should christians......?

Re: should christians......?

And they have those pesky fans with Jesus on one side and the local funeral home ad on the other.

My mind jumped back years ago to the Richard Pryor routine about the black minister presiding at the funeral of one of his worshipers. In those days, Richard used a word (frequently) which he ultimately rejected. But the highlight of the routine was when he said (paraphrasing) "We are gathered here to see if anyone can pass the ultimate test. The ultimate test is--can you survive death. So far, nobody's passed that test, least of all this N-word here. And if you think we're gonna bury you with all them diamonds and sh*t you've got another think coming."

Wow. That is amazing. Thank you for posting it, I had never seen that performance.
She really flattened 'em, didn't she? Sadly, I'm thinking many younger people have never heard of her, let alone heard her. It's their loss. That performance at Newport is stunning. She was very ill and IIRC died within a year or so. There are several of her versions of "Just a closer walk" on You Tube, but that's the one that gives me chills. The Holy Spirit was truly in that lady.

Hadn't heard it either. Boggles the mind the number of artistic treasures this country has produced. The clip has me hooked into another youtube cycle of billy holiday.

For better or worse (I think, better) she's now VERY popular with hipsters, so the torch has been passed to another generation.

Music is wonderful in that it bypasses whatever particular language is being used to invoke spirit and directly hits the vein. Religious music in particular is incredibly powerful even if you don't understand the words or even the culture it comes from. Thanks again.

GASP! A gold mine, Barton on Fischer.

Watched the Youtubes. Barton is a very dishonest guy. He referenced Jesus in Luke as being against capital gains tax and butchered the reference as follows:

One guy is given 10 minas and makes 10...he's praised
One guy gets 10 and makes 5...he's praised
One guy gets 10 and sits on his money...he receives displeasure

Jesus' parable is about how if your given talents to make the world a better place, God looks favorably on those who use them for that. This should be evidence in that these are gifts to the three.

And Barton says its about how capital gains are against the bible. Dishonest. Oh and he's is retired vice chair of the Texas GOP.

I didn't realize she was popular with the younger crowd. That's a good thing.
