SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I just crunched the numbers quickly, and SCSU should bring back the second most scoring next season. Duloot is first, even with Bordson leaving. UND is third but should probably get more credit if Genoway comes back. This isn't counting UNO and BSU... yet.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Euro, did you guys tailgate on Friday? We actually parked in the $4 lot right next to DQ. I drove around the lots by DQ but didn't see anyone.

So the SOBs had a big sign out saying: NO EVENT PARKING, CARS WILL BE TOWED.

You'd think they'd be smart enough to want to fill up a lot for $10 a spot. Oh well. But we'll for sure be back next year for F5, show up then. :D

Is Joey Benik going to play elsewhere next year? I know he's small but that kid can really shoot the puck.

I really hope he goes somewhere else for a year, maybe two. Talent, sure, but I honestly thought Hanowski had a better freshman year than I expected, and he struggled mightily at times.

I personally think Zabs is one of our better stick handlers, and best defenders. Only time I would say maybe not play him a lot would be against UND.

Agree with the Eddy comment, but Zabs regressed the last half of the year. Or maybe it was that I was expecting a jump, but either way, he was our 4th best blueliner at the end behind Raboin, Lauridsen and amazingly enough, Hepp  . And he was only that high up bc Gaudet and Johnson both looked shaky as hell.

Mosey has catapulted himself into one of the most underrated offensive guys in the WCHA. His ability to get a key goal or assist can't be taught. Without a doubt he's the most improved player on the squad.

If anyone but the Dane is the most improved player, I'll re-friend shortbus on Facebook. :D

Novak's game is still raw but he's got to be one of the top 5 speediest players in college hockey.

I was totally impressed by Johnson's ability to crack the lineup and add 12 points without playing a full season. He can be a Raboin type player.

I don't see it. Johnson could end up putting up Raboin's type of offensive numbers, but I don't think he'll ever be the defensive presence Garrett was.

Still with the angry face?

We could win 3 straight National Titles, the red face stays until the Gophers or some other lame *** copycats steal it

Read will ya! a "Raboin Type" player - NOT replacing Raboin. Raboin is a one of kind player for the passion and effort.

To say Raboin type player should AT A MINIMUM mean he can play offense and defense with the best in the WCHA. You think Taylor Johnson will ever be an elite DEFENSIVE defenseman in the WCHA?

Hey Boomer... who was it again that told you Yale was going to beat North Dakota?

YES--It was the King of RPI, the Prince of Bracketology--the ONE, the ONLY.....RED CLOUD!!

And I believed you. On the DaHuskies thing, I predicted the same thing (only because I believe everything you say. :)

You did, however, fail to inform me that RIT was going to beat Denver . . .

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

We have a newbie here, I've never really been one to post on fan boards but it has to start sometime. I've been following the huskies since I moved into town about 7 years ago and consistently keep updates on the team.

Next year's roster:
Forwards-Marvin has continued to improve his game each year despite the fact that he didn't produce this year like people thought he would, he is an all around player though and you can't help but like guy like him. Roe will obviously be the key for this team again, he wears his heart on his sleeve and brings skill, passion, and an emotional fire for the team to rely on. People always compare him to Lasch but let's be honest here, Roe has scored more than Lasch up until the same points in their careers, he is the catalyst of the PP and a strong point on the PK and plays in every situation....when Roe is flat, the team is flat; when Roe is going, the team is unstoppable...the same cant be said for Lasch despite the career he had.

Mosey, LeBlanc, Festler, Novak, Hanowski, Eddy-all of them bring a skill and something unique to the game, they can all put the puck in the net, but besides Novak and Mosey, they are defensive reliabilites. Yes, we know that LeBlanc has the skill, but did we watch him on the PK this year, I can't believe Bob didn't replace him with any of the other forwards.

Oslund is a big time guy on this team for next year...the kid can shoot and he can play a physical game, he will be that senior that steps up in big situations and produces a clutch moment every time and again.

Defense-The big #25 has improved tremendously and will be the leader on the d-corps with Hepp next year. They both bring a physical style of game and have a will to get the job done. Maybe they don't handle the puck the best, but that's probably why they aren't forwards.

#3-Yes the kid can skate and recover well but this kid is literally scared of his own shadow. Versus UND, he's invisible...versus MN he is good, but it's those tough physical games that win you championships and he will never win any physical battles.
Johnson, Barta, Rioux-Johnson has an offensive upside and yes he might be a liability in his own end but he is learning and he is willing to throw his body in there and take a beating to get it done. Barta will be a steady senior who isn't flashy, but that's a good thing for a guy like him....he was solid in those couple games before getting injured. Rioux didn't play for a reason, watch the games from last year, the kid is lost in his own end and couldn't stop a squirt player on a 1-on-1, he is brutal.

Lee will be the primary goalie next year and with these big game losses this year, he gained experience. He is much more fundamentally sound and square on the shooters, and unlike Dunn, he doesn't scare the life out of me everytime he tries to play the puck.

Again....just my opinion here, we are all entitled to our own!!! GO HUSKIES :D

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I am so proud of the program for getting that first NCAA win. I think the Huskies should have advanced farther into the tournament but the loss is a little easier to take with a win we can finally look back on. As for next year, I am excited to see what happens to the current freshman after a summer of strength training and conditioning. Lasch and Raboin will be missed but our depth is still there. I hope Bob Motzko plans to recruit a few defenseman to reduce some of the shots getting to Dunn and Lee. Mike Lee will only get better and Dan Dunn has the skill to see ice time as he proved many times this year.

The worst part is the seven months we have to wait before we start again.

Is anyone taking bets on a Lucia replacement?? ;)

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

If you look who Motzko is bringing in next year size shouldn't be a problem next season. He has two very large defensemen and a big forward in Oliver coming in.

Just so people do know the size of our kids next year.
Oliver 6'2" 190
Dowd 6'2" 185
Thorson 6'1" 190
Reid 6'3" 197
Ravndalen 5'8" 170
Jensen 6'1" 190
Gravel 6'4" 175
Burrell 6'1" 194

6'4" and only 175... that boy needs to put some muscle on that frame

How did that "big players" experiment work out for the Seawolves? ;)

J/K, I like most of these players for more than just size. My favorites in order are Jensen, Reid, Dowd, and Thorson.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

One would think Motzko would have Ravendalen come as long as no schollie is used. I can't imagine anybody is offering him any money.

Man the squad is going to have a good mix of players next year. It will be interesting to see how good Reid and Dowd are and where they fit in. With only Lasch leaving from our starting line up will a guy like Christian or Volpei lose ice time to these guys? It should make everyone work hard all year for ice time.

I would think Volpei is seeing his time cut, and Christian needs to step up parts of his game but he is a fantastic penalty killer so that could keep him in the lineup.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

So with the new tentative schedule I am already planning my trips to St. Cloud and other places.

1. I will be in town for the Miami series. Annual bonfire weekend for my family so I will only be at the Friday game.

2. I will be going to Grand Forks.

3. Michigan Tech series in St. Cloud, because that is always a fun weekend.
