Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Blake Pietila drops the gloves
Very interesting to see the linesmen have them tied up but then clearly the players convinced them that they should just let them go and let them settle it right then and there. I know a lot of people think fighting should be out of hockey, but that's a good example of just let the players get it out of their system and then move on, rather than letting it fester. I've seen too many games where they break up a fight and it just leads to 3 or 4 more fights the same night because the players want the score settled even if the officials say "you're done".

Reminds me of how the Milwaukee Admirals unveiled their logo in 2006 (the 'South Park Canadian Pirate').
Well if you don't like it... Blame Canada.
;-)
Actually I liked that logo, but frankly I've like all of their logos even when the Admiral was allowed to have side burns, just like real Admirals do in the Navy...

Logos are difficult...you want to be simplistic but you don't want to come off as amateur. I do not envy anyone doing that for something as big as a university. I had enough trouble doing the Misfits Logo and that was for a student organization...

Simple is almost always better. Original 6 still have the best uni's in the NHL IMO. I remember from the survey questions asking which logo do you like better and then showing the Penn State Nittany Lion logo http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/vi...0g/Penn_State_Nittany_Lions/2005/Primary_Logo vs the Arkansas Razorback logo http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/60692202014/Arkansas_Razorbacks/2014/Primary_Logo.

Another question was the ASU Sun Devil logo http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/60465632012/Arizona_State_Sun_Devils/2011/Primary_Logo against the Texas Longhorn http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/5o2wuto6hq2592hhy9e4prm6e/Texas_Longhorns/1961/Primary_Logo (can't recall matchups exactly).

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

The Huskies are 6-0-2 in their last 8 WCHA road games, with the last loss coming at NMU back in October. When you average 45 goals in 13 away games (3.46 goals/game) and are clicking at nearly 27
percent on the power play (26.7) on the road, it's easy to see why.

Hope the week off didn't squelch all the momentum. But a healthy Tyler Heinonen would be very welcome.

I guess I'm the only one who liked the current husky logo, it's unique from all the other school's who use the husky as their mascot, I actually like it quite a lot and will be very disappointed if it ends up looking like the suggested cross between NIU and Washington as that's way too close to every other school who uses the husky as a mascot and it just looks generic and plain, where the current logo stands out. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not a huge fan of piano dog, but I agree that the possible replacement styles lack character or distinctiveness, which piano dog does have. Whatever we do adopt, it had best not be a derivative of existing logos.

Hopefully with a week off they are hungry to get on the ice and take off. First period I believe will be telling.

Considering the husky is a black and white dog, it's hard to imagine there won't be a similarity to some existing logos. There are only so many ways you can depict it.

That being said, the piano dog came out in an era of just flat out bad logos and branding. Most every organization that made a logo change in the early to mid 90's has ditched that version (e.g. Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders) because they were so reviled. It's a representative look of the era - and that alone is a good reason to ditch it. I'd love to see some more retro looks come back, like the stacked MTU - but the piano dog needed to go a long time ago. It sucks, always has and always will.

I think the current logo is vastly superior to every other husky logo out there, except for UConn's new logo - that one is all right because it's a realistic-looking husky and it decently captures the most distinctive and striking feature of the breed: the eyes.

I have a hard time seeing why people dislike the "piano dog" so much. As for a husky dog, it's not all that bad. It certainly, in my opinion, doesn't look nearly as bad as NMU's wildcat head.

Those keys coming off it's head... just rage inducing levels of terribad.

Many a moon ago, I remember an attempt at a new logo with some type of black/white negative image of the huskie. Never made it through the summer.

Does any consulting get done? I know there was some specific brand consulting done for the MTU, Mich Tech, etc and how would be depicted on t-shirts and other items. I got a bunch of free swag that way as the bookstores were dumping it.

Make it happen. It starts tonight; seven weeks left in the season, every game better than your last.

Buried in the news that the NMU is negotiating with Barnes and Noble to run bookstore, is that NMU is:
Trustees also authorized the NMU administration to proceed with new academic and athletic logos. A special meeting of the board is scheduled for 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, to vote on the final designs. The process was initiated last summer. NMU contracted with an outside firm, Rickabaugh Graphics, to submit initial ideas for a new graphic identity for general university use and an updated Wildcat logo and lettering for athletics. More than 500 people gave feedback in focus groups composed of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The designs will be refined for the special meeting of the board in April.

Welp. Not looking good. I was all excited to watch the game tonight (it's on public TV in the Twin Cities area) and I get this blah game. :( Might shut it off to change the juju.

Had them dropping one this weekend after the break. Not all is lost, but it gets harder with having to win tomorrow now.
