St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

SLU fans,

Do your line charts always say "Zeebs du Jour:Joe Carusone, Nick Litterio; Lines: Steve Shufelt, Jean Yves Roy"?

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

Good game tonight-both teams did not deserve to lose this one-and neither did. Very impressed by the SLU forecheck and their defensive positional play. This is a good team and deserves to be near the top of the ECAC. RPI played about 55 good minutes-but a 5 minute lapse at the beginning of the second period cost them. I would love for these 2 teams to make it to Albany and match up there again.

Maintenance better check the lights on the Home side of the scoreboard at HFH. I think it's going to get a workout tomorrow night. ;) It was actually kind of sad to watch Clarkson take such a beating tonight though I know we've taken plenty of slappings from them in the past.

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

I know Clarkson is having a down year but ouch this one has to be the low point of the season. I havent followed them much other than before they played RPI the first time in the north country but is there a reason why they are having such a down year? Injuries, suspensions, criminal charges, girlfriend issues?

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

I'm happy with the tie. I agree with DD's points...opening five minutes of the second SLU ran a clinic and got two goals in three mins. They are a very, very solid team.

Clarkson has won something like one game since November but I wouldn't look past them, despite the final score in Schenectady tonight, not with RPI's tendency to sometimes play to the level of their opponent. If they play the full 60 mins they should blow the doors off the Knights but if they mail it in it could be close. Red needs every point they can get right now.

York played well, but does Merriam get the start tomorrow night to give York a break before the homestretch?

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

I for one do not take Clarkson lightly ever...Too many times RPI has been burned by the Knights to ever overlook them. I agree if RPI plays 60 minutes of good hockey they can come away with a W, but I also fear the playing down to the level syndrome they seem to have. I would say start York, if and thats a HUGE if they get a good lead give Merriam some time.

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

Buddy of mine went to the U - Clarkson game 11-2 KO. Thanks to suspensions and injuries, Clarkson has only four healthy defenseman on the roster, along w/two forwards who have been moved back to the blueline. To say they are reeling is putting it mildly. MVT hat a hat trick. Union rolled third and fourth lines for half the night. U stopped shooting the puck -- at all -- with about 5 minutes left. Not saying we'll have that easy go of it, just reporting what I was told.

Yes, that is Wally Johnson at work. A classy curmudgeon all the way!!:D

Would have liked to have held on for the W. RPI has some very solid players who can skate. It was actually a pretty entertaining game until our best line got broken up by a game misconduct and we were SH with 3 minutes to go then I wanted to vomit. Great game by Keller and McKenzie. We continue to miss some guys from the lineup that could have really helped tonight such as Child, Flanagan and J. Keller.

I expect tomorrow at HFH will go one of two ways...a close, hard fought game or a penalty laden ****-piling. I feel bad for Clarkson actually, 11-2 stings. We could really use Clarkson starting to win now from a standings point of view since the can't catch us now!

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

I don't know any particulars on injuries/illness/suspensions, but Clarkson dressed only 16 skaters tonight, including at least 2-3 that look like "5th liners". Essentially 3 lines and extra forward. No Rufenach, DeFazio or Tuohimaa - all top players. Also had 2 listed forwards playing on the blueline. Doesn't explain why Karpowich couldn't stop a beach ball, but it really wouldn't have made a difference if Martin Brodeur was in goal. The Knights were gassed by the second period. Was tough to watch.. felt bad for Roll and players like Beca who played his heart out tonight. Tomorrow's game in Schenectady will be MUCH different I bet..

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

Congrats to MVT on the hat trick. Also good job to SLU for neutralizing Polacek and D'Amigo at least from glancing at the scoresheet (I'll watch the game once I get home, again a big thank you to RPI TV for archiving these games). In previous years that would be a loss, but now with our depth, we were able to pull a point out of it. I'd like two, and we now need an extra to get to top 4 (since SLU holds the tiebreak), but since Union and SLU are playing tonight, we have a good chance to pull a bit closer. We would have to beat Clarkson first though, naturally.

BTW, a poster made a comment concerning "softening SLU up". Satisfactory enough? ;)

It's mostly been injuries. Clarkson also lost Julien Cayer to injury last weekend, so their roster has been decimated, to be polite. During the pre-game interview, George Roll said he found a lacrosse player who could skate, so he was considering adding him to the roster. ;)

You don't usually take much from the warmups, but even then, Karpowich looked like he was having trouble. You could also see that all of the Clarkson goaltenders were getting no defensive support, though I thought Laveau & Rosen looked as good as they could, given the circumstances.

This was definitely not the Clarkson hockey I watched for years. Painful to see, so I hope this is just a fluky year and they'll be back next year.

Yes, I would say that will more than do, thank-you :).. Now, of course, Union has to take advantage and play a good game

Re: St. Lawrence & Clarkson @ RPI & Union (2/5, 2/6)

Can anybody get this video to run? i can not view any of the videos on either of my computers

Yeah, we're having a bit of compatibility problems in certain browsers with our new site. Please try an alternate browser to Internet Explorer if you have one installed.

We should have this particular problem fixed later this evening.
