Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Definitely boner worthy. Scored a hat trick. Speedy, skilled with the puck. Scored on a major league wrap-around. Not selfish, made nice passes. With a better supporting class he would score a bunch more. A few nice MILF. Several GILF. A few groupies. We got invited into the locker room for a pre-game pep talk for the boys. We got the crowd following our cheers and chants. They virtually begged us to come back for more games. Very friendly crowd. We posed for several pictures. Got fans of the game acknowledgement. Rave reviews from all.

I heard you created quite a scene (all good of course)! Was there really a section P?:D

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Interesting perspective and I agree. I think this is one topic that isn't covered much by us. The transition game is very important. I think you have made a good point with zabs. He can skate and move the puck but, to add a bit to that, its also about positioning and finding holes to move into so the puck can be moved. From what I have seen he does well with all of those.

Any team can have guys very good in the D end or on O but going from one to the other is what makes or breaks opportunities. Now that I think about it, that's something I have noticed being a big issue. The Huskies typically have a hard time on that second pass out of the D end. There is the initial turnover in our D end and the first pass out. Then comes the disconnect. Either the player doesn't have the puck in a position to move it or doesn't have anyone in position to move it to. You see a lot of their good rushes come off of very good first, second and third passes out of the D zone. It also works the other way. They typically don't have enough pressure or strength to stop puck movement into their D end off those first and second passes.

Now this is my opinion and like i said before I don't know the intricacies of the game play itself (other than what I have visually observed over 8 years) but I can offer the opinion from a basketball perspective where transition play is very important, similar to hockey. If anyone could provide more insight as to how the hockey aspect of transition game works I would love to hear and learn more.

It hasn't been covered much? That is pretty much the first thing said about the defense. Personally I think some of them like The great Dane and Johnson are starting to show they can move the puck better than I thought. I wouldn't say they are world beaters or anything, but they are improving..... It wasn't only the defensensemans fault on saturday night. the Forwards need to be more consistant on the back check and the goalies need to stop the shots they are suppose too and some they are not suppose too.

The thing that stinks about Joey Benik's current situation is that he is the really the only one on St. Francis who can make any noise, and because of this, teams stick 3 guys on him alone...He makes sick passes to his teammates when he is covered like this, but his team mates aren't good enough to capitalize. I am extremely excited to see him play with other people thay know what's up!

Also, I like the ringback tone Skeeter!

I can go back and look but i dont remember references to the transition game or positioning in transition. I do remember many many comments about speed, strength, ability to score/hit and such, which are more relevant to one end of the ice or the other, not so much the in between. However, I probably just read those comments more straightforward then reading between the lines.:o

Now that we've gotten those "the glass is half full" *******s out of this thread....

Anyone else get the sick feeling that the Gophers are gonna finally figure out how to play good hockey and right the ship around... oh... January 20th? :(

That would be this team's luck.

Maybe Roe and lasch will decide to score more than 14 points in 18 games in the second half?:( Glen Sonmor said in the star Trib yesterday Motzko can recruit players who can score. I am not sure who he was talking about......

Maybe with a couple of weeks off teams will forget about the cross ice, back door pass to Lasch on the PP. I am really surprised that one still works once every 2 or 3 games.

I can't believe they still try and use it. It worked with Nodl because he was so good with the puck and if you laid off of him he made teams pay. If Roe actually passed the puck once in a while he could probably do some of those things.....

That play was money in the bank 2 to 3 seasons ago, but as you'd imagine after people look at film it rarely worked last year and I don't think its worked at all this year.

I'd put money on it.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

What's funny is, this team is set up pretty well for the second half. As inconsistent as they've been, I think that 34 points is very attainable. If you break the series left down I think we've got 3 series against pretty bad teams, or at least teams that we should handle, and 4 series against teams that we'll need to bring our A games against.

I figure we should take 10 of 12 points from MTU @ home, UAA @ home, and a H@H w/Mankato. I think that's very possible, as we've already had a screwup against MTU, so I can't see us splitting with them on the year after how well we've handled them over the last decade, and we turned in lackluster performances against UAA and got a sweep in Anchorage. That gives us the MSU-M series to end the year; ideally we'd sweep those first two, thus only needing a split against 'Kato, but if we do take a game off between the other two and need a sweep to end the season in a better spot, I think we can get that accomplished.

Then if we managed .500 hockey in a H@H w/Minnesota, @CC, hosting UND and @UW, we'd end up with 34 pts. I think the MN and UND series are very winable, and having seen CC and UW live this year, I think its very plausible we could steal a game on the road, even with our horrible recent record at the Kohl. Those streaks can't last forever (see SCSU vs. MTU earlier this year) and even if we get no points in that series, hopefully we could make up ground against the Sioux or Gophs. Honestly, the nice thing is even after traveling to UND and DU, which I'd have said would be the two most likely places we'd get swept, we've picked up at least a point in every conference series thus far.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

It's not as likely as, say, Priceless eating an entire box of Ho Hos in one sitting.

I'm lost... is there something there that I don't realize? I mean, I'd think on an empty stomach I could accomplish that if I wanted to. Is it harder than it sounds, or like trying to drink a gallon of milk in half an hour without puking?

Nope.
And even if they do, no reason we can't right the ship as well and I do not think they are more talented than we are.

I don't think the Gophers are horribly more talented than we are either, I'm just saying, that... In the words of BP:

"I have a bad feeling about this."

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, 'cause some of my bad feelings have turned out to be completely wrong. Just a feeling I have.
