Should College Hockey grow? Does it need change?

Re: Should College Hockey grow? Does it need change?

But a denial can contain assertions which rely upon credulous assumptions, such as, "Unlike other college sports, college hockey is and will remain immune to corruption."

No - it is the person, not the assumption, that would have to be credulous in that case. Just substitute the word "gullible" and you'll get it.

Do you have a reading disorder or are you mentally retarded? For the last time, no one is saying college hockey is immune to corruption. You have a credulous assumption that posters on this board think college hockey is immune to corruption.

Re: Should College Hockey grow? Does it need change?

He has a lot of credulous assumptions. He's *ahem* incredible. I love the bickering over semantics to overshadow the utter lack of credibility. As long as the semantics war continues, credibility will take a back burner.

As for the horse, I think it's long been time to call the SPCA.

Charming in its own way, a way that makes me shake my head and grin.

Did you hear about the pollyanna hockey fan who fell from the top of the Empire State Building? As he passed the 88th floor he was heard to say, "So far, so good."
How droll. Hope it makes you grin.

Yeah, that's a cute story. My personal favorite is Chicken Little.

Recipe for disaster*:

Assume if it hasn't happened yet (or very often) it won't become a problem.
Conclude in this area money and ambition will not corrupt anyone.
Conclude regulation and oversight have a low priority.
Label any negative indicators as inconsequential or demented.
Ignore preparation for a worst case event.

*taken from the B.P./Goldman Sachs playbook. Echoed by organizations facing disaster everywhere.

Yes, because a monetary collapse is on the same scale as amateur/professionalism issues in NCAA sports.

Do you even begin to think that a lot of us have STRONG ties to some of our programs? Now, I being down in Arlington, VA... I'm not going to pretend I'm close to the inner workings of the UML program... but if things were in need of an alarm we'd be seeing it in action and often ringing that bell. Especially in light of the current mold of sports writers... especially in college hockey. I'm willing to believe that if there was a problem brewing USCHO, INCH, and CHN would be the first to squawk about it.

History reveals that alumni "backers" are probably the most frequent corrupters of college athletic programs. It's good to hear that some alums are fighting back.

You know what, you're a delusional twit... thank god the boards give us that option to ignore you.

That only works if everybody ignores him. That or just flat out mocks him so much that he goes off somewhere else to **** and moan while he's wearing his little tin foil hat.

I'm thinking there hasn't been enough good trolls on the board lately.

Thanks, Bron. Lots of people claim to support free speech but far fewer support it in practice, particularly when it free speech contradicts their opinions. Fortunately, even fewer people resort to slurs and namecalling rather than facts and reasoning when they exercise free speech - but it does happen.

Free speech? You're seriously going there? Who has threatened to revoke any of your rights for the posts you've made?

When you stand up in a crowded theater and yell something that is completely unsupported by any facts, the crowd has just as much right to shout you down as you have to stand up in the first place.

Uh, check your logic, L.F. Civil disagreement and even even rude disagreement do not limit free speech, although namecalling doesn't add much to it. However, this thread hardly constitutes a crowded theater. Were you thinking of a fire? A mob shouting someone down constitutes censorship, which is certainly a denial of free speech. An individual shouting someone down is simply a moron, however.
Free speech is not subordinate to mob rule, or even majority rule.

why go there with it...

You have as much right to free speech as I have the right to ignore your free speech.

Sigh. It was a riff on the "yelling fire in a crowded theater" canard - work with me, here.

If 100 people are legally gathered in a public place, and 99 disagree with 1, they're all free to shout their opinions at the same time. Just because people don't listen when you want them to does not mean that your civil rights have been violated - it's not censorship in any way, shape, or form. If you choose to quit speaking (please, oh please) because you're tired of not being listened to, well, that's your choice, not a violation of your right to free speech.
