Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Logged on just in time for a gruesomely injured ref during warmups. Did anyone see what happened? (camera is live during ads on wcha.tv, not sure if that puddle under his head was shown on live TV)

I saw the same thing. Dirk and Brent said he was skating backwards with his hands in his pockets and tripped over a puck. Brent said he was out cold immediately. I don't know if he bit his tongue or broke his jaw or just split his head bad. Didn't look good.

I hope your game tonight has had a better atmosphere than ours. It might have been the quietest college game I've ever been too. We even got yelled at by an usher that we weren't allowed to bang on the glass (and 2 seconds later, a player hit it at full speed right in front of us, with the glass staying perfectly intact).

Disapointing, I'd say pull Jamie earlier than 50 seconds with the season on the line.

Mel with Dirk:
Ran into a strong defensive team, haven't seen a team like that in a long time
We didn't adjust to it well, weren't in sync
can't fault the effort, just real tough game, couldn't buy one tonight
Had a few good PP looks in 2nd, but they're a top PK team
Jamie was excellent
Very proud of thea team, thanked seniors for putting Tech hockey back on the map, tough way to send them out
We knew we had to get at least to the championship game for NCAA, nice to be in conversation again, but tough loss
Our league just didn't do enough outside of conference
We had a tight team that played for each other, oustanding people in that locker room
Thanks to fans, community and alumni

Let me be the first to say that this team rocked it all year. They should all be proud of bringing the Cup back to Houghton.
We will fall short this year, but we will be back and with the quality of our coaching staff, we will celebrate in bigger things in the next few years.
What a ride, too bad it fell one game short, congratulations Huskies, what a team.......

Agreed, ever since Mel took over we have been making strides, won the GLI again, made our first NCAA Tournament in 3 decades, brought the MacNaughton back home and most importantly brought back a tradition of winning. We are definitely losing some very talented players, but we've got a lot of talent on this team coming back next year and a lot more coming in. Good things will continue to happen for this team, just sucks when this happens, especially the way it did tonight.

I will say, I'm looking forward to guys like L'Esperance and Gillies stepping up to fill the void, and the sophomore campaign of Jake Lucchini. I don't think scoring will be the issue. The question will be, who steps in for Phillips and how well does he do?

L'Esperance is a beast, equally as talented as Pietilla, Kero or Petan, maybe even more so plus he has size on all 3 of those guys, he is going to be a force to be reckoned with I think. Plus we have Heinonen returning hopefully, he probably could go pro but I hope he stays.

Goalie does have me worried, Kero and Wintjes have what, like 3 games total play time between the 2 of them? I know Wintjes looked quite solid the few chances he has had and the Kero has been chosen over him to go on some road trips this year so they obviously have a lot of confidence in him, hopefully one or both can step up next year and carry the load like Jamie has.

I'm probably overthinking it. I mean, we've got one of the best goalie coaches in the NCAA on staff. :)

Goaltender will be an interesting situation. You've got Angus Redmond coming in too.

Yeah, I definitely see D. Kero and Wintjes getting their chances, but Redmond could be the wildcard. He's close to Phillips-sized and over-ripened with 4 seasons in the BCHL.

Who did you think I meant? :p

Yes you do if he doesn't get a head coaching job somewhere in the off season.

Always a possibility, but Tech will cross that bridge when we get there, eh?
