Re: SCSU Off-season thread 2; DL's NOT DEAD!
I'm not talking about Lasch, at this point, he is what he is.
You brought up Hanowski's lack of D play, that's what I'm commenting on.
It wasn't that he DIDN'T PLAY ANY D, its just that he looked a little lost at times and took an unnecessary penalty in there. In other words, there were a couple times I found myself saying "C'mon Ben" and shaking my head. AGAIN: first game... didn't count... and for the record I am NOT saying we should panic. I guess I was just saying everyone here should curb their enthusiasm on him for now.
Euro, You are an idiot if you liked Peckscamp more than Hanowski...Peckscamp, skates hard but he is D3 player...Peckscamp will play in maybe 5 games all year....No where near as good as Hanowski, especially Sunday night...Also, what is expected of Hanowski? Was he supposed to go out there and walk 3 guys every shift and get prime scoring chances every time?..Chuck Grillo said he put in one of the best summers of anyone he's seen in 30 years at MN Hockey Camps...pretty high praise right there..it was an exhibition game, you all need to relax...they've hardly worked the PP, they weren't in normal game situations...basically rolling the lines and Dmen and just playing
Motox gets exactly what I was saying. I praised Pecks
kamp because I thought he cycled the puck well, he was hitting people, and everytime I noticed a Husky REALLY hustling it was most often either Marvin or Pecks
kamp. Is he better than Hanowski? No. Will he have a better year this year than Hanowski? Probably not, and if he does, that doesn't bode well for this team. However, last night I thought that despite that Hanowski buried two, Pecks
kamp had a better game.
Of course Hanowski deserved the first star, and being somewhat a local guy (in SCSU's prime recruiting area) and having all those high school records, its awesome that he was easily recognizable for doing something. I think most fans at the game would say he was better. I THOUGHT the point of these threads were to talk about more in-depth details than just the obvious stuff you can pick up from the boxscore, but ok, then Hanowski and Volpei were both awesome, everyone else for SCSU was equally good.
On a side note (going back to hustle) did anyone else see Novak lose the puck in the offensive zone, then like a bat out of hell just close in on his man in the blink of an eye? I've seen Novak's wheels when he's already got some momentum going, but boy can he accelerate from near standstill. I go back to the thought that last year's freshman four at forward have the potential to be a helluva class, because they've all not only got talent, but they're all really good at completely different aspects of the game.
