SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

I assume you had a good time at the Muddy Rivers social. Were you able to upgrade your seats in the third period last night?:D

Social is tonight. Yes, by the third period you could find a seat anywhere you wanted to watch
Who would have predicted a shutout for a freshman emergency replacement goaltender? Oh that's right! I did. I had a vision and put it on A Huskies board.
No visions yet for tonight. More later.

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

Here are my thoughts on the game...

St. Cloud State: Obviously Faragher played outstanding. I'm not sure if it was blind luck, but there were a few times that the kid made just enormous saves, most of which were when the game was 1-0. Plain and simple, SCSU won last night because of him. That being said, too many dumb penalties by St. Cloud put them in a bind. You can usually deal with losing one player, but two is a big hurdle to overcome. I have to give kudos to St. Cloud though. The third period they were by far the better, more engaged team, despite being down to ten forwards. I think tonight's game will be completely different, but if SCSU can play 5x5 they will have a very good shot at taking four points in Grand Forks...that doesn't happen very often.

North Dakota: I thought North Dakota struggled 5x5. While some will point to the lopsided shot totals, I don't feel that that was indicative of the game. When you have 8 powerplays, including two 5:00 majors, and a 5x3 for a full two minutes, I would expect plenty of shots. True, North Dakota basically screwed themselves over on the first major by taking two minors during it, but that doesn't excuse not capitalizing on those opportunities. I didn't feel that North Dakota had a very strong powerplay, as the Sioux tended to launch shots from the point instead of work it around to try to get a better scoring opportunity on a night where the opposing goalie was clearly playing very well. Defensively, we made too many mistakes, and struggled at times to get the puck out of our own end. I thought Dell played okay. The third goal was weak, getting beat 5 hole on a shot from the point that was not tipped and mostly unscreened. At that point though, the game was basically over anyway. Tonight, I want to see North Dakota continue to improve defensively, and would like to see Dell back in the net to see how he responds. I also want to see the Sioux get back to playing Fighting Sioux hockey. It has been lacking this first month of the season. Tonight's game is important to get this team back on track. They have played well enough to win, but have to play a stronger game both physically and mentally.

Anyway, just my thoughts from the game...

Found that "fire Dave Hackstool" web site for all you No Dak fans.

I don't think any real North Dakota fans are wanting to fire Hakstol. One would be a fool to count North Dakota out at this point in time. Hakstol has a track record of getting the team to peak in the second half of the season, and his February/March record is ridiculous. If only his April record was stronger...

The college hockey world better enjoy this time right now because come the end of the season, I don't think anyone is going to want to be playing North Dakota.

Their record is great in the second half. But they have lost games that weren't even close to the teams picked to finish in 8th and 9th place. The Sioux still have two series with what looks to be a very good Gophers team, series against CC and a much improved Tech team, and series at Denver and UMD.

Not counting out UND by any means, but just because they usually play better in the second half doesn't mean they will this year.

I think most Sioux fans are counting on them making a second half push again because of the amount of young talent that still has to develop. Whether or not this happens is yet to be seen...
BTW, Faragher played out of his mind last night. Some saves might have been lucky but he was in the zone and not giving up very many rebounds. The pipe helped him a few times too.;) I for one am wishing Lee would have made the trip now...

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

It will be interesting to see how Faragher does tonight. He seems to play with an abundance of confidence. I liked his quotes in the Grand Forks Herald. He's got thee right goalie mentality. I think he thrives on stopping a lot of pucks.

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

Sorry FTLT. You are so on the mark with so many of your posts. But on this one, you are just plain wrong due to past history and so many other reasons.

Shut out by a freshman in an 'emergency' start no less? It just doesn't get any more funny.

I have to agree with Rabib's better half here. If we sweep, on the other hand....all KINDS of chest thumping. ;)

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

I noticed he did the statue of liberty several times last night but you can do that when you have a shutout with 44 saves...

Didn't your goalies used to do that when they were any good?

He also likes to discard the puck to the face-off circles. Him and mcMillan do a chest bump ritual after wins. Gotta love goalies with character.

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

Well its official, we are the suckiest sucks that ever sucked. We just lost to UND... Not even a quality opponent like MTU. Wow.

Here's where in year's passed I'd wish you guys luck throughout the season and saw hope we see you again. But then the NCHC happened. So, now this is awkward...

Noticed there wasn't one Statute of Liberty during last night’s game. Didn’t see the goalie skate over and drop the puck on the face off circle. Wonder if someone talked to him about that?

Re: SCSU @ UND Oct. 28 & 29: A Battle of Like-Minded Schools

Noticed Aaron Dell prevented the puck from going in the net last night. Wonder if someone talked to him about that?
