Selection Show

Re: Selection Show

NE at BC
Clarkson at Quinni
Merceyhurst at UW
Princeton at Gophers

Whaaaath ? They don't even arrange for cross league match-ups in the East. What is that Forest Gump statement again. !!!!

Re: Selection Show

At least you're reacting halfway logically and haven't gone completely apoplectic.
I'm pretty apoplectic, but I'm also looking at this completely logically. What's the point of having selection criteria if you're going to take a steaming dump on it?

Seriously, what an uncompelling bracket. How do you add an intraconference game and give the middle finger to bracket integrity at the same time?

Re: Selection Show

We kind of got screwed too. We were supposed to get to see Kendall Coyne (and all of her team, of course) play at Ridder Arena.

Re: Selection Show

All that work with the Pairwise Calculator, down the drain.

Re: Selection Show

Maybe after years of "rewarding" the WCHA winner by screwing with bracket integrity to make them play another conference game, they just assumed they had to do the same thing to this year's top overall seed.

Or someone at the NCAAs was insulted by Grant's bold statement that he could do their job for them, and decided to mess with him and BC a little bit.

Those are the two most legitimate reasons I can think of for this bracket.

Re: Selection Show

I'm happy but surprised by Princeton's inclusion. When was the last time a team that didn't make their conference semifinals get selected?

I had the exact same though. I was really looking forward to watching that game.

I know we don't live a perfect world, and I realize that Min and Wisc are clearly the 3 and 2 seed respectively. But just humor me with this bracket which kept somewhat bracket integrity and avoided intra-league semi match ups (unless some significant upsets)...
(1) BC v (8) Mercyhurst
(4) Minn v (5) Clarkson
(2) Wisc v (7) Princeton
(3) Quin v (6) Northeastern
I know there are three flights with this bracket, and it moves my Gophs down to #4, but doesn't this sound nice?
Start shredding me. :)

Can't say I have an answer to that question. ARM, any insight?

I will say that, if you've been following the threads here, it was certainly likely barring any surprise winners in the conference tournaments. But your destination is very much a surprise.

"If you want to have an undefeated season, you have to beat the second place team in your conference over and over again."

Re: Selection Show

Wisconsin - Mercyhurst will be Saturday at 7 p.m. CT / 8 p.m. ET (per Wisconsin's Twitter)

Re: Selection Show

And rounding things out... Quinnipiac-Clarkson will be Saturday at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT (per QU's Twitter)

Re: Selection Show

The rule is:

Pairings in the quarterfinal round shall be based primarily on the teams’ geographical proximity to one another, regardless of their region, in order to avoid air travel in quarterfinal-round games whenever possible.

And Princeton to Minneapolis + Boston to also Boston definitely satisfies the geographical proximity rule better than the other combination.

We were all hypnotized by the "avoid air travel" part, but that was just talk. The actual *rule* was "geographic proximity" all along. Live and learn.

You omitted the following line, though:

Teams’ relative strength, according to the committee’s selection criteria, shall be considered when establishing pairings if such pairings do not result in air travel that otherwise could be avoided.

Re: Selection Show

So, is Northeastern on the Green Line, or are they going to have to change trains at Government Center or something? My knowledge of the T isn't what it used to be.
