Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Nice win tonight! Very impressed with this team's resiliency. Hopefully the injury isn't too bad.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Any word on what the injury is? How did it happen? I missed the first 30 minutes of the game. The injuries are getting old....Pete has been having a great season. I look at Flanny and some of the other injuries, and I don't think the refs are protecting players. I guess we will see Dyer, Torney or Stratford tomorrow? My money is on Torney. What a mess of injuries...my God!!

I missed the first 2 periods. All I know is that it happened in the 2nd, was a knee injury, and he couldn't put any pressure on his right leg. Injuries really suck and are the one thing about sports that I really hate.

Re Child...

Happened in the corner right in front of the student section. The puck went into the corner and Pete went in to negate a Brown player and in the process went to the ice with him. As the puck went up ice they got up. I followed the puck but could hear him scream in pain. My best guess is that he got slashed to the back of the right knee by the guy he was tied up with.

The refs tonight were consistently awful, with Ritchie smiling and nodding his head as the students booed him to begin the 3rd period. The penalty on Drewiskie for goalie interference was a joke since he clearly got checked from behind into Rosen, who added a little flair of his own.

A positive note is that the PK has been 14/14 the past 3 games and Tisi stood on his head in the 2nd period with a great set of saves midway through when the game was still close.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Brandon,

Thanks. It may take a while as it did with Chris, but you will find work. Your SLU degree will serve you well.

Be honest - did any of us really think that we'd be tied for 4th in the league at 6-3-2, and 12-8-4 overall at this point? With the mounting injuries, Yale tomorrow, and then a very tough 4-game road trip thereafter, who knows where we'll be in a few weeks.

Small correction, I won't have a SLU degree, but will have a degree from a well known school in the industry (although, there are only 7...).

If I would have been told SLU would be in 4th past the middle of January, I would have bet the farm against it. However, hot goaltending, along with scoring from your 2nd, 3rd, 4th lines will win you games. The defense has been a very pleasant surprise so far, hopefully Child won't be out of action too long and can bounce back in.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I was also following the play and did not see Child's injury. I did hear someone in the student section shout ' slew foot'. Curran was visibly upset with #17 from Brown after the play.

I have never been a fan of fighting in college hockey, but maybe if some of these cheap shot artists knew they would have to face Bollig the next shift they might play a cleaner game. I am just very frustrated with these needless injuries.

On a brighter note I am amazed at the resiliency of this team. 4 of our top 12 forwards were out for all or most of the Cornell game. Our depth has surprised me. They are a special group of players.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

A real nice win and a solid effort tonight from the boys. Brown battled back early but we kept on keeping on and eventually pulled away.

Are Drewiske and Carden starting to click or what??? On a couple of shifts McKenzie looked like he was doing a skating drill weaving around cones on the ice as he looked like a Whirling Dervish with the puck.

Looks like we should say a prayer for Child's injury and return. Joe's quote in the game recap didn't sound promising saying....... "it looks like he will be out for awhile". (Those are scary words to me). Hopefully it isn't as bad as it sounds.

We best have our wheels moving tomorrow night as although Ylae's score with our neighbors was close the SOG weren't. For those of you who haven't seen Ylae play they can fly and really pour on the offense.

Impressive victory for the ECAC tonight with Cornell squeaking by North Dakota.

As for the cheap shot artists, they will go away if obvious cheap shots into the boards or obvious slew footing results in a 7 minute major, a game DQ, and a minimum 3-4 game suspension. Sounds radical, but the cheap shots that go on MUST be fully eliminated.

Was quite disappointed with the recruiting last fall when we didn't bring in another defenseman. As always, the coaches proved me wrong because they had Pete Child already there and knew what he could do. I just hope that he and the other injured guys get healthy soon (the concussion to Jared Keller worries me the most).

The Team continues to amaze me. These guys must be real fun to coach; I know that they are fun to watch.

If it indeed was a cheapshot, I hope they got it on tape. The league has to do something about this...Child is not a dirty player so this is unilateral d-bagism!

I don't know how far back Stratford is, but I would certainly consider playing a guy like that against Brown. He is tough and will put guys through the boards.

McKenzie had some shifts that looked like a man among boys. When he does what he does best, he is impressive. He absolutely embarrassed Brown's D.

Jared Keller's injury worries me too. I saw it. Cheap shot inteference head down hit. He is a really important player in the lineup because his play at both ends of the ice. The refs caught that one, but it was only a 2-minute minor against Maine....late in the 3rd with a 10-1 win!

The way Drewiske and Carden can skate it was only a matter of time. Carden has really impressed me many games this year. He has some solid skills. He was a big scorer in junior...bigger than Bollig. I am just happy to see a couple of hard workers start to get some points. Carden was in the dog house early in the season and seems to have really changed his attitude about working hard and team play. Nothing pleases me more than seeing guys come into their own. Both of Drewiske's goals were great goals. Loved the no-look backhand....and the look of "we just lost the game" on Rosen's face!

Let's hope Child is back soon. He has been a key ingredient on the blue-line. The guys we can't afford to lose are D. Keller, Caister, Hughes and Child.

Dan C. said in WDT that he was on crutches last night.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Child is probably done for the year. He was on crutches with a knee brace. Haven't seen him yet today.
Derek Keller told me Jared had an MRI last week and they're not sure exactly what's going on. He continues to have headaches since the Main game. This is the first time he's had concussion-related issues.
Flanny said he'll be back this season. He was never on crutches and appears to have sprained his knee instead of torn an MCL. That is very good news.
Marsh was pretty distraught about the Child injury last night after the game.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

SWEEEEEP. Awesome result for the 4 game homestand, taking 7 of 8 points. We are now in a 3way tie for 2nd with Yale and Cornell, heading down to CNY next weekend. Perfect on the PK this weekend, although the PP didn't do as much as we would like. Also, while it appears we lost Child for some period of time, you can look at today's result as a glimmer of hope.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Tisi kicks out 40, D. Keller scores late, and SLU defeats #6-ranked Yale 4-2 today. SLU went up 3-0, Yale battled back to make it 3-2 early in the third period, but SLU prevails by scoring twice in the last 9 minutes. Saints 5-5 on the PK today. Verms with a 6 point weekend, with 2 G and 2A today.

This is amazing. SLU is now in a 3-way tie for 2nd place with Cornell and Yale, after a great homestand.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Great game....horrible officiating...

First things first, Travis V. was the best player on the ice today, his first assist on the one timer by Raley was a thing of beauty. He walked out of the corner and heard/saw Raley wide open on the far side, then gift wraps it to Raley.
2nd goal, a battle along the boards, Travis skates in, scoops up the loose puck and buries a backhander from the slot. He's a sleeper when on the ice, you don't see him and then WHAM he pounces on loose pucks.
Tisi saved our bacon today, he was solid throughout.
D.Murphy should be officiating intramural floor hockey at a community college somewhere. He stood there and watches "hugging. mugging, etc", then decides to call ticky tacky garbage. To say he's awful would be an understatement.
Great game to watch for obvious reasons. Yale looked strong especially in the 2nd and I can see why they are ranked.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Hi all,

You 'gotta check out the video on "Saints to the Max" where Derek Keller talks about his breakaway goal to seal it late. I haven't laughed this hard in weeks and can barely type this because I'm still laughing. It is a classic.:D

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I can see why Joe was distraught about Child. The kid has been incredible all season. He already lost one entire season to injury, and then this. I feel so bad for him. Plus, torn anything in the knee isn't exactly a slam dunk to come back from. Surgery has improved, but it really stinks for a kid that had it going this season.

That is terrible about Jared Keller. It was a major cheap shot from the Maine player. Keller didn't even have the puck. Two Saint alums have had to hang them up due to concussion issues...Max Taylor and Charlie Giffin. I don't care if refs call nothing else....they have to start calling guys who go for guys melons.

Agree with you Saints17...not just the officiating which was all systems normal for the ECAC, but the linesmen were atrocious. They missed multiple icings and offisides that were not even close. Just watching the end of the Q-Pac-Niagara game and the commentators are beating on the refs for being awful there too.

Anyway, got to give it up to this team. They are missing some great players in Flanny, Child, J. Keller and showed a ton of guts. Vermuelen is incredible. What a hard worker. D. Keller's goal....man can that kid skate. He took off like a shot and just blew down the ice. That goal was so big as we ended the game with a 6-3 PK....yikes!!

Congrats to the entire team. Great team effort. As a fan, you can't ask for more than what we are getting right now. I just hope they keep it going. They have some tough games ahead...but I am really proud of the effort of the guys especially given the extent of the injuries on the team. Also, great to see Stratford playing. He had a couple of 'uh-oh' moments but looked decent at other times. We need kids like that to get some playing time for depth. Dewey sure has come a long way in the last two months. Good to see the Freshmen getting going!!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Child and the team are still awaiting the results of the MRI. It is a knee injury, and he'll be out X amount of time, just not sure how long yet.
