SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

Brandon set a new single season wins record and a new career wins record for UWEC. To my thinking, giving him the player of the year is deserving. This does not take anything away from Jacobson, it recognizes a very good body of work by Brandon Stephenson.
I have no problem with this selection. His play helped the Blugolds attain the regular NCHA season title. He stopped 103 of 109 shot attempts in the three games with SNC.
Time is now for SNC to step up and earn the final Peters Cup Crown.

I am taking nothing away from the season Brandon had but stats are the most important criteria for voting. I just don't think he is the conference MVP...my opinion. He led in wins and winning percentage. DJ led in save percentage (splitting hairs, I know), GAA and games played.
Just check out the stats on the link below...

Good luck to all in the playoffs!

You are missing the most important stat Stephenson is 2-0-1 against the team that has dominanted the NCHA for the last 15 years.

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

I respect the decision. Stephenson had career best numbers, and EC had a fantastic year. They usually go hand in hand.
His performances against us, especially the shutout, certainly helped his case.
The problem for David is that he set the bar too high last year with all his accolades :) Now it's just expected of him.
Personally, I'll be much happier if Jake just gets MVP of the NCAA finals again this year rather than any conference awards.:D:D

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

I also have no problem with this selection. Eau Claire is having their best season ever. Jacobson had a fine season, but like has been mentioned the bar has been set pretty high with SNC.

Additionally, with the big point spread between second and third place in NCHA league play this season it's very likely SNC would have still finished in second place had Bosch or Martin played all of the NCHA minutes. I don't know if you can say Eau Claire would have finished first without Stephenson.

I certainly respect the job that Stephenson did so good for him. He played very well vs SNC and just about everyone else game after game.
For Jake, he's within a tenth of a point in his GAA was after LP last year so he's right in line with last season for the most part. So yeah, I guess it's just an average season for him...ha ha. I completely agree that him and all the guys are much more concerned with the big picture then these awards.
I sure hope we all get to see a prosperous post season!

Explain why this is Bald's fault.
talkin to past and current players students are not allowed to enjoy themselves. Look at the first game of the season. Great student base great participation. Where have they been since. No signs allowed, no degratory chants about the the opposing team (I don't mean obscene) And you can not come dressed up. What a great way for a college student to spend a Friday or Saturday night. They mentioned the rowdy crowd from Ripon at the basketball game, not rowdy just students being students. SNC students can come to the game pay your five bucks and be told to sit on your hands. That's another thing, why do the students have to pay to get in. I realize it is an of site facility but so are most of the other facilities that SNC plays in out of town. Go to their games and there is a student line to show your I'd to get in. So SNC SID my baseless claims are from talking to current and former players on why their fellow students don't attend the game. Until I hear differently I will stand by my statement. I would expect you to support you fellow employee.

As an SNC alum, I hope you type better on your papers than you do here. "Degratory"? " Great student base great participation"? Ever hear of a comma?

And, oh, the horror of not being able to insult someone! Even with the 'restrictions' you note, there were no "let's go Knights" cheers from the students. I sat one section over and didn't hear them participating in "hey hey, what do you say, Let's Go Knights" during Rock n' Roll part 2 after goals... which may be a lame cheer but noise nonetheless. No updated version of "Free Cote." Do students have to check their voice boxes at the door, too?

That said, in my 20+ years of going to SNC sporting events, I can honestly say it's never been a major focus of the student body. But your 'reasons' sound more like sad excuses.

edit: Sorry, that was a bit harsh. Yes, I know it's just a chat board. But I think motivated students could cheer and certainly do more than they do.

It's easy for you to sit behind an alias and take shots at people when you don't have to be accountable for what you say, especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

I can tell you that I made a personal effort about 3-4 years ago to loosen, if you will, any restrictions on the student section. I was successful in that effort except for the part about students pounding on the glass, which is nothing anyone would have issue with. The previous two years the student sections have been good. This year not so much, and it has nothing to do with the athletics director. This is, currently, a particular group of students that is mostly apathetic to all sports - not just hockey. We also don't have a large student body like the WIAC schools. I'm sure our student section is comparable to CSS and the MCHA on most any given night. The first game of this season was free for students because of the banner raising. Additionally, the first 240 students who want a ticket to Saturday's game can get a free one - and this is being debated whether to continue for next year. So it is being discussed and looked at. We aren't just a bunch of dummies over here.

If you have a problem with anything then take a meeting with the AD or even myself and maybe you'll learn something. The bottom line is though that you can't make people care. Just because you or I like something doesn't mean someone else does.

Question on above - What is being debated the offering of any "free" student tickets or the limit of 240?

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

From my observations, it is apparent that the WIAC school student bodies support their athletic teams to a much greater degree than SNC students have ever supported SNC teams.
Granted, the numbers favor the WIAC schools, but the general SNC student support level is very poor. Not a big part of the student experience on campus, I guess.
It is pretty much an adult crowd at the CCC and they do not make much noise to say the least.
I have wondered what it would be like at the CCC with the pep band and student/adult support that the Pointers receive at the Willett Arena.
Two of the biggest crowds that SNC has played in front of this season were at the Willett.
Wishful thinking, but not reality!!

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

I thank you for making that effort to loosen up the restrictions. Also I didn't know the students got in free to that first game. But you must agree that the first game showed that they will come and they did participate in a respectful manner and that is all our players are looking for. I hope the students take advantage of the ticket situation and rock the CCC saturday night. I understand that the WIAC schools have more students but as was seen at the Ripon basketball game it does not take many to make some noise and support the team. Thanks for you efforts.

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

As I pointed out on Twitter Friday night, EVERYONE should be able to pitch in and make some noise - not just students. Barely anyone clapping during the Bud Song on Friday was embarrassing. It takes no effort to clap, and the Bud Song is the measure I use to gauge the crowd's participation level.

I was not there this weekend but I must agree the adults are sitting on their hands too. We need BJ's mother back.

Re: SNC 2012-13 Regular Season Thread

I'd love to see more support but I've given up on complaining about it. I'm too busy helping the officials with icing calls and giving the 2 referees feedback on penalty calls to worry about specific cheers.

Here are a few solutions to think about:
1.) Invest in a new sound system, CCC system is absolutely terrible
2.) Obtain a liquor license like the Hobbs has in Eau Claire during their games.
3.) Updated the music selection
4.) Create theme nights for students (Whiteout, Provide thundersticks, Unique costume themes, ect.)
5.) The ultimate would be to build a rink on campus; it would definitely change the atmosphere inside the rink and gain more attendance of students. Obviously this a far-fetched idea right now but down the road, if or when it happens I think I would really benefit the program from a student’s perspective as well as a player.

All good discussion points, many of them (plus more) discussed by a group of SNC fans in recent years (as recent as this past off season).
For a number of reasons, nothing much came about from this effort.
