SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I'm excited for hockey this weekend. I won't be making the trip to Duluth because I'm headed to Madison for Saturday's Camp Randall game, but I love Friday's game because it's a good opportunity to approach it like a road playoff game. SNC probably only needs a tie to be in great shape for the #1 seed and CSS needs a win to have any real shot. SNC needs to approach it that they'll basically guarantee no road post-season games this season with a win. They could certainly get neutral games if they could get to the Frozen Four, but there would be no true road games.

Agree - we are heading to the twin ports and looking forward to two great games! Hopefully the new two faces to the roster will continue their great starts - about time some current skaters are challenged as to who gets ice time!

Great start for Astle & Ekstrom, as they both scored a goal on their first shot in their first SNC start:) :) :)

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I feel wierd hearing "Back in the New York Groove" on Project Runway commercials. SNC should have them design new hockey uniforms!

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I wish I were down there to see it, I think many people are going to be utterly surprised with how many Green Knights are missing from last years squad.

pete99race - You might want to add "Wanted: 1 goalie and a line or two".

Going to be a tough season for SNC regardless of their goaltending situation.
How has this prediction been treating you lately? Funny we haven't heard from you. If anyone wants some free entertainment, go back to about 3 or 4 pages into this thread when a couple of the Stout posters were telling us how lucky SNC was to beat them opening weekend and how great Stout is simply because they are Stout. You know Stout, the team that is .500 in the league, a game below .500 overall, and likely finishing smack dab in the middle of the 7 team league standings. Maybe a little bit of a cheap shot, but we said it was ridiculous then and we have no reason to retract.

I can't say I ever go into a game rooting for a tie (although I did predict it in the Pick 'em), but I guess we'll take it. I'm happy to see them play good defense and not let CSS frustrate them into playing reckless with the way the Saints always seem to get a piece of the puck and take away space when you thought you had a little to work with. 3 points up with 3 games to go is looking pretty good. They can still afford a stinker, although I'm not suggesting they cash it in. They just need to keep piling up the wins to give themselves the safety net of a Pool C just in case. After they swept Stout I said in a different thread I thought they'd have a good shot to wrap it up when they played Stout at home the final weekend. If they are ready to go tomorrow afternoon it looks like a reasonable chance this will shake down.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

i hope the knights enjoyed the twin ports. not the worst thing to tie and tie. one win next weekend and you take the conference right? a mistake against the jackets cost you, but other than that the knights are a good good team.

i would imagine pool c is locked up for SNC.

I believe that you are correct that a win on Fiday night and/or Saturday night would do it. Soup could help us out by taking out the St. S. Saints on Thursday night though. It would be a good "statement" game for your likely first round Peters Cup matchup.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I'd have to break out the tiebreaker rules to see what happens if they split this weekend since SNC and CSS split 1-1-1 this year. They need to make it a non-issue and get it done at home this weekend. They've scored 1 goal in 3 of their last 4 road games...and two of those were to teams tied for last. Saturday is a little disappointing to me because it isn't as if the Superior goalie stood on his head for 45 saves to earn the tie. They probably didn't deserve any better than a tie. The Knights need to get on a roll quickly because they may have only 2 more games until the NCHA semis.

You are correct as well. Thursday Thursday Thursday!

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I'm too lazy to break out the rulebook, but I do believe the first tiebreaker is by NCHA wins (not sure if it's after H2H, but that doesn't apply anyway).

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Tiebreakers:

1 - League victories.
2 - Goal differential in games among tied teams.
3 - Goal differential in all NCHA games.
4 - Coin flip.

Tale of two teams:
On road this season: 2.6 goals per game......
at the CCC: 4.9 goals per game.
I didn't look into past seasons, but this differential must be among the highest in the last 10 years.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

snc needs to find a way to finish consistently if they want to go far in the NCAA tournament. they'll be in all the games no doubt, but come tournament time, you need to finish and i don't know if snc has shown that ability this year?

To answer your question, I'll highlight the key word in it. When you start questioning their goal scoring they seem to break out. Just when you think they are ready to roll they struggle scoring goals.

Thanks Dan. I'll assume CSS wins to make this kick in. Based on this, they only need two points and they win the tiebreaker. A win and a tie would give them more NCHA victories. If they tie both, the 2nd tiebreak would kick in and SNC is +1 over CSS in their 3 games.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Congrats to SNC on another NCHA regular season title, and props to Coach Coghlin for letting senior goaltender and first year varsity member Billy Szkodinsky get a few minutes of playing time at the end of the game. That's probably something he'll never forget...

Based on the shots on goal and limited web cast viewing, looks like SNC came out focused. 46-15 shots?! Mysteriously, the Stout thread hasn't been bumped since the game so I'm not quite sure what their spin on it is, but it looks like they've got a few minor tweaks to make before they return back to Lake Placid next month .

What are you talking about? Stout is going to make it to Lake Placid because "they are Stout." :p

Seriously, congrats to SNC on winning the NCHA again. A great effort last night to absolutely dominate in every part of the game!!!

On another note, it is playoff time. Do you think that some of the oldster's in the crowd could make some noise or move a bit. Even a grunt might be nice, just to show that you are breathing! Seriously, last night was the worst SNC crowd (students and oldster's) in years as far as any enthusiasm. If you can't act like it is a hockey game, please give up your seats for the playoffs to someone who understands that it is a hockey game, not a community play.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I will tune in tonight to watch the boxing match between Knights and Falcons, I mean hockey game. Seriously the Knights are the better team but it was pretty exciting to see the hate / fierce competetion come out between these two teams last serious. RF is so young you never know what team will show up but youi can usually count on them to never stop coming at you. I doubt if anyone will get ejected for fighting since the player/s would lose a a playoff game, not worth it , or you never know.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

TBB - I talked to some Stout parents last night and they asked what was wrong with the crowd and if it was like that all year. They said that a few years ago it was a wild place to play. Hope we could get some of that back to give the boys a ture home ice advantage. When you go to Stout, Point etc. it is great to see how the students get into the game. This is college life go, to the game and have some fun.
