Saturday 11/28/09 -- Scores and Updates

Re: Saturday 11/28/09 -- Scores and Updates

Not sure, but how is Curry winning a boon for the MASCAC? I would think an actual MASCAC team beating St. Norbert might be more important for the MASCAC come selection time...especially if that team happens to be Salem St.

Because Curry plays teams that play Salem State. OOWP

Obviously the Salem State win over SNC is big too but Curry winning helps too as long as Salem beats the common opponents. Right?

I don't have time to quantify it, but the difference is so minute that it's mostly negligible. Doesn't hurt, but it's not a watershed moment.

UMD's win over Babson and Salem State's potential wins over Southern Maine, Bowdoin, Colby and NEC are the real keys, and I'm sure there are some other games that fall into that same category.

One loss by a ECACW team to anyone isn't going to make or break anything.

Obviously. However, I'm just saying that the ECAC west hasn't been even close to as dominant in OOC as it has been the last three or four years. if they losses do come, the ECAC West will be in trouble.

The SUNYAC has stolen games which strengthen their cases and weaken the overall strength of the ECAC West.

Manhattanville or Elmira running train on the rest of the ECAC West (which i don't think either will do) will not mean as much this year.

But if the ECAC-W suicides against each other, it will eliminate the stratification necessary to get more than 1 bid to a conference. That said, SOME conference out east is going to have multiple bids, but more than 2 in a conference? Doubt it.

As Matt and I discussed this evening, Salem needs to go 3-1 against the remaining Interlock teams (throw out St A's. That does not count) to have a chance at a post season invite.

Re: Saturday 11/28/09 -- Scores and Updates

Call me again when Kudroch, Corry, Bessing and Docking are playing....

Why is this always the answer whenever Platty doesn't win? If these guys broke team rules or whatever, I'm glad Emery is punishing them, and the team needs to move forth win, lose, or tie.

If these guys aren't buying into the system, the system isn't going to work. So it is probably for the better that they are on the sidelines.

Oh and FYI--I remember Emery hinting on BTB that we might not even see Kudroch or Corry anymore. I like what their "replacements" bring to the table anyway.

Both good points, though I would expect the SUNYAC, ECACE and/or NESCAC to be the beneficiary of such scenarios. The fate of the MASCAC is largely in its own hands (as joecct points out relative to SSC above).

1 game out of 25 isn't going to boost your OWP that much, let alone anyone's OOWP, which is a lot more than 25 teams.

Besides, Curry doesn't play Salem, Umass-Dartmouth, fitchburg, plymouth state, OR westfield state, who are the only mascac teams over .500, so you can throw common opponents out the window.

ok, just got back to the hotel so I figured I'd give a quick summery....

Having not seen Stout play before this year, I didn't know what to expect. however, I will say that they are not a speed team by any means. if these games were against slower teams that were more physical then I think both games would have been closer. that being said; Tom Lescovish, the goalie for Stout was outstanding, no matter how many goals he gave up. alot of the goals he didn't have much of a chance on, the D in front of him left him out to dry on numerous occasions.

Midd was pretty much what I expected. typical Beaney team, good skating and fast.

Norwich is a solid team with a lot of young kids in the lineup. Klingensmith is gonna be the difference maker for this team, and he definitely was tonight.

as for the championship game, Norwich out-skated Plattsburgh for the first half of the game. then Plattsburghs speed started to get to the Cadets and by the time the OT period started you could tell that Plattsburgh was clearly the better conditioned team. I don't know that the fans or Primelink could have asked for a better championship game. fast end to end hockey is always exciting for the fans and tonight was no different.

I really think the difference in games played was a key for the way Plattsburgh took over the flow of play in the third period and the OT ... Game #9 for the Cardinals ... game #4 for the Cadets ...

not gonna debate games played with ya at all, as I know that Norwich will be better conditioned later in the year. and as for the youth debate, Plattsburgh also started 7 freshman tonight.... including a freshman goalie.

Re: Saturday 11/28/09 -- Scores and Updates

One last thing(s) before I shut the computer down and head back to the Twin Cities and a visit to the Mall of the America.

Big kudos to the College of St. Scholastica. They were excellent hosts and did a great job of taking care of the visiting media. The Salem State team was impressed.

UMD for letting Salem St. use the UMD women's hockey team bus (they went to Boston College) from/to MSP.

Matt Webb for the cheese basket that was more than a cheese basket. I'll send you the pictures when I get home.

Toe Blakes Brother for the Pabst, and the SNC transportation corps for bringing it up. There are still a few left! Wish you were available for the beer after the game.

To the brewers of Point beer. That's good stuff!

The gang at Mars-Lakeview Arena. Nice barn you have there!

Re: Saturday 11/28/09 -- Scores and Updates

SUNYAC teams are definitly getting better, and its shown by the wins that the SUNYAC is putting up against non-conference opponents.Teams like Potsdam and Morrisville and Buffalo state are all examples of this.I think beating a EcacWest team isint what it used to be.

After Potsdam's beating of Utica friday night,I gained total respect for that team. They played phenomenal, played fast, and had great passes, and oh yeah their goalie played outstanding too.But after learning of some news before saturday nights game,i have lost total respect for all of the Potsdam men's hockey players.

It's hard to say if those guys match up skill-wise with Platty's suspended players. Ryan Corry is the Cards' best all-around defenseman, and Kyle Kudroch is a top 6 forward. Jared Docking has excellent speed, great endurance and creates havoc on the ice and Matt Bessing was highly touted, even by some on this board who saw him in juniors. This all doesn't matter, though. If Norwich fans are excited they tied Platty, I don't see the issue. After all, Platty was picked by many to win the Primelink anyway.

It is what it is...a tie. As a Plattsburgh fan, I'm not ashamed of that at all. :)

Hey Stones ...
No need for you to be ... you were the guys who should have won it all last year and are one of the favorites to do it this year ... Norwich lacked scoring last year and went out to replace it. It look like that effort has been a success and we are excited about that ... that's all.
Norwich/Plattsburgh is second only to Norwich/Middlebury as a rivalry over here ... in the eyes of Cadet fans the fact that you beat the Panthers on Friday night makes you heroes ... well sort of. ;)
