Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

But Susan Collins is a lock in 2020! ;) :D

Wasn't there a shutdown in the Obama years?

Yes, but the blowback hit the GOP more than the Dems. I thought Pres. Obama and Pelosi came out of that one smelling of roses.

Whatever blowback there was it pales in comparison to what 2016 did to the Democrats. And what was that blowback for, exactly? I honestly don't know.

Oh yeah, I am transitioning, taking hormones, experiencing family upheaval, irreversible body changes... just to get a deal on car insurance.

You're pathetic.
I know you are.

Some guy gets away with IDing as TG for the sole reason of lowering his insurance in Canada. He's no way like you, yet he can get the provincial government to buy into it by just saying "I'm female," and getting an MD to sign off. It strikes me as immoral/illegal, but if the govt. agrees??

Could the same situation be legal in the USA?

The latter part was humor, given the differences between M & F U25 rates. Not everyone is out to get you.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

That was my first reaction. With him, it's like "really, *******? You chose to go there?"

keep poking the bear, joe. I have no problems turning you to ashes.
Dude, I don't think joe was being malicious. I know it's extremely personal struggle and journey, but don't lose your sense of humor.

I got into an argument with Kepler and a few others on here a few months back. I think I said that someone shouldn't have made a joke about domestic violence and that it was too offensive. I think I would reel that back a little. The joke was tasteless and not funny at all to me, but Kepler wasn't wrong about maintaining a sense of humor. Roll your eyes at bad jokes. Educate on malicious. Walk away on hopeless.

Joe isn't a bad guy. He seems like he means well but has very strong religious beliefs and can be a bit naive on the struggles of being LGBTQ in today's society.

Instead of going to 11, maybe talk to him and explain why you find it hurtful. Maybe he changes his behavior to be a little more understanding. Maybe not. Maybe he doesn't need to. I don't know.

Joe makes an interesting and important point here.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Well, my reaction to that point is that the numbers of people that would actually do that are so small that it's entirely irrelevant.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Jeff Flake might be pushing back on Trump and company in a passive aggressive manner.
He's is in Africa on vacation right now. He's on the Judiciary committee, which means McConnell needs a Democratic vote to push judges through the committee which is why he's keeping the Senate in session. No one is sure when he'll be back.

I gotta disagree here. The onus isn't on Thurdercat to win joe over and automatically give him the benefit of the doubt. This strong religious beliefs but at the same time being a Trump Humper is mutually exclusive. Most conservatives are that way because they want to legalize hatred of certain groups. Its not up to the rest of us to figure out which insults were bad jokes regarding blacks, gays, abused women, etc and which ones came from a much darker impulse.

LOL. Awesome. This is somewhere the Democrats have actual power. Use it.

I reread the whole exchange, your post, thought about it, and I stand by my post.

This is interesting...

If Senate Goopers aren't going to get the documents they themselves have requested until the end of October, that doesn't give time to confirm the dude before election day. Mind you, they can still confirm him after election day and I'm sure they will regardless of the outcome, but that would take the pressure off Dem incumbents running in Chump won states to commit one way or the other on Kavanaugh before election day.

Orrin Hatch has never heard of Merrick Garland.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

McConnell has set the Kavanaugh hearing for Sept. 4th. The Democrats are throwing a fit because they wont be able to review all his records. (nor will the public) This is a gonna be a mess.

It will get rammed through before election day. And it won't change a single vote.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Well yeah, they never play by the rules so not sure why they would now. The 49 dems should just vote not to confirm even if it's solely because you should be able to review someone's records before they get a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. It can provide cover as well.
