SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

I didn't hear about this... Awful.

As someone who has had a few miscarriages I can’t even comprehend what she felt.

Male pharmacist refused to fill the rx for his moral code. Walgreens does let him do that but he was supposed to have someone else there to help her

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Steve Schmidt is on MSNBC right now telling Democrats to fight this nomination tooth and nail and do whatever they can to block this nomination before the election.

And he's appealing to Bob Corker and Jeff Flake.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Roberts is now the swing/middle vote. That is not good.

It would not be unprecedented from someone like Roberts to "drift" a little more to the center with his thinking and decision making. As I recall, everyone was pretty confident that Kennedy (who came on instead of Bork) was going to be a reliable anti-abortion vote. I also recall that Blackmun was a reliable vote in support of death penalty cases early in his career, and by the end was a pretty vocal opponent.

Roberts has the problem in that it's "his" court, and as such the legacy of that court will be tied to his name.

I'm so sorry.

I can only hope to be an advocate for women and vote to make sure this never happens again.

This is the play the Democrats need. No way it works though. They need one or two Republicans.

Agreed 100%. This should be the only thing they say from now until election day.

They should talk about how they need another Kennedy to fill his seat as well. That is what the GOP did with the Scalia seat.

I think there's some truth to this:

That's not going to happen. You can point to some of the decisions he's already made to prove that. He's not going to moderate.

Jon Meacham rightfully said on MSNBC that that's not going to happen. He did point out that a female Senator Margaret Chase Smith stood up for America. We need an actual Republican to step up. Or we're doomed.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

People hoping the next justice won't be another Gorsuch, or that Roberts will moderate are practicing wishful thinking. I seriously doubt any of that happens.

Regarding future rulings, even I'd be surprised if the courts touched gay marriage again. Most likely they won't take up the case. However, things such as a standard against gerrymandering are doomed. I'd also be worried about EPA and environmental lawsuits as well although that's more on Roberts than Kennedy who was a reliable corporatist.

Kep, putting aside my strong feeling that I have no desire to help the people who couldn't be bothered to help themselves, what you and I and everybody needs to do is get out and vote so that the SCOTUS isn't in a position to decide how much voter suppression is legal for example. Simply put Dems can go out and elect enough governors and legislators to amend a state's constitution to put fundamental voting laws on the books in most states outside of the Prairie and Deep South. Or even in those cases a citizens initiative can ban gerrymandering or expand Medicare. Its going to be hard work, but I suggest we all get off our a sses starting now and continuing for the next oh, dozen national elections or so.

We've got a better chance of seeing God. :D Unless someone's got a workable time machine, we've p !ssed away the court for a long time (Thomas' lifetime at least) and that assumes RBG and Breyer stick around another few years.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

The only hope is Flake and McCain. Collins will for sure confirm so she can also die in a fire.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

Speculation at best from the Examiner. No doubt some see the Court. New London would be nice to revisit. Roe most likely will get a review.

What are your heartburns and why?

The fact that you're in here bouncing up and down in a puddle of your own spunk when you couldn't be bothered to say a single word about immigrant children being taken from their parents gives me heartburn. Because you use words like righteousness and abhorrent, but clearly don't understand them.

Chris Matthews was adamant that they have to stop it or the Democrats will lose their entire base over it. I don't think the base understands what has happened and why the Democrats have no power at all to stop this right now. Interesting that Chris Matthews doesn't get it. Hell, Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Manchin might vote for the nominee regardless of what position the Democrats take.
