Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

The paper may only come out once a week but he still has his blog.
We may not get full stories but I would think info would still come on there.
KA would have to be an idiot to update his blog or twitter while he's out. Esentially, that'd be working for free... not a precedent you'd want to set.

Kevin would be the most qualified person to write a book if the Huskies were to have a Championship winning season. Otherwise, I think the time will come when NOBODY will be paid to write about the Huskies exclusively. Sorry Kevin... you work in a tough field.

I work for free.

It sucks.

KA has a wife and two kids so I would assume if the times go to one day a week he is going to have to either quit writting for the times, have a second job and write for the times or write for someone else.... It really is to bad to see newpapers go down the tubes like they have. As much as I love to give him crap about stuff he really does do a great job and if his coverage is going away it will be missed.

If there is no local paper you are correct.:(

I haven't heard anything about the Times up and dropping six days of its run. Where is this coming from?

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

It's a corporate thing. All of the papers owned by the Times' parent company, I think, is having each of their employees go on furlough for one week per quarter or something. Cost-cutting measure.

Gannett said that there were going to stop the furloughs in an email that was sent in July. As a result of that, I lost my job at the Times. They must have taken a serious hit in the third and fourth quarters. I believe that KA is salaried so he has to take his furlough in one continuous week, where when I was there I could take my days individually because I was paid hourly.

KA's wife was laid off from the Times in September of 2008 as an IT manager. She landed another IT job at another company this past March. The best scenario would be that the Times has one weekly print version and is online for the other 6 days.

Well I hope that is the case. I wouldn't want Husky coverage going by the way side. Oh and I suppose I wouldn't want KA to lose his job either.;)

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

I suppose I should mention that the statement about the St. Cloud Times going to a weekly paper was just in jest. I am just upset that we don't get the coverage of Division I hockey as we once did. SCSU fans are fortunate that the writer for the Times--Kevin Allenspach--is one of the premier sports reporters around and does a great job covering the Huskies.

Plus, Garrett Roe has taken some maturity strides and is back talking to the "media." That is a good thing. But it sucked with Kevin missing the radio show. Don and Coach Motzko did a great job, but we are used to Allenspach's questions, insights and comments he offers the show.

Saw Startthebus at the St. Francis game tonight--a 4-3 loss to Robinsdale-Cooper. Benik was held to one goal, and was frustrated several times by a good defensive effort against him, especially #17. The recruit welcoming committee was again met with rave reviews, autograph seekers and giddy teenagers.

Rumor starter!;) That is a tough loss for St. Francis, Cooper sucks!

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

I don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but some retarded freshmen borrows like over 100 ids from their dorms, got tickets for the game in an attempt to sell them. Not realizing, of course, that the person with the ticket also needs a student id! I am expecting a few empty seats in the student sections and a lot of angry fans ****ed they bought tickets on Craig's list.

Find him then beat him.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Why in the world would the ticket office give 100 tickets to one person with 100id's? That stinks of trouble and possible fraud.

Because they are morons! These are the same people that think a 6:30pm game on sunday night is a good idea.....

I heard some people got screwed out of money the last time the Gophers came to town because of that scam. Hopefully people don't fall for that.

'Cause they've never capped the number they'll give. In my days we'd round up everyone's ID we could and make one trip, so we'd go down with like a dozen IDs, but I don't think we ever went over like 20, and every last ticket was always used. Hell, sometimes even rounding up nearly 20 IDs we'd still end up with people who didn't get in that decided they wanted to later.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Just watch for some idiot with a couple dozen tickets trying to scalp them outside the rink the night of the game. I'm sure he'll have some left.

Are there any other idiots we should be watching for? I don't need names, just basic descriptions.

I always wanted to scalp the morons who protest outside of the NHC before UND games.
