SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I see Adam quoted me -- and without a credit. {sigh}.

Unless Herb Brooks walks through the door, I fear we're in for a few long seasons.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Dan Cassavaugh is reporting on his blog,
"The St. Lawrence University documentary "The Saints are Coming," originally scheduled to premiere April 23 has been delayed until May 3.

Produced and directed by SLU sophomore Jeff Chudzinski, the documentary follows the men's hockey team throughout the 2010-11 season. The first showing will be at 7 p.m. in the Winston Room on the St. Lawrence University campus."

Dan or others, does anyone know if this documentry will be released in someway on the internet?

Boy.......you go away for a few days and all sorts of stuff happens. I too echo the comments about Roll getting the axe at Clarkson. Bad move. Although Clarkson has more resources than we do devoted to their program, it becomes harder and harder each year to get prime recruits to come to a Clarkson or SLU. The landscape is very different now and one only need look at a school like Q Pac and the resources it devotes to hockey to see how changed things are. Q gets a million dollars or more just to re-name their arena and we lose recruiting battles to them over players who are realistically not even the top D 1 recruits so that tells you what chance we or Clarkson has of landing a real blue chip prospect. Realistically our programs hinge on finding "hidden" talent and putting together a blend of players who can function as a whole better than each individual part.

Was not surprised Leaman left Union but I was surprised it was for Providence. I think he has a tough row to hoe there competing against the likes of BC, BU and UNH. Union wasted no time in naming his replacement.

Happy Easter to everyone!!!! Although the calendar says it's spring I sure wish it would get here. The rain and cold are getting a bit tiresome. Of course the rain is better than the snow some of you are getting.

Spaceman,

The short answer is maybe. From what I know, Jeff is showing it on campus first on May 3. Then, he will likely submit it to film festivals and see what happens there. Lastly, he was getting help from (mentored by) a cable television network with editing, audio and overall quality. I'm not sure the absolute latest details on the TV thing, and I still plan on attending the premiere on May 3, so I'll ask more then about the future of the documentary then.

Worried about Joe? ;). Seriously, though, he is a class act and great coach. I'm sure he must have turned down offers in the past, hasn't he? I'm assuming he loves it just where he is.

I think he was offered the job at Harvard when they hired Mazzoleni or Donato. Realistically, Joe would never leave SLU. He is loyal to the area and has made his home there. Maybe if Umile left UNH...MAYBE, but I doubt it. I think he will probably go three more years and then hand the reins.

I am stunned that Leaman would leave Union for that place and the morgue known as Schneider. They were good 20 years ago, but not even a sniff since then. Sounds like he has a relationship with the AD that enticed him. But, seriously, I think that is a step down. On the bright side, PC does not have very tough admission standards so that will be a nice change from Union. Speaking of which, the rumor about Rick Bennett at Providence was he was prop 48 ineligible for not getting 700 on his SAT's. Don't know if it is true, but he was not applying for Rhodes scholarships.

I am surprised about Gadowsky too. I thought the PSU job would go to someone with a very high profile. Gadowsky is good, but I thought it would be someone like Schafer or someone that has already won a lot at the D-1 level. They will be a dominant team very quickly. Still worry about who the steal to coach at Clarkson and now the Princeton job is open and BP did coach there...I just hope he stays in Canton. I think we can get top recruits and the differentiator for us is our coaching staff. Top to bottom, class, talent and integrity.

Can he still live in Canton if he works in Potsdam?? :D

I know, never happen. But what worries me is the compensation package given by Western Michigan to Blashill. $175K base + $100 media + $100K bonus if he meets academic targets. Not many ECAC schools can match that.

If I was interviewing for the Clarkson job, and they asked me about compensation, I say $150 to start, $175 after year 3, $100K bonus if I meet academic targets, and $25K if we make it to AC, $25K for making the NCAA tournament, $50K for the Frozen Four, and $100K for winning it all.

So I could make $450K if I hit all the targets. Nice incentives and the base is small enough for a school to afford it.

Well, at what point during that dream do you wake up. I'd be stunned if Roll was making over $150K all in. I don't even think Parker is making that kind of money. Problem #1 is finding someone that can win more than Roll. Problem #2 is dealing with the reality that they probably pay less than some of the assistants out there.

Except WMU has set a standard, and WMU is not as good as our two schools. If it was one of the big boys, I'd blow it off, but this is a mid major school, just like us. Sure the bonus pots are too much, but $150 + $100 is doable.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Very nice article about SLU Alum Simon Watson who continues to excel both on and off the ice.

Wats was one of the nicest best kids ever to wear a Saint uniform. I still remember what Chris Wells said it felt like to have to sit him over certain other kids!! He is a kid that is total class and always has been. Congrats to him (and his wife) on the award.

College graduate. Feels super good, but this now means I won't be around the "Southeast ECAC" to see many games. I've accepted a job offer in Houston that I will be starting June 2nd, and will be moving down there. I'll still make it to a handful of games a year hopefully, but we'll see how it works out.

Congratulations Brandon! That went by quickly...maybe not for you, but for me!! Houston is actually a good place. Tons of good restaurants and food and, for now, Bags plays there! Congrats also on getting a job...not all college grads can say this. Keep us posted.

Congratulations - that's great news all around (except for the part about not seeing you at as many SLU games next year). You've got a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to. Hope you enjoy Houston and the new job. See you at Appleton at some point!

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I was pretty down on the Bruins after Game 2 of the Canadiens series, but they've been impressive ever since. As long as the TB series is a good one, this has been a good year. I said when they traded Wheeler that I thought it would be worth it if they made the conference finals. Here they are, and Rich Peverley has been excellent in the playoffs. He hasn't been scoring goals, but he's been doing absolutely everything else, and he's had some great chances the last two games. I think he'll bury a couple against the Lightning.
