Selleck got his first Pro goal against the Crunch tonight. It was actually an own goal by Syracuse but it was an excellent effort on his part to generate the scoring chance. Hopefully this builds his confidence and more will follow.

With the lack of support the Oz goalie got on Friday and the fact it was a conference game, you still feel Jones should have started?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

well you don't know what kind of support the goalie is going to get going into the game. I just thought going in, that Oswego was the much better team and was a good oppurtunity to give Jones a chance. You can always make a change, SUNYAC semi-finals last year.

How much of a threat do you think Utica poses for the Lakers right now? Because we didn't beat 'em by much and in my senior year here I would love nothing more than to see a crack at a perfect season

Way too early for perfect season talk. There are still plenty of quality opponents left on Oswego's schedule and all it takes is one slip-up one night against any team nowadays and you can lose.

Utica has always been a dangerous/thorn in side type of team. It'd be tougher to bet against the Lakers handling them at home, but still.

I just said a CRACK at a perfect season. Wishful thinking! :P

And..not all that insane to think about really. But! Time will tell :D

I am more concerned about Hobart at the Cooler than I am Utica. The Pioneers beat the crap out of teams along the boards and they like to do a little sneaky slashing, hooking and holding. Those are the types of things that can wear a team down physically and with the way Hobart plays at the cooler, they might not have enough gas left to beat them. Utica is a very tough opponent and could end the Lakers long home winning streak if they are not ready to step up the energy and out work them.

This, imho, is the fun time of the year to watch the Lakers . The conference games have concluded, and somewhat akin to last year, OSU is at 16 pts with a sizable lead. Not to say that the Lakers should take their collective foot off the gas pedal, but the pressure of SUNYAC play is done for a month (a relief:)). Now come the games where one can watch our boys play some decent talent out of conference, and entertaining play is sure to follow. The only gripe I have is the lack of a student section after Friday - it'll be awfully quiet, but plenty of open seats for everyone.

Sure hope OSUers can get as many of their friends as possible to head to Hobart for Saturday - it's an extremely short drive to Geneva from most places in West/Central NY.

Utica always play Oz tough so that game won't be a picnic. I totally agree with Laker28 about Hobart. If Oz gets 3 or more goal lead early, go ahead and put it to bed. If the Statesmen keep it close, it will be a dogfight.

I'm thinking about going to Hobart on Saturday, does anyone know if their games usually sell out?, if I get there a little after 6 PM do you think I'd be able to get a decent seat? are there alot of seats available at their venue?

Don't plan on sitting. Hobart is a place to stand. But, you'll have no problem finding a seat. The students, if they show up, don't come until the game is well underway.

It's a standing venue. Oswego will be towards the south end of the rink and I suggest you sit there for two reasons. First, there's a sweet heater right above the stands there that if you stand at the top you actually get a bit warmer. Second, as the William Smith girls come in about mid-way through the first, you have an excellent view of the puck bunnies; mini-skirts and Ugg boots galore.

With no conference games until Jan 21st, any thoughts on when we could see Jones get some time in net?

When coach Gosek sees fit. Eddie likes to run one main goaltender. He isn't much for tandems.

Beckwith has played extraordinarily well so far and Oswego hasn't had any real "push over" opponents so far other than maybe Brockport and that was a league game. I think Jones might get some PT against a Hamiton or some NC game and maybe a SUNYAC game or two if/when the Lakers lock up the #1 overall seed.

Bottom line, you don't mess with a streak in hockey or a hot goaltender.

Considering we didn't even see him in a 17-0 exibition blowout, I wouldn't plan on seeing him at all unless Beckwith really has an awful game. If we do see him it would be against Curry or Skidmore and I would think that would only be if Oswego is still undefeated at that point.
