Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Last year, I thought Max did a great job covering SLU for the WDT. And he did. But . . . this year's coverage by Dan is SPECTACULAR. Who woulda ever thought we'd get replays of game-winners, not to mention interviews with players? Please email this dude so that his editor knows that his efforts are appreciated. I'm far away, but his stuff makes me feel part of the whole thing.
Thank you, Dan!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I missed the game, and just now saw the box score. I'm impressed. I was hoping for a split this weekend, but so far this team looks to be playing better than anyone could have expected them to. Mike McKenzie looks to be playing like a great senior leader, and Flanagan sure hit the ground running.

I'm sure there will be some rough patches this year, but it's also true that as they play more together they should improve overall. Nice weekend.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I told you guys Flanagan was good. If that line is finding some chemistry, that is a very good thing!!! Flanagan has skills and abilities that I don't even think you can teach. He is a great passer, sees the ice well, has courage and can shoot. We all know what McKenzie brings to the table and Jeremiah has wheels and now has the college experience that frankly guys need I think coming straight from prep to D-1.

As for the defense, Hughes and Child looked very good last weekend. Torney had a couple mistakes against Lowell. Keller did not look great against Keller but rebounded extremely well against Army where he was really good. Ditto for Caister although I would say he was more steady against Lowell. Dewey needs a bit more work, but I think will be just fine. He skates well, handles the puck well. Just needs a bit more 'training'. I believe that if Stratford had been cleared to play yet, he would definitely be in over a number of these guys. He is a tough kid. In fact, I think he injured Carden during a contact drill!

Drewiske has been playing great so far. I want that kid healthy. Well, I want all of them healthy!

What a great comeback win. We can't let ourselves get into the hole like that, but love the response. Great goal by Cunningham with a great feed from behind the net by Flanagan. Then little flanny just snaps one off from the top of the circles 1 on 4 and beats the goalie cleanly. That is an exciting way to win.

Moss looked really good against RIT. No doubt, that is why he got the start again against Niagara. I do expect that to be a tough decision if all three guys continue to play the way they have so far.

Four games in, and I am a lot happier with the defense than I thought I would be. We are actually doing pretty well in our own zone for the most part. There have been shifts where we get hemmed in, but still considering what we lost, that is huge. The forward lines, well, I hope it was only a matter of time and they start to find some chemistry. Vermuelen was huge on Friday and that whole line last night. We can find some offense if we look for rebounds and crash the net. If we wait for the highlight goal, we will struggle but a few dirty ones.

Great resilience shown this weekend. Those are the types of wins we will need this year. Congrats to all the guys for gutting them out.

Nice job on the comeback win!

I was hoping we wouldn't have to worry about you come November 7th, but I guess that theory is shot to hell now. :p

It seems like we're both off to better starts then anyone thought. Here's hoping it continues for both programs.

Muskie u are so right, the column will hopefully turn others onto SLU hockey Tupsaint aka Allen

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

did you guys see the second goal or maybe the third that flanny started. he got hit was on the ice on one knee, the puck still glued to his stick and, then he deaked around one guy and gave it to mike to score, he is just ridiculously skilled.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Bump back to the front page: No talk yet of tonights game? It sounds like Alex will be back between the pipes after his flu bout last weekend, although Joe said that decision could be made as late as this morning. Wish I could make it to one of the Clarkson games this season, but I can't justify going home for one game (third weekend in a row if I were to drive back as well), and I have prior commitments for the ECAC series in December.

Any of you guys on here purchase the B2 feed already? Whats the quality looking like this year compared to years past?

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Ah, yes--B2. I watched the Niagara game on B2, and if anything it was worse than last year--until I disconnected & then reconnected with Windows Media Player. Then it was better, although still not perfect, since it was in stop mode when Flanagan scored! Thank goodness for Dan & his video replay!
However, there is no alternative, and at least this year Greg & Wally are synced with the B2cast. My advice: pay for one game at a time until you're certain that it's worth it. Luckily for tonite we can get the Clarkscum (sp?)cast, and that is ALWAYS better.

The actual video is about the same as last year but they are putting the clock right in the upper right corner and as a result it blocks a quarter of the ice. The feed itself is stable and the cameras follow the play pretty well and the audio is okay, but where they keep placing the clock you miss a third of the game. I bought the season pass (it is $75 this year).

Tonight should be interesting. It is a big one. The games so far this season have been lacking a certain element of excitement but if you can't get up for Clarkson then there is really something wrong. Hope we have a healthy lineup and that Stratford is eligible to play so he can crush some Knights!:D

I didn't see the RIT game, but the Niagara game was way too exciting for me!

I purchased the Seasons pass on B-2. I watched some of the Women's game today as well as most of tonights game. I think the Clarkson guys do a pretty decent job and seem to have a bit more stuff going on with their broadcast. I can never make up my mind whether to watch it full screen or regular. To me the picture is OK but it was awful light.

As to the game it was a tough one and I assume a step up in talent from most of our previous games. I thought Clarkson looked better and a step quicker than we did tonight. We have two more games of experimenting before the Q Pac/Princeton ECAC opener. I guess my first chance to see the team in person will be Q Pac. Looking forward to it.
