SCOTUS: sponsored by Harlan Crow

You're obviously kidding (I am assuming). But I'd certainly consider something drastic if I was president on July 1, 2024. America is almost dead and too many people, Biden included, are watching it die and not doing enough to stop it. Most are doing nothing. Our country is on its last legs. Between now and election day Biden and every powerful democrat should be doing nothing but warning Americans tha their democracy is literally being destroyed by republicans. Pull no more punches and if voters don't want to buy it, we're fuc ked anyway. I feel sorry for young people. People who have been old enough to vote during the 21st century have fuc ked this place up beyond all recognition.

I mean he keeps saying it...but it gets lost in the friggin noise of "BUT HE IS SO OLD!1!1!!!1!" or because some d-bag who hasn't showered since he moved out of Mommy's Basement to get his Liberal Arts degree is mad over Gaza. I mean I have heard him say it like 3 times since Friday and I have been trying to avoid politics as much as possible.

I mean think about this, Biden just had to say (from the White House!) that he doesn't want the power he was just handed by The Court (what Executive says that?!?!) and that now the only way for there to be any justice and to save democracy is for the people to do it themselves. The President of the United States just told us the guardrails in place will not protect us anymore. The system cannot hold. Either we vote and block Trump or its all over. And while MSNBC made sure to discuss...will anyone else? Is the NYTimes going to call out the 4 alarm fire in front of them...and for how long will they do so? Will CNN take more than a 20 second break from telling us that the Dems are going to get rid of Biden (which they are still trying to will into being) to talk about this? Of course not...

And this is what The Court and all the Heritage Foundation Flunkies are counting on...that a person of decent character like Biden is not going to abuse these powers. He won't even joke around about it...

I have never seen Biden look so defeated...he almost forgot to say "God protect our troops" because he added "may God protect our democracy" which he never says. He is scared...

He’s too demented and senile to be scared. At least Trump recognizes what a threat to democracy he is, right?

Well I mean Biden had a hoarse voice so obviously he is unfit. Trump is big and strong so he can handle this kind of power!

Orange Fuck is already asking for the New York conviction to be thrown out. After all, he's fucking immune.

I cannot believe these fucking clowns on the Court.

Orange **** is already asking for the New York conviction to be thrown out. After all, he's ****ing immune.

I cannot believe these ****ing clowns on the Court.

Like I said...he's going to push and push and see what SCOTUS will side with him on. And I wouldn't trust those six judges any further than I could throw them...

And I agree with this. Everything he insists as official will be deemed so. This is the most activist and corrupt SCOTUS we've ever seen. Outcome first, reasoning after.
Thirded

doesnt matter what lower courts say. These six enablers will green light everything he does.

The reason the concept of limited criminal immunity for a President in the performance of his or her duties is so foreign to us is that, thankfully, up to now, we really haven't had to consider it.

But think about it. Do we want some prosecutor in Texas trying to prosecute Biden for something related to failure to keep the borders secure. Or for conspiring to commit murder if he plans some military operation with the Joint Chiefs? I don't. You know the only reason that hasn't been done is that it has been assumed that you don't get to prosecute a President for things that he does as part of his job, some of which may be fairly distasteful.

Personally, I don't believe that much of what Trump is accused of doing can legitimately be included in a definition of his "job" as President, but as I said, that will be sorted out.

Sorry, killing a political rival or raping a pornstar or whatever other silly example people want to come up with is not part of his core duties as President, and will never be found to be such. Of course, there will always be gray areas, but that's what courts and fact finders are for.

Jesus H Christ. You're old enough to remember Nixon. He got pardoned, which implies that he was guilty of a crime which had to have occurred while he was in office.

Let's flip this around. Do you think the 6 GOP justices would've found the same way if it was Obama instead of Trump? I sure as fark don't. Call me a cynic, call me jaded, call me bitter, but every new Federalist Society judge at the state and federal levels gets absolutely no benefit of the doubt anymore. Scalia at least had principles and would side with the liberals when his originalist bent landed that way, especially on 1st and 4th Amendment cases. The current crop sure as fark doesn't.

45/46 presidents were able to do their jobs reasonably well without absolute immunity, even Nixon. I'm not willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater simply because Trump stomps across all norms.

In theory, but it takes more than a good showing. Biden has to win full stop.
When I say the Democrats need a good showing, I make an assumption that Biden will also win. I don’t see a significant count of people showing up to vote for their House representatives and/or senators to then skip the POTUS section of their ballots of cast their vote for the Orange Jumpsuit.

I mean most of the crime in NY took place before he was President (only the one payment came after the election) so not much they can really do to help him. You have to be President to be able to have official acts.

The rest of the trials though...even if they happen he will appeal until he dies.

Dear people who couldn't vote for Hillary...congrats you completely phucked us.

I agree but The Punditry disagrees.

Those scum still won’t admit that, and still won’t vote for Biden now

Hovey knows damn well this won’t apply to a president who isn’t a republican.

He’s excited for an authoritarian daddy to rule over him again. Can’t have these wimmin getting so many rights

I do remember Nixon. And I remember there was a debate over presidential immunity, which the Supremes said didn’t apply to things like complying with subpoenas, but we never had to get to the point of prosecution. And I remember the pardon for the specific reason that Ford didn’t want to put the country through the circus of the prosecution of a President. Not sure why he thought it would be a circus.

As I said before, prosecute him. The court rejected the ridiculous idea of complete immunity, and also rejected the equally ridiculous idea of zero immunity. A lot of space between those two.

Prosecute him for what? What will survive appeal? Georgia is not happening because they want oust Fanni and Cannon has stalled out the docs case. Chutkin will have her hearing and Trump will appeal it to the Supremes.

But hey, just prosecute him. The system is holding right? Wake up man...

The court rejected the ridiculous idea of complete immunity.

While strongly hinting that the line is infinitesimally small from that idea, at least where Trump is concerned. Because they way they define official act and limit their references in cases involving unofficial acts is big enough to drive an aircraft carrier through.

Shhh you sound hysterical.

fuck him, telling us were hysterical for thinking the court could strip rights and here he is explaining how it’s not a big deal.

president- immunity to do what he wants
gov agencies- no authority

I don't often say this but Joy Ann Reid is right...they made the President the King and the Court his "Hand" ala Game of Thrones.

Exactly.
