Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

I expect these games will be similar to the Wisconsin games for the Sioux. The bigger ice will make the games a bit more wide open, but I suspect Minnesota's power play will probably prove to be the difference, as was the case in Wisconsin.

For those Minnesota fans desperately hoping for/expecting UND to come in and goon it up, I think they'll be disappointed. UND has not played very physical this year, in my opinion to their detriment. If there is any monkey business I suspect it will come as a result of a MN blowout.

I'm going to go with MN 6-2 and 5-4.

I'm impressed that all the Sue fans seem to be handling the start of their team's demise with a large degree of humility. Kudos for that. :D

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

I watched both SCSU at UND games this weekend. UND isn't as bad as their record indicates. They are a bit weaker defensively than I think most Sioux fans expected before the season, and lack the offensive depth that the Gophers have, but they do have some firepower. And the Gophers defense has been shaky at times. If the Gophers have any more of their patented undisciplined stretches, UND will take advantage. I'm predicting that the Gophers win on Friday 6-3, then lose on Saturday 4-5.

Demise, eh?

I do have to admit, I've missed the rambunctiousness of the gopher fans these past few seasons. Good to see that it's returned. :)

Just continue to field sub par teams and more will pour out of the woodwork as the bandwagon rolls along. :)

Is the Red rising again? Lots of sandbags being prepared in GF.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Ah...so the number 12 team in the country can't beat the number 8 team in the country. Let the sandbagging begin.

Again, I'll ask...have you watched both teams play this year?

The only reason North Dakota is ranked 12th in some polls is because of last year's team. Realistically, North Dakota is maybe in the range of 16-20, and Minnesota is a top-5 team at this point. While I don't necessarily agree with INCH most times, I do think they have ranked Minnesota (3rd) and North Dakota (17th) fairly accurately. Add to it that the series is at Mariucci, and I would say that Minnesota is the huge favorite. That is not to say that North Dakota cannot win. A split is definitely possible, but at this point in time, I would put percentages roughly as follows...

Minnesota 3-4 points: 60%
Split: 35%
North Dakota 3-4 points: 5%

You can call it sandbagging, but, at least for me, it is not true. I live in Colorado...I do not sandbag. :)

While I don't agree with how low Scooby would rank the Gophers at this point, I do agree with him that the team hasn't really been tested too much and most of the rankings I've seen have the Gophers too high. I think they are a Top 10 team, but anywhere from 6-8 and not Top 5 IMO. As for the Sioux, I have watched them play and they are hardly as bad as their record indicates. They lack scoring depth, but they do have some high-end offensive talent. Both teams have been inconsistent defensively.

I haven't watched the top 10 ranked teams enough to place the Gophs or the Sioux accurately.. This rivalry is always intense, even during the down years. Best College Hockey rivalry ever.

The thing that I have seen from watching both teams (albeit limited for Minnesota) is that the Gophers have been able to cash in on defensive miscues, while North Dakota has struggled. IMO, the only way North Dakota gets a win this weekend, is if Dell stands on his head (or Eidsness if he gets a start)and the Kristo-Nelson-Knight line produces big time. The Sioux have not taken a lot of penalties, so I don't think that will kill them, but we have made a lot of bonehead defensive plays. That will kill us this weekend.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

i know bbdl has a mathematical equation, and i would state the equation, but i'm afraid i'll not state it correctly. That being said, i hope the sue die 1000 deaths, i hope ron his horse farts thunder chokes on his own ego, and i hope to drink the tears of sioux fans after a sweep. I'd also wish for a flood, but we all know that is gonna happen anyway, so don't waste your wish on that.

LOL.

Someday someone will explain it to you and Harley. Until then I'm just going to sit back and smile.

If I'm missing something, let me know. I'm not trying to start an argument with you. I just don't understand why you would rank UMD ahead of us when we swept them at home?
