SNC 2010-11 Regular Season Thread

Re: SNC 2010-11 Regular Season Thread

The "Celebrate With the Green Knights" event to honor St. Norbert College's national championship hockey team is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Schuldes Sports Center on the St. Norbert campus. All St. Norbert coaches, staff and players will be at the program, which is free and open to the public.

The Green Knights won the 2011 NCAA Division III ice hockey championship with a 4-3 win over Adrian College on Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. St. Norbert finished its second national championship season at 25-4-1.

An update - it's now an 8pm event.

Re: SNC 2010-11 Regular Season Thread

I was just reading the SNC 09 offseason thread. There was debate in there about giving o'brien another chance or bringing in a new goalie. It seemed to be slanted toward bringing in a new goalie. I'm glad Coach makes the decisions and not us. haha

Re: SNC 2010-11 Regular Season Thread

That is awesome. Pulak sure filled the bill for the 2 way centerman I was hoping for.
The kid could not have done much more during his four years.
Game winning goals in the 2008 ntl championship and the 2011 semi final games.
Plus, he was one of the more consistent players during his entire career at SNC.
Plus Tabisz gets the game winner in the 2011 ntl championship game.

Re: SNC 2010-11 Regular Season Thread

Certainly can't argue against Coghlin winning it...

However, I must say I'm surprised it didn't go to Fogarty with the job he did in four years and getting Adrian to the title game this year. I don't think too many people gave them a chance in hell of winning either of the two tournament games they ended up winning and they darn near pulled the whole trifecta.

Well if you look at this release: http://www.ahcahockey.com/news/1011/0331d3cy.html it appears that Fogarty wasn't even in the running. Gosek was the runner-up.

Seven of the last eight winners have won the national title. The one that didn't got it because you couldn't really give it to Beaney every year.

I realize it's normally an automatic just to give it to the national champion coach but Adrian I felt like might trump that this year given the circumstances of what they accomplished this year and the last three years.

Norwich's womens coach won it last year for making the NCAA finals.

Fogarty wasn't even the coach of the year in his own league. http://www.mchahockey.com/ Then again neither was Coghlin, but he can't get it every year there either.

When do they vote?

Baseball awards are voted at the end of the regular season, for example, so playoff performance has no impact depsite the timing of the announcements.

If they voted then, SNC was ranked #1, etc... Not sure, just saying it could be a factor.

Based on the fact that the national coach of the year almost always goes to the coach of the national champion, one could resonable assume the voting takes place after the NCAA Tournament.

It's true some of us weren't sold. His numbers actually weren't terrible in 08-09. I think there were three things at work. 1) Kyle Jones had set the bar so high it was ridiculous to expect anyone to come in and match that immediately. 2) BJ played only a handful of game minutes in 2 years at St. Cloud so I just think he was getting back into his groove. 3) Some of the goals given up just seemed to be late and at the worst possible time. When you figure they had a very experienced D core in front of him it was frustrating that season. Obviously BJ hung in there and he was terrific for his last two seasons. I know the coaching staff raved about what they had seen when they were trying to recruit him initially so everyone involved did a terrific job bringing that out in him.

More consistent playing time may have been a factor, but how much of b.j's improvement can be the work of Coach Mazz.?

Good coaching is certainly important but the player has to buy into the coaching. BJ has been outstanding. I am sure that his success has been a combination of many factors. Could not happen to a better young man!
