Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Us cool Californians are going to go chill with Hawaii....Alaska can come too.

THE END!

Lost a long post by pressing something else, so here's the short of it:eek::mad:might be for the best. Top 6 of SUNYAC are a lock for postseason, but all play-in positions are still up for grabs. Morrisville polished Cortland, and will be riding that into tomorrow at Oz. They stand to gain or lose a ton tomorrow, Oz will be coming home to the student section for the first time in 2011, and B-Port and Genny's roles in the postseason (or lack thereof) are locks, and get nothing but the chance to spoil. Tomorrow's tilt will be the highlight of the remaining regular season, I'll bet.

I was also half hoping that Plattsburgh might be able to snag #3 before the season's out, but Buff State's sweep cannot help with that matter. No #3 seed can travel through Oswego unless it is in the finals - is it the general hope of Oz fans to see the Cards travel a long road in a lower seed, and meet the Lakers in the semis (and get it over with), or they get #3, and delay a meeting till the finals (might be delaying the inevitable, but better chance of winning)? Thoughts?

Pure speculation, naturally - the control of position is in the Cards, after all.

The wounded animal pretending to be Plattsburgh this year is as dangerous as any team in DIII. Who are these guys? Like to seem them at home obviously or not at all.

I'm just very interested as to how the SUNYAC brackets are going to work out now with Platty losing last night, are we in store for a shake-up in the bracket? thoughts?

If the playoffs were to start today, the top 6 would be:

1. Oswego
2. Geneseo
3. Buff St
4. Morrisville
5. Platty
6. Fredonia

Of course, 3-6 are separated by 2 points, so everything is very much up in the air.

BTW, after waiting 3 weeks for USCHO to approve my account...this is my first post. Been a lurker for a long time. Glad to actually contribute :)

Glad to have you, always nice to have another oz fan on here.

And it should be a good game today, Morrisville coming off a big win in Cortland with a full head of steam, hopefully the Lakers don't come out flat, we don't want what happened in the SUNYAC semi's repeating itself again. I'd have a heartattack.

I remember that game, after morrisville scored their 3rd goal you could hear a pin drop 2,000 oswego fans were sitting there in stunned silence, it was an exciting game watching oz go from losing 0-3 to winning 8-5

That was an amazing game! Even down you had the feeling they had the firepower to come back and they did. Neil was the spark and it was something to watch. This team can't do that - so smother them early!

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Same formula applies tonight as it did at Morrisville in the first semester. Get to Relkoff early to get him off his game and don't let them get out to any sort of a lead after the mid way point of the game. The longer they are in it the better the chances of an upset.

My prediction is Oswego destroys morrisville, first homegame in a while, everyone is going to be pumped.

On the contrary, as you had saw by now due to your retraction, the first home game in a long time with the students there a week after clinching the top seed in SUNYAC tournament appeared to be a good thing but lined up to be a great opportunity for Morrisville to take advantage. Point is they are a good team however...

I'm very disappointed in the student section / home crowd. I barely heard them tonight. Granted Oswego may have been playing from behind but there seemed to be to attempt by the home crowd, students especially to motivate the team. Which leads into that the team, like last year fell flat after clinching the top seed.

I would look forward to seeing Morrisville in the playoffs.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Gotta give Morrisville credit they played like this was a desparate playoff game and they went out and took what they thought was theirs. Also Relkoff was great in goal and that is one position that can make or break a playoff run. Hopefully this was Beckwith's "bad game" of the season. Better to have the one SUNYAC loss in the regular season than in the post season. With the results of this weekend, and if next weekend follows suite, it will not matter what seed you are going into the playoffs. Only that it will make some really exciting hockey.

The formula I gave for beating Morrisville was not followed and they lost. The had a couple of chances to get to Relkoff early and they didn't capitalize. Then a screen shot and a really soft goal gave the Mustangs the lead that I said Oswego couldn't afford to give them. Morrisville gift wrapped some big chances in the third period and Oswego didn't make them pay, simple as that.

Relkoff was solid all game but the failed to shoot it high on him pretty much all night and he will stop almost everything he can see down low. They didn't get enough traffic and won almost no battles in front of either net.

Beckwith has not looked real good since he game back with most of the Platty game being the exception. He was ok tonight until he gave up that second goal, from then on he was weak, but he stopped four breakaways, go figure.

Overall they were unable to match the effort of Morrisville, Beckwith couldn't match Relkoff and the fans acted like they were at church most of the time. This is the kind of complacency that is bread by being 46-6 over the last two seasons. The game meant nothing for Oswego and you could tell and they should be ok once the playoffs roll around.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Frankly, a little more of a team effort in geling before the "big games" start would be nice. I won't defend the crowd tonight - they were indeed stunned, and expecting a gladiator show, as the popular show for weekend evenings finally returned. The crowd that hit the road to Plattsburgh and Cortland...THOSE are the real fans of enthusiasm!

Beyond the first period, it looked as though the Lakers didn't really care. It was simple to sum up, and easy to watch and say "well, that sucks, and that is it". I would expect a better performance next week by the Lakers, on the eve of the playoffs. It'll be easy to get to as well :D at least with these results, a few finicky fans will stay home and leave some more tickets available.

Congrats to Morrisville and Relkoff's excellent glove - they battled hard, and beat a team that looked like, on paper...something that at least resembled a team:confused:.
But, there is one silver lining - maybe St Norberts would be so kind as to take USCHO #1 for hereafter:).

No number 1 for SNC, after our stumble vs Stout today.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

from my webseye view...they got knocked the ****** out.....I know there was " nothing to play for " but as a former player you still dont let a team that you are " better than " come into yoour bldg and do that, every aspect of the game was for Mville, they out hustled and out worked and out everythinged the lakers......beckwith look slow and lethargic as well, not what you want to see a few weeks b4 playoffs...the Bremner penalty was a hit from behind not a 5 but how many times will this kid/man take these penalties, does Gosek do ANYTHING to correct these offensive zone penalties that he consistantly takes....as far as relkoff, he played well but saw almost every shot, you have to get in front of that goalie, crowd him, and get in his face Sean Avery style.....Foxxxx scored good for him and the lakers as well hopefully he will put up 10 more the rest of the season....bottomline if a team is better OK, but they got outworked ALL around.......reffing was ok from what I could see......lets get ready for 2 games next week PLEASE.........p.s. Elmira is scaring me...
