Well, tonight reiterates what we've all known since March: This team isn't going to dominate many teams, and they need to capitalize on most of their chances. That being said, overall it wasn't as bad as the shots say. A lot of RIT's shots were hitting the chest logo, or were seen the entire way by Moss. It reminded me a lot of the Trevelyan/Zeiler days, where we would average 35 shots, but only get 5 scoring chances.
Moss looked really good after the 1st, where he gave up some juicy rebounds that weren't taken advantage of by RIT. The defense did a good job of clearing them out and averting any disasters. I thought Hughes and Child both looked good out there, but really wasn't too impressed by Torney/Raley tonight. There was a shift in the 3rd where Raley looked like a fish in the defensive zone, spending more time flopping around on the ground trying to block shots than standing up and playing his position. Nothing came of it, but it led to some nervousness for me.
Flanagan looked good tonight, made some nice plays and had some opportunities. Armstrong looked good, threw his body around a lot and caused havoc against RIT, we'll need more of that. McKenzie almost got on the board before his penalty, as Cunningham passed it to the top of the crease behind the goalie, but Mike pushed it back across the net wide. Not a play he misses often, I'm sure, and might have led to a frustration penalty just after that.
Tonight was a good, tight game against RIT, and a good chance to have to play well at the end to preserve a lead. I would say we were outplayed, but not 43-20. I would expect another tight game tomorrow night against Niagara, as they lost in OT to our Route 11 counterparts.
