Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

The BSU TV announcers sounded like the most depressed guys on earth.

That period.....*sigh*...was dominated by *long exhale* MTU.
yeah, same thing on the radio, and I don't blame them. It was kind of funny how they kept saying, "It's only worth two points no matter how many times they score," like Tech was being discourteous by running up the score or something.

They also snickered, giving credit to the size of Jamie Phillips' pads for a lot of saves. It was cute, but Phillips pads didn't hang 9 goals on the Beavers.

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

I have very few issues with that performance. They let off the gas too much in the third, but made up for that a bit by running it up in the final 5 minutes.

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

I have to give Serratore a bit of props..."competitive maturity" is the best post-game interview BS I've heard all year.

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Your guys were excellent tonight. The two hard core fans were great. I can't imagine what your rink must be like filled with fans as avid as these two were. They did you proud. Not vulgar like UND fans or rude like UMTC. They were great. Why the switch of jerseys from last night? The Friday jersey is clear, sharp and definately the best looking away jersey. Not so impressed with the Saturday yellow. BTW please feel free to graduate your goalie. He's too good. Thanks.
Ps.... Your band is an experience all college hockey fans should experience, awesome

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Not that it really mattered but did anyone watch last night's game and think Chris Leibinger penalty should have been called? I was there at the game and I thought he was just protecting himself from a CFB...I didn't think he brought his elbow up or anything?
I thought there might've been an elbow, but the BSU color guy on the video said what you said, its either get hit hard or protect yourself from a hard hit and he didn't seem like he was sure it was an elbow.

When we have to wear black at home this second half of the season, why not mix the white, cream and golds on the road! Love the cream jerseys though.

Thanks for the kind words.
One of the best things about going to a game in Houghton is that a lot of people bring their kids. It's a family thing and the students respect that. I think it brings out a habit of civility. Anyway, for whatever reason, even though there are some raunchy chants from time to time, a Tech game is a great place to go. I can't say that for the Kohl center. I would never take my kid there.
I also give a ton of credit to coach Pearson for having the rink full. The team plays an exciting, and interesting style of hockey very reminiscent of how the Red Wings play. I think it's a lot of the reason we pretty much only have standing room available, game after game. Personally I'd rather watch that style than what seems like half of college hockey emulating the Tampa Bay Lightening or the Florida Panthers.
PS, the two back up goalies are just as good as the primary one.

I know one of the guys personally, he's a cool guy. As for the non-vulgarity, MTU fans pride themselves on it. They DO have some racy cheers, so to speak, but if there are families/kids around, they refuse to do them. And frankly, the racy cheers aren't all that racy, BUT...

After seeing Friday's game, I was a little surprised (pleasantly surprised) to see last night's result. That was simply a whuppin'.

Contrast that to the Whitney, which changed last year.

What most of us would call two sets of parallel lines, their marketing team calls "a dynamic W that responds to the artworks and words around it..."
I can't believe companies actually pay money for that garbage. Yeah, the graphics on my site suck, but I designed them online for free and I don't hype them up with marketing-speak about how great they are...

A company I used to work for spent tens of thousands of dollars for company wide "rebranding". The marketing consulting firm after several months came back with a new font, new color scheme and used "[air]" as the new image. (The square brackets were always around the word when printed. Ex. We are the [air] experts.)

One of the consultants proudest claims (in a full page document explaining the change and how great it was) was that they were the only company in their industry who used "air" as part of their slogan which would really make them stand out. Within 10 minutes of the press released being mailed out to all employees, an employee emailed back a list of more than a dozen other companies, competitors no less, that all had "air" in their tagline or slogan... Oops.

It was 50-50 IMO. The puck was about a stick length from Leibinger, however he didn't make a move towards the puck, but set himself to make the check on the BSU player. He was in a no win situation. He stood his ground and by doing so didn't play the puck, so he got the penalty. However if he moves towards the puck pretty sure he would have been lined up for a big hit by the BSU player. In short, I agree with the call but I don't blame CL for what he did as he knew what was coming. I think if the puck had been in his feet he might have gotten away with it.

On this date in 1980, hockey fans saw something they never thought was possible. A magical coach took a bunch of college players and put it all together on one night, and years of hard work were rewarded with a win that cemented his status as one of the legendary figures in the sport. Almost no one saw it live. But now all these years later, the accomplishment still hasn't diminished much. So congratulations John MacInnes on the 36th anniversary of your 5-1 win at Denver, the 502nd of your career and the one that moved you into the top spot of most wins by a college coach over Snooks Kelly's 501.

Oh, and the US beat the Soviets 4-3 that night too.

Congrats to JM it was a different time. And thanks to the CBC which DID show it live as I stayed home to watch it. Benefits of being near the border.

Well from a success point of view, the Met logo has started out poorly, but the Whitney, with the block letters and the stylized W, has been a smash. So just saying... of course the Whitney is a modern art museum, so it's looking for something different than what some one else might be looking for. But honestly, I really like it. Especially on the bags and stationary etc. that they put out. It's unique and really identifies the product well.

I'm reaching out to all you mathematically minded folks (which I am not)

obviously, we win the MacNaughton, we to da tournament, eh?

but is there a way (a realistic way) for us to get an at large bid???? I tried following along with Big Blue's scenario but it seemed to have more physic equations in it than relativity.

there is going to be a John Scott movie made!!

You win the Broadmoor, you're in. Beyond that: no math! ;)

Its a little harry yet right now but it is completely possible that MTU loses the championship game and gets in...odds of that right now? I have no idea, I can probably lay an odds on it after the regular season is over. MTU probably needs to go 3-0-1 over the next 4 to have a reasonable shot at an at-large bid (and sweep the playoff series).

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

wah! I thought we were done in. oh those Anchorage games, a ferris game ... or two ...

There have only been 2 years under the current system (this being the 3rd), last year the worst at-large bid had an RPI of 0.5411, in 2014 it was 0.5384. If they sweep Alaska, W & T vs NMU, sweep their first round opponent, make the title game against MSU. Worst case, their RPI is around 0.5350...probably not good enough but that was assume worst case for opponents and doesn't take in to account what anyone but MTU does.
