St. Cloud to NCHC

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

I find it kind of hypocritical that the original 6 in the NCHC didn't invite SCSU in the first place and then came crawling back to beg(maybe not the best word but I used it anyway) SCSU to join their party.

I also agree with that. They started out by asking the prom queen to the party, and ended up with the dork in special ed.

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Just call it the National Collegiate Hypocrite Conference and be done with it, OK? Hypocrites abound on both sides. Jeez.

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

The NCHC won't be getting half the league into the NCAA's every year.
It may happen, but it won't be an annual thing.
Some SCSU teams have been able to compete, and then they fall short.
A 42% winning percentage against the NCHC does not give me a lot of hope that we'll be making the tourney consistently and without winning, all those recruits some people expect will be coming won't be.
Big time kids don't play for losing programs no matter what conference they are in.
We could have been the top dog in the WCHA, instead some people would rather be a middle of the road NCHC school.

I said 3 or 4 teams getting in. So I agree half the league won't get in every year.:p also, like I said about us getting into the League. We need to wait and see how this all pans out. If Notre Dame doesn't go to the BIG, they will join the NCHC and then I would bet they will add another team as well. With 10 teams your weak arguement becomes even less valid......:D

Wanting to win is a weak argument now?
Let's say ND does come, IMO that puts us at best 6th most years behind UND, DU, CC, Miami, & ND.
If that's a good formula for you, fine, but to me, it looks like a lot of outside looking in for the NCAA's.

Like I said before. Over the last 12 years SCSU has been to the NCAA's 7 times. Funny so has CC and Denver..... With 5 auto bids and 11 at large bids every year SCSU will get to the NCAA's plenty in the NCHC because there is no reason they can't get 3 or 4 teams in every year. Hopefully starting this year they will have better success in the NCAA tourney. I find it funny that miss positve is now miss negative on our program.:p

And now you got rid of a couple gimme wins (or almost gimmes) by getting rid of some not-so-good schools, theoretically hurting your record, and your chance at an at-large bid.

And 444: while hockey is probably the least affected of the four major sports, there are a ton of kids who use college hockey as a steppingstone to the NHL, and care enough about education to remain eligible, and that's about it.

I'm miss realistic and unless they improve their winning % against the NCHC teams, they won't be seeing the NCAA's on a regular basis.

You have to consider that if the fallout of this is the folding of several programs, the tourney could very well go back to 12 teams.

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

The funny part is we can tell the difference between the two sexes.
I should hope so. If you don't know the basic gender differences you shouldn't be out in public unsupervised. :D

Are you kidding me? You call us the fart that squeaked in, I point out that you would (in the analogy you created) be the ***, and then you accuse me of crying? :D Buddy I'm laughing, and its not WITH you
No, the fart comes OUT of the ***. That would make the WCHA the ***.

I also agree with that. They started out by asking the prom queen to the party, and ended up with the dork in special ed.
I don't know what you're talking about, the prom queen (Denver) accepted.

From day 1 people have been mentioning that the NCHC wouldn't have bottom-feeders. Well, now we do. You're all hypocrites. :D

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Yes they would.
Go read dahuskies, it's the same argument Rabid and a few others have been making and the response is yes, they'd rather be a 3rd, 4th, 5th in the NCHC than winning titles in a "weaker" WCHA.
Doesn't make sense to me either.

Seems ambitious to me.
5th, 6th or 7th seems more realistic.

Sorry to see the Huskies go. I think the new WCHA teams will have sufficient chips on their shoulders to make things more competitive against their old foes. I'll still be there. GO BEAVERS!

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

UND never should have spearheaded the NCHC.

It is getting a bit suspect when this new league now has 6/10 of the teams from the former WCHA and likely could end up with 7/10.
It was said they didn't want to split conference money between 10 teams - and now the NCHC is rumored to be at 10 teams when all is said and done...

This has basically all come down to UND and DU not wanting to be in a conference with UAA, BSU, MTU and MSU. That's it. People can clamor about how Bruce Mcleod was so inept and destroying the WCHA, but that seems like a real red herring to me. The guy presided over the most successful and powerful conference for how many years? He must have been doing something right.

Again, it's nearly impossible to argue that this is in any way better for UMD or SCSU than the 10 team WCHA would have been.
Sure, once the conference had been formed, SCSU had a very difficult decision to make. But before the conference was formed? No way I would support this if I were the SCSU OR the UMD administration.

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Not at all what's comiing from the football boards. They believe that even with all the realignment chaos...Notre Dame is well positioned to stay independent.

University of Colorado (along with Utah) football fights addition of Oklahoma State/Texas Tech to Pac-12.
Pac-12 announces no expansion to 16.
Oklahoma backtracks, with Texas, saves Big 12 (for now).
No pressure on Missouri, no super-conferences this week.
No pressure on Big 10 (football) to expand. (Shifts between Big East and ACC irrelevant to Big 10, SEC writing its own ticket after A&M.)
No pressure on Big 10 football, no pressure on Notre Dame.
No pressure on Notre Dame football (still more a national than regional audience), smartly chooses to remain independent.
No Big 10 football membership, no Big 10 hockey membership??? (This is the big question - will Big 10 do a hockey-only member?)
No Big-10 hockey-only membership, independence not a great idea (the other outstanding question, is independence an option for the Irish?)
Notre Dame joins NCHC (and Colorado College/University of Denver) - it all comes full-circle.

Anyways, sorry to clutter up this thread. Welcome, St. Cloud.

I still haven't seen a good explanation for why this should be the case. College hockey will walk away with the same number of conferences, and some relatively minor re-shuffling between them. How much different will scheduling be for the left-behind schools in the WCHA? Michigan Tech loses games against... Denver, CC, and North Dakota? Gains Northern Michigan and LSSU. Seems like an attendance wash to me. We could go school by school, but I am curious which schools are at risk today that weren't already teetering on the edge the day before the NCHC was formed.

Attendance wash? Heh.

All the schools that left the WCHA (and I do mean all) will miss that Final 5 payout, that's for sure. You won't see a 70K (or so, on AVERAGE) turnout for any of these conference tourneys anymore.

Well that's probably true, but the NCHC schools will take that hit too. I'm not sure the Final 5 would've survived the loss of Minnesota and Wisconsin long-term anyways. I imagine the ADs made that same calculation. (EDIT: On the other hand, if we end up with some sort of rotating NCHC tourney, I'll be satisfied. Sooner or later it'll wind up in Colorado. And the Twin Cities... eh, the payday was nice, but that's about it, not someplace I particularly want to travel to in March.)

My original question though -

Specifically, which schools do you expect to be at risk today that weren't already teetering on the edge the day before the NCHC was formed???

He was talking specifically about programs folding as a result of these changes.

I've already answered that, too.

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Mankato.

Duluth, St. Cloud, and UND drew pretty well. All three are gone. The Purple Mavs are probably toast.
