Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread
It's already been implied by Motzko that Lee will play tomorrow. Reading the descriptions it seems the first goal Dunn gave up was soft. Good thing Tech's PK is good and terrible.
On the first goal, Dunn completely hugged the post, I have no idea how that one squeezed through, but I wouldn't blame him for that one at all... call it an unfortunate one and be glad it wasn't in a closer game.
But why is it always the coaches who end up hammered for it as though they have to find some magic touch to get all these guys to pull their heads out of their asses and do it?
Because he's not in his early 20's and unlike the players who are either on scholarship or not compensated at all, he's a professional and getting paid very well to coach. Like it or not, the buck stops with him.
Yes they need to do more than win, they need to start playing better as well and let downs are a pain in the *** but they are going to happen, they happen to every team, even ones that win championships.
Sure, and nobody's asking for perfection, but how often are we talking about letdowns? TOO often. They didn't look particularly sharp in the opening game against Lethbridge, the Union series, the Duluth series (we were really lucky they were playing poorly then, right now that would be a much tougher series), in Michigan Tech, in Anchorage, and the CC series other than the second half of Friday, and now the first game against MTU at home. That's WAY too many poor efforts. We can't just bank on the fact that we played well in Grand Forks, and Denver... and the fact that it was those two places points out something we've all noted... St. Cloud plays up to good competition, but usually plays down to poor competition.
Motox, Motzko doesn't answer to you he doesn't have to tell you squat about the decisions he makes. Wcha, yeah they were bad five on five i'm not arguing that. But there is no need to be a jerk about it. It's real simple, you don't like what i say, put me on ignore.
I agree that Motzko doesn't have to say exactly why some players play and some don't... you don't wanna publicly throw players under the bus and call them out in public, but to say he doesn't answer to him as a fan is completely off base. Big programs expect their coaches to be responsible for their actions, and they'll hold them accountable. You think Lucia could get away with "I don't have to tell you squat" to fans who aren't happy with his team's performance? Of course not, and we shouldn't expect any less out of Bob.
Not sure if this has been posted in here yet but Hobey talk has been started. Lasch is the only Husky on the list.........
He's gonna need to go on a personal tear, and St. Cloud's gonna need to go on a run, to have any shot at that.
Thoughts on last night:
-We didn't play well, but we played well enough to beat MTU at home. Normally I'd be more upset, but with bringing a couple 13 year olds and a 9 year old, I'm just glad they got to see a win.
-Dobson is a little *****. Couple of agitating penalties, and after Tech scored their last goal, Marvin had started to check a Tech player, and finished it but took the force out of it. That caused a little skirmish, and of course Dobson's pansy-*** was the last one to let it go.
-Barta played a good game defensively, but as has been said before, the Dane had arguably his best game as a Husky. What a difference between now and a year and a half ago he is with the puck on his stick. I still think that at times he could've sat a game or two more than he did, but now we're reaping the benefits of him getting the games where he struggled. And BOY did I wanna see him throw down with that moron that wanted to fight him in the closing minutes. First off, after everyone else squares up with someone on the ice, and you get stuck with the Dane, sit there and shut up and don't do anything. Secondly, how ****ed could you possibly be with him, its not like Oliver's English is probably good enough that he got everything you said!
-Dunn looked good, though not great; he really wasn't tested a lot, except for a nice shorthanded break MTU had.
-Roe may have only shown up on the scoresheet with a 2nd assist, I thought he really created some chances tonight. He made a great cross-ice pass on a rush where everyone in the building thought he was gonna take the shot himself, and it would've resulted in a goal if Kivisto hadn't made a great defensive play.
-Lasch actually played well defensively last night, blocking some shots, forechecking a little, and picking the pocket of an MTU player. Its not like he's incapable of playing D, he can be a pesky little player, I just wish we'd see that out of him on a more consistent basis.
-Hate to say it, but Raboin is gonna need to do something, 'cause he's headed for an abysmal senior year.
