Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I talked to him outside of the business building here about 2 or so weeks ago, and he said that he would be available, and in GAME condition by late Nov. early December. But, things may have changed since then. I hope to see him on the ice sooner rather than later. Practicing on a tender ankle and playing a fast paced game on it are two entirely different things. BUT, hopefully all is well.

On another note. Perhaps to get conversation brewing again here. 2 questions:

1) Who do you think [granted its early in the season] has the more potent offense Oswego or Platty

2) It appears rather obvious that Oswego has the superior goaltending in this matchup, but how much will that affect THIS specific game.

Thoughts?

Having not seen Oswego yet, just knowing how Beckwith has done so far... I'm not gonna say that Oswego has "superior goaltending" but their goalie has played better. the key for this game and the rest of the season for Plattsburgh is for the team in front of the goalie to play a lot better than they did last weekend. if the Cardinals D gives the puck away as much as they did last weekend then Oswego wins the game handidly. if the Plattsburgh D comes to play, both goalies showed last yaer that they are legit and can play with the best teams in the country. should be interesting to see Saturday night.

Fun fact #1. Paul Beckwith has NEVER started against Plattsburgh.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

so the question is, what will he come down with this weekend???? He's done the groin and H1N1..... hahaha

We're not talking about Potter here chief...that ship has sailed. Kind of like your nine-game winning streak against the Lakers. :)

I didn't say anything about need Midol between shots..... IIFR Beckwith hurt his groin his freshman year then had H1N1 (reportedly) last year which gave KGT the nets going into the Plattsburgh/Potsdam weekend..... both of these cases came at the beginning of the season just before the road trip to Plattsburgh and cost Paul the starting job.

Never started but he has played against Plattsburgh (Freshman year, he came on in relief of Potter who had an episode).

ok past is the past, and I have a feeling both goalies will play well....lets see what happens this weekend.................p.s. still have to deal with a Potsdam team that has played very well on all accounts

My post said "NEVER played" for about five minutes and then I did a quick fact check and found he came in relief. That's why my post appeared the way it did with started rather than played :)

I'm crossing my fingers praying that it will be a good game Saturday at the Campus Center. I hope my Cardinals pull it out, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. I just want Plattsburgh to play a good game, and keep the game tight throughout. That SUNYAC championship massacre CANNOT repeat itself.

On another note...Is Emery going with a rotation with his goalies this year? And if so, and he keeps it the same, I guess we would see Williams in net. Any thoughts on this? For me, Williams is the type of goalie who is either hot or cold. Last year, in the regular season matchup vs. Oswego at the CC, Leis started badly, Williams relieved him, and he was stellar. But in the SUNYAC championship he started and gave up 5 goals on 14 shots. Leis started the rest of the games in the NCAAs, so is Emery feeling that Leis is the stronger of the 2?

I would think Emery would be begging for one of the goalies to step up and assert himself as the sure No. 1 starter. However, both goalies have crashed and burned every time it looked like they were starting to build some momentum.

The D at platty has to step up, and I dont mean at the blueline, as well, along with forwards coming back, as stated in another post..........but...............hopefully not sat night ;-)

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Have seen every game so far at the CC and the Lakers offense is a work in progress but their defense is stout! Defensemen work well and cover each other perfectly, forwards back check on every rush and Beckwith is solid in goal. In games like this I think best defense wins and that's the Lakers. I am still uncomfortable with not having a proven backup for Beckwith - he is going to have to play a lot of minutes!

Let's remember that a good majority of D1 and D3 players came from Jr. hockey programs where they played 60+ games a season and if they made the post season and were successful probably 16+ additional games. I don't think it's a matter of the amount of games they play in college but the importance of each one. If you have a bad outing it may cost your team a chance at the play-offs.
