Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

I just hope the Gopher coaches can keep them focused on this weekends games and not take these cellar dwelling Sue too lightly, with next weekend being a real test at Becky.

I'm surprised they are even playing these games at all. I would have figured that Lucia would have sent Hakstol an option to just give the Gophers the four points, and in return Minnesota would spare North Dakota the embarrassment they would surely face if they decided to play the games. It's only Monday though, perhaps Lucia gave Hakstol until Thursday to make the decision. :p:D:D

You might be right. They could just be on auto cruising through and looking to the biggest series of the year when Tech comes to town in December.

and for some reason they ignore sweeps in duluth and alaska- which ill go out on a limb and predict MN is the only team that will sweep in both cities this year)
You won't have to go out very far. I'd bet there aren't more than 4-5 teams that will even play series in both Anchorage and Duluth this year.

Correct.

These schools will play series @UAA and @UMD
Minnesota
Michigan Tech
North Dakota
Bemidji State (has already lost @UMD)
Minnesota State

I would probably wager that Minnesota will be the only school to sweep both series @UAA and @UMD.

I'll put my money on UMD to sweep a series in both Duluth and Anchorage this season.

I don't think intra-squad scrimmages count in this scenario.

EDIT:

Additionally, Duluth is 11-11-6 at Anchorage since '93-'94 when the Seawolves joined the WCHA. That isn't exactly a record that inspires confidence in a sweep (something UMD hasn't done at UAA since 1996).

You beat me to it. But I was going to say that a drought of 3 years is bad by our standards but the fact your rivals expect you to be in the top ~30% of teams is at least a little flattering.

All that is true, and Minnesota has a storied history to be proud of, but not a lot of programs have gone through that kind of a drought with rosters loaded with NHL draft picks.

The past few years have really sucked. Whats worse is the demise of the WCHA and the best hockey rivalry ever. I'd rather go thru the occasional drought and keep the conference in tact than the looming changes..

There is no i in team. There is however an i in ice cream which is off the subject but just on my mind at the moment.

As much as it pains me to admit, we will not always be great. Even loaded with NHL picks does not guarantee the success of any team due to the chemistry. Plus just because you are an NHL pick doesn't mean you are that great. You could toil around in the AHL or lower for your entire career or worse.

The Gophers were slow to adapt to the changing college hockey landscape, and had leadership issues on and off the ice.

True. I think it's probably true that older fans are a little more tolerant of down times and a little less obsessed with hardware. You can never predict the banner years, and the down years will come along, but this is a wonderful game, and if your program is a strong one (and Minnesota and Nodak certainly qualify), you will be privileged to watch a lot of good hockey over the years.

That said, I'd clean toilets for a living before I'd be a gopher fan. I'd probably allow one into my house, but he would sit at the kids' table for dinner.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

That's only true when your team has the lower ranking. The Sue can start throwing out that line all they want now because they will all try to convince us of that. For us, it looks about right except for the voters are slow to realize we should be even higher. Give it time.

You didn't get the memo, NCAA championships are won in October and November... :)
.

:)
Didn't see the negative sign in front. Why would you put that there in the first place?

Plus, the way you always said it is "my age plus 18 minus my age"

Gophers haven't played anyone yet. Sioux will sweep. Rocco gets 5 goals on the weekend and Rau gets knocked out of the game early because he breaks a nail. This better Gopher fans? :p

I really hope Rocco buries a few this weekend.
