Her behaviour on the bench has been abhorrent. Virtually every game she is berating the officials including holding them on the ice between periods for extended rants. Last year she held a player on the ice between periods and loudly berated her play in front of the crowd. She is disrespectful of her players, the officials and the game. Despite having top talent from around the world they play a cheap, nasty game, particularly when they are losing. It is long past time she went. Her $215k a year can be spent to hire a decent coach with plenty left over to improve the program. I wish UMD well when she goes.

I agree 100%. Last year @ UW, Madison Packer bumped their sieve, who had came way out of the net and the sieve went down like a ton of bricks, clearly a flop. No penalty was called, though the sieve should have got one for the flop. Anyway, she was clearly F bombing constantly afterwards the rest of the period, she had a lengthy ref meetings after the play, at whistles and in between periods on ice, and was a bit better the next period, but that isn't saying much. Mark Johnson stood in front of the UW bench and watcher her with a disgusted look on his face before he went into the UW lockroom shaking his head. What a classless witch. She makes Bo Pelini look like a choir boy. The ref's should not have catered to her either. They should have had 1 meeting, that's it. Then hit her with an unsportsmanlike penalty when she didn't shut up.

One of the happiest bits against UMD was last years end of the season match. Kenyon took a penalty and Miller immediately went into screech mode and was given 2. the crowd at Ridder cheered harder than when they won the championship! Later Huertas got 10 and the gate for contact to the head (I think) and flew a double bird to the crowd as she went off the ice. The crowd went nuts & I thought Miller was going to have the little bird pp out of her forehead to mark the hour!
But generally the refs babied her and she benefited more than was punished for her behavior.

Why kick someone when they are down? You can say what you want about her but at least she had a plan and executed to it successfully. How many coaches can you say that about? She took a situation where she didn't get the top NDP kids from Minnesota and still kept the team at or near the the top year in year out. I don't know that I would personally like to spend time with her but I can still respect what she accomplished and how much she help push womens hockey forward. With some schools struggling to ever get off the bottom of weaker leagues, I would bet she will land soon and that players will follow.

There will be a lot less whining at Ridder arena next year and hopefully no invisible cord around Ludwig's neck jerking him to the bench! Based on just two games this year the Bemidji coach might be the leading candidate to replace Ms Miller as top whiner. Whining works? No, it was their goalie, again.

In his defense, there were some curious calls both ways in that Friday game versus BSU. You seldom see a player allowed to pick the puck up off the ice and throw it with no whistle blowing, for closing her hand on the puck if nothing else.

Agree. Even stoic Brad Frost was yelling at the refs over a couple of calls and non calls in that game. It wasn't until one of the Bemidji coaches started yelling that we figured out which one was the head coach. We were surprised at which one it was. It was a bizarre game. After what she did to Angela James years ago, I don't feel one bit sorry for her!! Good riddance! Here's hoping she gets out of hockey altogether. The game's better off without the likes of Shannon Miller!!

FYI I was kicking her when she was up last year and the facts are the facts. I'm not going to walk up to her and give her a sympathetic hug. I don't agree with the way she conducts herself and obviously I'm not alone. She'll land on her feet somewhere based on her history, hopefully in the wcha so I can continue to enjoy her presence. She did make that game memorable.

You can't get out of an NLI merely because of a coaching change. Unless they suddenly decided to take a gap year...or leave the country.

Sorry, I mis-spoke. someone else said it better than me later on that the school will typically let the students out of their NLI.

OK - I'll skip over the fact that she used her international connections to bring in top players from around the world. Thats not genius, thats just using the tools you have. But "kicking her when she is down"?!? The woman was a blight on just about every game I saw her team play (not just the ones against my favorite team). She repeatedly held officials on the ice between periods and after games howling at them. She did it to one of her own players last season in front of all the fans! I have never seen a professional coach behave so badly over so long a period of time and I was saying that when she won not just now. Then there is the style of play of he Bulldogs. They pay ugly despite having so much great talent on the ice. There are only two teams in the WCHA that seem to have this issue with cheap crap, dirty hockey and her team is the best at it. YEar after year, that can't be laid at the players when it it that consistent. I hope UMD does well in the future, I hope they win more national championships, I won't even mind if they beat my favorite team when they display the sort of sportsmanship and quality that a Minnesota, Wisconsin, BC, BU or Clarkson show game after game, year after year. I pity the league she lands in & will be happy to "kick her" when she is up. This is not about sports rivalry.

there is one error in your post though, she didn't get the top MN kids because she didn't try to get them, nor did she want them. Which is part of the reason the Duluth area does not support her team, and I'm willing to bet, the REAL reason her contract is not being renewed.

I agree, I don't like her, but I respect her, she served well, but for too long.

The attendance numbers do not appear to support your theory. And going back 6 years they don't vary much...from 3rd to 5th in the country.

Realistically, there are few choice scholarship spots left for next season at this point - wouldn't think that many recruits would have meaningful options. Look at UNH last season - hung on to all their recruits I believe despite the incredible mess that was going on there.
