Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

Uh, it actually did make a difference. If Chief His Horse Farts Thunder's tribe voted to support the name, the name would have stayed.

You have problems with concepts, eh? Did you have any profs in school tell you the same thing? Sorry, I won't explain again how effing stupid it is to make that argument.

I bet Chief Very Brave Behind A Keyboard's grandma had male genitalia
oh wait, that was just his grandfather wearing pantyhose and high heels strutting for work on skid row

So there's something wrong that my grandfather was a cross-dresser? Do you have something against people that were born one gender but identify as another? Why are you hating on LGBTQ people? Tired of bashing Native Americans with your racist tripe?

Those were the conditions laid out by the NCAA. Put down the pipe, stop tossing dollar bills in the naughty bar, and pay attention.

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

Or Ralph E had a little more foresight in the whole naming issue and had put some good money into building things on the reservations that the assorted tribes could really use, like schools, hospitals, and other assorted things that would allow for long term jobs there.
Again, either the name is racist and derogatory, as a few claim, or it's not. If it isn't, there has been a ton of time and money wasted on nothing. If it is, then I believe it's even more racist and derogatory to suggest that if UND or Ralph Engelstad had just thrown a few dollars at the tribes, they would have happily let UND continue to use the "racist and derogatory" name.

If the NCAA was an organization of integrity, you’d be correct, but it isn’t.

A few Indians raised hell about racist names and the NCAA just wanted them to go away, it was distracting them from their true mission: to generate cash flow for university athletics and enrich those at the NCAA organization. An hour spent with Indians is an hour they could be filling bags with money.

But they had a problem, they couldn’t just ban Indian names because some big influential schools had them as well. Someone at the NCAA probably got a nice Christmas bonus for dreaming up that schools could keep their Indian mascot name if Indian tribes (hand picked by the NCAA ) would agree.

Problem solved.

At least for the NCAA, they can focus their attention on money, having pushed the problem onto others.

Disrespecting a tribal Chief is really classy and a true show of disrespect of his position and heritage.

Still trying to defend the racist fiasco that a white man named Thomas Franklin Kane instituted in the 30’s?

I'm disrespecting him because he (and the other elders) didn't offer a vote to the tribe, something which the tribe members wanted. That's not a leader, IMO.

And I'm of the position that if Sioux is racist, so is Seminoles, Aztecs, Illini, Fighting Irish, Utes, etc, etc, etc. Oh, wait, some of the schools with those names make too much money to be considered racist. My bad.

Finally, just in case you didn't know, I hate UND with the fiery passion of a million suns. Hate them more than the BADgers.

I visualize you personaly checked with all the Tribal Members and found that out.

As for Tribal business it is none of yours or mine’s business .If it was they would not be existing in the conditions they are in if it was up to me.

I actually read as much as I could on the subject, so that I may comment on it. It was such a touchy issue, I wanted to have all info I could, instead of wildly ranting on something. And from what I read, the tribe wanted to vote, Chief His Horse Farts Thunder decided, "[The elders] don't want this name, don't care what the tribe wants, so that's it." Terrible decision.

Now, IF that tribe did vote the Sioux name out, so be it. At least they had a say. But that dictator, I mean, tribal leader, denied them that vote. That's the problem I have with the whole thing.

What's done is done, though, and now UND has to move on.

Why does Brent have to respect him or his position?

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

As Rick Reilly wrote: Too late. White America has spoken. You aren't offended, so we'll be offended for you".

A meme that has been going around has stated a similar sentiment:

"Yawn...good morning America! What are we going to be offended by today?"

So getting away from the pointless, rehashed for the 152nd time, argument this thread has become. A protest was held today by UND fans who want the University to remain with no nickname and are angry over how this entire mess has been handled. As you can see from the picture in the article, due to weather the protest was not as well attended as organizers probably hoped. In fact the "No Nickname" Protest appears to have drawn more LARPers than "No Nickname" protesters. Hilarious.

Exactly. The tribe itself didn't get a say in the whole matter, and **** it, even if the tribe and the reservation is all legally a separate nation and all, but **** it, that's just downright unAmerican!

The tribe didn't get a say in the issue when Thomas Franklin Kane decided to change the mascot from flickertails.

But in your "white eyes" that was "all American”. Payback is a ***** ain’t it.

So, two wrongs make a right? D'ohkay.

what color are your eyes?
I'm betting bloodshot
booze, pot, and staying out too late in the gay clubs is my guess

You are attempting to insult someone by implying they are gay? If so, you should be embarrassed.
