SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Actually it does have a negative effect, it leads to a build up of lactic acid in your body which hurts your endurance.

Myth.

And even if that were true, hockey isn't an endurance sport. It's more a bunch of timed intervals with periods of rest in between. :p

Plus, do you realize how long these guys would have to be having sex in order for a significant enough amount of lactic acid to accumulate in their muscles? Sting might be impressed. ;)

:)

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Sometimes it can be an athletic performance. I think it mostly depends on how much the tongue is involved. I mean, I can do push-ups with my tongue.

I have to see that. Yes...I am offering.

Yeah, maybe if they were going out on the ice 10 minutes later.

Even the night before it has a negative effect.

Okay Mr. Know-it-all. I already stated the fact. :p

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

How do you know?

I just know a bunch of random useless facts.

I was reading an article about a study comparing males and females athletic performance after having sex. Women have a better athletic performance after having sex while the men have poor performances.

Well, not to get too graphic, but I know a bunch of soldiers who swear by getting laid (or taking care of business themselves if you catch my drift) the night before taking the Army PT test. Seems to do the trick for them in achieving a better score.

That is called being relaxed. ;)

Yeah, but that could easily be the placebo effect; you think it helps, so it helps.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Where does everyone see us right now going into next year? I'll admit I haven't looked enough at everyone's incoming class, but after the first round of signings, and looking at who's graduating, I'd put UND, SCSU and UW as the returning teams to beat, and in that order. I also think that UW will get hit with the pro signing bug; I think Brendan Smith, and one other of UW's potentials will go. And even if they don't, I still give us the edge as of today.

Also, I am NOT in the camp that Denver will drop off the face of the earth, I still think they'll get home ice, they've got some talent returning and some incoming players, but geez, talk about blowing their best chance, they lose Rakhshani, Ruegsegger, Colborne, Wiercioch and now Cheveie!

So, what's the group consensus; being a big homer, or anyone else like us to finish 2nd next year?

I put us at 1 with und being 1a, I think this recruiting class is going to give us some much needed size, but everything could change if that Walters kid commits to und

Sure, Ryan Walters will come to UND to sit in the press box all year. UND is going to have a SMALL freshman class coming in, and Walters will not be one of them.

I say second place. UND will probably get first. UW did lose seven to graduation. I expect them to do well because of the bitter taste of this past season.

1) UND 2) SCSU 3) UW

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

What does our team need to improve on for next year?

Here's my list

1. Less passing, more shooting on the power play.

2. Less cute, more shoot, in general.

3. More physical, better and more checking.

4. Killer instinct (putting teams away instead of all the close games, ties, etc.)

5. Avoid letting up after scoring goals.

6. Keep scoring.

7. Get laid more often

So you want to be Wisco/NoDak???

KA's blog said:
The St. Cloud State men's hockey team got a verbal commitment today from Bryce Johnson, a forward from Grimes, Iowa. He played at Topeka of the NAHL this past season and is expected to join the Huskies this fall, likely rounding out their roster for the coming season.

Johnson led the Roadrunners in playoff scoring with five goals, eight assists and 13 points in nine games. He also was plus-10 with four penalty minutes and a power-play goal as top-seeded Topeka came within a fifth-game loss to St. Louis of winning the South Division playoff and making next week's Robertson Cup championship.

Johnson, who is 5-foot-10 and weighs 160 pounds, turns 20 on Aug. 31. In 58 regular-season games, he totaled 19 goals, 35 assists and 54 points. He also was plus-16 with 52 PIM, five power-play goals and two short-handed. He tied for third on his team in regular-season scoring -- with coincidentally the same point total as Cory Thorson, another NAHL forward from Owatonna, who recently committed to SCSU.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

You never know where a good deed will turn up. For the St. Cloud State men's hockey team, it's possible a simple gesture more than 15 years ago by one of their current assistant coaches started the process for a verbal commitment on Wednesday by Bryce Johnson, a forward from Grimes, Iowa.

Johnson, who played for Topeka of the NAHL this past season, grew up in suburban Des Moines, an area that in the past wasn't exactly a hockey recruiting hotbed. He attended games of the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers as a youngster and one memory that stuck was of Bucs defenseman Eric Rud giving him a stick after a game.

"It's funny how paths crossed so many years later," Johnson said Wednesday. "I remember watching (Rud) and the team when I was real young and that sort of gave me the desire to play hockey myself."

To say he belonged may understate the contributions Johnson made during the season. The 5'9", 160 lb. center found himself on both the power play and penalty kill units. He provided offense for both units, with 5 goals and 14 assists on the NAHL's number one power play, and also popped in 2 goals with 4 assists on the penalty kill, leading the team in short-handed points. Overall, Johnson tallied 19 goals and 35 assists for 54 points, third highest on the team. His 35 assists ranked second on the team. And those were just his regular season numbers.

When the playoffs started is when Bryce exploded on the scoresheet, leading the team with 13 points (5 goals and 8 assists) and also in plus/minus with a plus +10.
