of playing here. Some of my best buddies will be playing in the ECAC so it’ll be a good chance to get to see them often.”

The Storm are getting ready for a weekend of games that starts on Friday night in Lincoln against the Stars, and ends on Saturday night in Kearney when the Fargo Force come to town for a 7:05 p.m. game
