Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

bronconick

Yep, still here
Started around 10:30 local time.

One suspect "down", one policeman in the hospital from gunshot wounds. At least two people in hospitals. People still hiding and texting out that there's a hostage situation. Not sure if there are more shooters or not.

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

No hostage situation.

Gunman and six others are dead.

Original cop shot multiple times but expected to survive.

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

There is some spectacular coverage of this here:

There's a Sikh man they are interviewing in a blue turban that is simply one of the best interviewees I have ever seen in a situation like this. Very knowledgeable, calm, collected, informative, and willing to explain anything.

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

He was amazing, I agree. They also did an interview with the son of the temple president, who was apparently shot when he tried to confront and restrain the gunman. He was very, very calm and open despite not knowing his father's condition or location. The community is eager to get news out to family and friends, as well as educate and inform the public regarding their beliefs, especially that of peace and tolerance.

There was a visiting Sikh leader from India who is also rumored to be among the dead, but nothing has been released officially regarding casualties except for the officer and the gunman.

There is also a situation going on in Cudahy (another suburb) that is suspected to be related to the shooting, the police have entered a house down there and evacuated the neighbors.

That guy was amazing.

Let's "hope" (yeah, I know) this was just some random psychotic and not a herpa-derp who saw a turban and decided to save his nation from The "Muslins."

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

Well, the FBI is investigating it as "Domestic Terrorism" so I think your hope isn't going to last long.

The FBI investigating doesn't necessarily preclude it from being a single herpaderp.

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

WTMJ has shifted back to the Olympics coverage and put the live coverage of the shooting and the investigation on one of their digital channels (which our cable system doesn't carry). I'll probably be flipping back and forth to another channel depending on what they show tonight.

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

Wikis summary at this point:

Following emergency calls around 10:25 A.M., police responded to an incident at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. Upon arrival, they engaged and killed a single gunman, who had shot multiple individuals at the temple. Four people were killed inside the temple, and three people, including the suspected gunman, died outside the temple. Three adult males were transported to Froedtert Hospital, including one of the responding officers.[6] The deceased suspect was described as a white male in his 30s.[7][8]

The temple had been preparing for a meal that was scheduled to take place later in the day. Witnesses suggested that women and children would have been at the temple preparing for the meal. Children’s classes had been scheduled to begin at 11:30 A.M.[9] The eyewitnesses offered conflicting stories of the attack; several of them initially said that there was more than one gunman involved.[10] Bradley Wendtlandt, the police chief of nearby Greenfield, said that despite these reports, police "had not identified any other gunmen".[6] Temple officials reported seeing suspicious individuals in the days prior to the incident.[11]

The Joint Terrorism Task Force investigated the site, and police are treating the incident as an act of domestic terrorism.[12] The FBI took charge of the investigation.[13] Police evacuated neighbors of a suspect from the area of Packard and Holmes in Cudahy, a city in Milwaukee County, with the FBI and ATF on-scene.[14]

CNN: Gunman, six others dead at Wisconsin Sikh shooting

From the article: "Kaleka was not at the temple at the time of the shooting, but helped police interview witnesses in the aftermath. He said members described the attacker as a bald, white man, dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants and with a 9/11 tattoo on one arm -- which "implies to me that there's some level of hate crime there."

Lovely... :(

I'm still going with "single herpaderp," but that obviously won't stop some from trying to attempting to paint *insert group here* based on the actions of one nutcase.

In any event, the only silver lining in this story is that the scumbag's dead, and the cop who got him isn't.

In any event, it was curtains for him. Saved the taxpayers the cost of a trial. Glad the police did not try to reason with him.

Agreed.

It's always a good outcome to drop a murderer with a gun in his hand like a bad habit.

Just trying to make some sense of it all. These are the general characterisations I see for recent public mass shootings...am I missing something?

1. Racism/Bigotry - Apparently this case
2. 'Mad at the world' - Holmes (Batman shooter), school shootings/Columbine
3. Anti-government - Gifford, McVeigh

Re: Shooting at Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

Why is the killer ID'd as the " alleged shooter" by the news media?? He was killed with a gun in his hand.
