SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

Peckscamp made a play on first goal...to say you liked more out of Peckscamp than Hanowski is stupid...Hanowski scored 2, had other chances, and yes he did in fact back-check

You missed the point again. :D He wasn't saying Peckskamp was a better player than Hanowski. He thought sunday he played better. I didn't see the game, so I won't comment on who played better.

Did I just stick up for Euro?

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

I'm not talking about Lasch, at this point, he is what he is.
You brought up Hanowski's lack of D play, that's what I'm commenting on.

It wasn't that he DIDN'T PLAY ANY D, its just that he looked a little lost at times and took an unnecessary penalty in there. In other words, there were a couple times I found myself saying "C'mon Ben" and shaking my head. AGAIN: first game... didn't count... and for the record I am NOT saying we should panic. I guess I was just saying everyone here should curb their enthusiasm on him for now.

Euro, You are an idiot if you liked Peckscamp more than Hanowski...Peckscamp, skates hard but he is D3 player...Peckscamp will play in maybe 5 games all year....No where near as good as Hanowski, especially Sunday night...Also, what is expected of Hanowski? Was he supposed to go out there and walk 3 guys every shift and get prime scoring chances every time?..Chuck Grillo said he put in one of the best summers of anyone he's seen in 30 years at MN Hockey Camps...pretty high praise right there..it was an exhibition game, you all need to relax...they've hardly worked the PP, they weren't in normal game situations...basically rolling the lines and Dmen and just playing

Motox gets exactly what I was saying. I praised Peckskamp because I thought he cycled the puck well, he was hitting people, and everytime I noticed a Husky REALLY hustling it was most often either Marvin or Peckskamp. Is he better than Hanowski? No. Will he have a better year this year than Hanowski? Probably not, and if he does, that doesn't bode well for this team. However, last night I thought that despite that Hanowski buried two, Peckskamp had a better game.

Of course Hanowski deserved the first star, and being somewhat a local guy (in SCSU's prime recruiting area) and having all those high school records, its awesome that he was easily recognizable for doing something. I think most fans at the game would say he was better. I THOUGHT the point of these threads were to talk about more in-depth details than just the obvious stuff you can pick up from the boxscore, but ok, then Hanowski and Volpei were both awesome, everyone else for SCSU was equally good.

On a side note (going back to hustle) did anyone else see Novak lose the puck in the offensive zone, then like a bat out of hell just close in on his man in the blink of an eye? I've seen Novak's wheels when he's already got some momentum going, but boy can he accelerate from near standstill. I go back to the thought that last year's freshman four at forward have the potential to be a helluva class, because they've all not only got talent, but they're all really good at completely different aspects of the game.

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

There are a lot of good metro-kids that St. Cloud misses out on.

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

Hanowski's penalty was a horrid call, he barely got his stick in there to make it a hook...Peckscamp hustles, but he also is not a great puck mover...for the pass he made on goal, he made more worse plays, much more than his positives

Novak can burn, but until he can soften his hands up in tight and finish plays he will continue to make you think what he could do, if he could just finish

Volpei's game winner was just a straight lucky goal...Need to see more out of him consistently to make me think he can be a 20-25 pt guy...Mosey and he must have played in Salmon Arm when the BCHL was at its worst

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

Most of the metrosexual kids go to UMN.

I'm disappointed... stb, a kid who wears pink shirts and goes to hockey games with a collared shirt, set himself up for a metro joke and you went elsewhere?

I was in the student section, so I didn't have a great view of the Hanowski penalty on the other end of the ice. He looked out of position and I thought it was a good call, but I can't say for sure from where I was standing. And maybe I was just so impressed with Peckskamp because I was expecting so little from him.

And yeah... Volpei's goal was lucky as hell. We were getting geared up to treat Lethbridge's goalie to a shower of "Its All Your Fault!" chants until that huge hit against the benches disrupted that plan. And I am a HUGE fan of Volpei, and even I don't think he'll be a 25 point guy. But on this team, he doesn't need to be, and we shouldn't be asking that of him.

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

I couldn't disagree with that statement more. Sure they only had two "formal" practices but for God's sake this isn't pee-wee's. Hell, most of this team played together last year and while I'll give you the fact that we should expect them to be rusty we should always expect them to play well.

No it's not pee-wee but there still is going to be rust after not playing games for nearly six months and to expect them to play well after that is asking a bit much IMO.
Motzko said as much on the coaches show, that he was expecting sloppy and sloppy was what he got.
He said they got basically no time to work on anything special teams related and barely got to work on sets for the offense.
Yes most of this team played together last year but line combos (except on D) were different and who knows what new things they might do.
I don't think we've seen the same PP from one year to the next with Motzko.
It's like a pre-season game in football, yes a lot of the team may be back, but it's still sloppy in a lot of cases just because you haven't played in so long.

Volpei getting to 15-20 points would be wonderful.
He's going to be a 4th line guy who will be a fill in on the top 2-3 for now while Eddy is gone but his game is energy, that's what we need from him more than his scoring.

Went down to the rink today to catch one last practice before the Huskies leave for Miami (Ohio). They departed by bus at 5 p.m. and will drive to Madison before stopping for the night. On Wednesday, they'll continue on toward Oxford, Ohio. Sight of the day was Sam Zabkowicz, a native of suburban Milwaukee and an acknowledged Packers fan, wearing a practice jersey on which his teammates had taped a big "4" under the name "Favre" on the back. He wore it throughout practice. Another Green Bay fan disappointed by the Vikings' 30-23 victory Monday night was rookie goalie Mike Lee, who celebrated his 19th birthday while watching the game.

"Roseau is Packers country," Lee said. "Wait until (forward recruit Nick) Oliver gets down here. We'll really turn the tide green-and-gold."

As for baseball and the Twins' playoff game against the Tigers, there was plenty of interest in that, too, but the players will have to settle for radio or text-message updates en route.

Everyone on the roster made the trip, including David Eddy, who remains on crutches with a left ankle injury. He had X-rays Monday, confirming there is no fracture. There's still swelling around the ankle, which he injured when he stopped during a drill and his skate caught -- causing him to topple on top of his leg. He's expected to be out at least until a Nov. 13-14 series at North Dakota.

"It sucks that it had to happen, but at least it wasn't in the middle of the season," Eddy said. "Hopefully I can start putting weight on it soon and get back before too long."

I'm starting the SCSU/Union thread. Consider this dibs, yo.

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

Where's the In-Season thread?
When does the season on Hmong open in Wisconsin?

Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!

I thought it was interesting that Roe talked how important it was to stay in St. Cloud and being with teammates over the summer. Then in the Lasch article it talks about Lasch going off on teammates at the end of last year and spending the summer in california.

I found that interesting as well.
