He always wanted to be imPOtent.

In a major setback for US President Donald Trump, the top court refused to overturn a decision against his plan to send National Guard troops to Chicago to support an immigration crackdown.
...
The Republican-majority court said that the government had "failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois."

I can’t get into the NYT site, but no great loss.

It looks like Kagan wrote the opinion, and put emphasis on the notion that there must be very specific situations in place before they can enter.

I’m certain it’ll be abused.

That’s great news, except once SCOTUS wipes out EMTALA, where will these people go for said emergency? I assume brown people to the nearest ICE facility.

Blacks to the morgue. Saves time.

That the Republican Way.

If it is 9-0 it probably is not nefarious.

It’s really not…moreso ironic, as the Republicans on the Court are wanting to simultaneously abolish EMTALA. A version of this ruling has been in place since 2006…won’t claim to give a shit to know the nuances between the two.

It makes sense to allow trained professionals to assist people quickly in crisis. Like Clown said, it could be abused, but it’s already being abused. They’re abusing it now before our very eyes. This ruling doesn’t change anything for ICE.

Gotta love it when even the supposed liberals on the court pretend to know anything about psychology and medicine. Free speech my ass.

LGBTQ "conversion therapy" is not therapy, it is a form of child abuse forced upon minors by religious zealot parents. One that is now federally sanctioned.

Hearing the argument today that Trump will lose on birthright citizenship, but win at the same time. in other words, he'll lose in Court but he wins because he made an issue of something that wasn't an issue and it will have huge historical ramifications going forward.

While conversion therapy is incredibly wrong, if a therapist offers it, then you quickly know to move on. It seems like an easy way to know if you have a bad therapist who believes in the wrong things to help.

Sure, but the problem there is bad parents can send their kids to the quack cause they're the parents, subsequently destroying the child. But, that's America. We really do not give a shit about children.

Hard to care about that part of America. The kids will be taught to hate, regardless. And if they are part of the LBGTQ+ community, they will learn to hate themselves. That's what those parents do.

The birthright citizenship case is currently ongoing. Trump showed up for the first half of the argument, then left when the solicitor general sat down.

Early tea leaf reading indicates the government is likely to lose, but it's not going to be the slam dunk it should be. Alito and Thomas are likely to side with the government, and the other 4 GOPers weren't as forceful in their questioning as you'd have thought. Doesn't help that the ACLU's attorney isn't doing a great job on her end.

In the end I still expect Trump to lose, but I will not be overly shocked if it's 6-3 or even 5-4 with some very wishy washy language rather than the 9-0 (ok, 8-1 since Alito is a ****) forceful rebuke it really should be.

You don't have to care about that part of America while ignoring kids getting shit on. It's similar to stating that any female that believes in reproductive rights while living in a repressive red state has it coming if they don't completely uproot and move. Nothing is ever that simple.
