Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Appears now McQueary wants his turn to speak. Just read he's going to be on the CBS evening news now, 6:30PM Eastern

Maybe it's just a rural PA thing. I knew a woman whose 17-year old sister married the 40-something cop who was her security when she testified in a criminal case. She was from a small town outside of Pittsburgh.

It is probably important to remember that area is basically Alabama with snow.

as i've stated before... the harrisburg-philly axis is pennsylvania. the central mtn and western pa is pensyltucky. (pennsyltucky native speaking ;) )

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

So umm can't say that I blame him, but McQueary is in full cover your *** mode. Over the past couple days he's said he stopped the rape when he saw it and he said tonight that he talked to police. Focusing strictly on him saying he stopped it when he saw it, doesn't that mean he lied to the grand jury?

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Or a moronic jury. OJ and Casey Anthony did get off after doing heinous crimes.

Let's be careful here... While I agree on OJ, Anthony got off because the prosecution did an absolute s**t job proving she did it. All they really had to do was show up and say, "HELLO!?! GUILTY!!!" and they'd have gotten the conviction.

Many of the jurors came out afterward and said they thought she probably did it but the prosecution didn't prove it. Many were in tears explaining their decision after the fact.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

oh god. this just gets worse and worse. I didn't realize until now - the Attorney General who dragged his feet on investigating this case, putting one State Trooper on it - was on the PSU board and is now Governor of Pennsylvania. he took TWO YEARS (!!!???) before having Jerry Sandusky's home and office searched. once the new AG took over (last January she put the investigation into hyper drive). still a little funny the charges didn't come out until Paterno got his record win.

it seems to me this prosecution is going to have to go out of state.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Not too old to see the train heading down the tracks after his March grand jury tetstimony

"Joe Paterno transferred full ownership of his house to his wife, Sue, for $1 in July, less than four months before a sexual abuse scandal engulfed his Penn State football program and the university. "

"Lawrence A. Frolik, a law professor at the University of Pittsburgh who specializes in elder law, said that he had “never heard” of a husband selling his share of a house for $1 to his spouse for tax or government assistance purposes.

“I can’t see any tax advantages,” Frolik said. “If someone told me that, my reaction would be, ‘Are they hoping to shield assets in case if there’s personal liability?’ ” He added, “It sounds like an attempt to avoid personal liability in having assets in his wife’s name.” "

sounds like what he said is just semantics at this point..

when he walked in on them having sex, i'm sure it startled them and they stopped (he made eye contact with both per the testimony)...ergo 'he stopped it'. the espn article says he even noted 'not physically stopped it, but it was stopped when he left'. and he did discuss with it with police..campus police that is... nothing he said was new, just rephrasing to make himself look better, imo.

There was a time in my life when I would have been gleefully waiting to see what sort of abuse one school's fans would lay on another at a sporting event in a time such as this, but I'm glad that I've moved past that. The current PSU players do not deserve to be persecuted for the sins of their ex-coaches and ex-administrators.

OSU's response is pure class, and I'm sorry to say this (having been taught by my Purdue-grad grandfather to hate OSU from a very young age!), but this makes me hate them a tiny bit less.

Interesting take. I guess I don't disagree necessarily, but I personally can't be a PSU fan anymore. Maybe with time I can become a fan of theirs again, but right now? I'm done supporting that school...

I can certainly understand not wanting to be a PSU fan - I don't think the OSU administration is asking their kids to go THAT far. It seems that there's a middle ground that you and OSU already agree on.

It may sound like semantics, but him claiming he now directly contacted the police means that either he lied about contacting the police or the police dropped the ball big time in not pursuing the issue as far as we know. And his comments open further questions like if it was somehow stopped, why didn't he stick around to make sure Sandusky didn't abuse the boy further once McQueery had left the place, and a variety of other questions. We don't know how much, if any, this contradicts anything he said to the grand jury, but you have to assume that'll be looked at with a fine toothed comb and any inconsistencies could get him in big trouble. I think there's more to be revealed about McQueery's role in this whole thing. Just my hunch.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Meh. Universities are just shell corporations for real estate speculation. You can root for a football team even if you loath the school's administration and policies (e.g., Stanford). They really have nothing to do with each other.

One would wonder IF he turned this into Campus Police, records can be found, and it ends up that they didn't do anything.

Here in AA, the UM police are not campus security, but full blown police (no idea how they work out things with AA cops). So if that happens, heads will roll.

But, like you say, if stories are being changed.... good golly.

Either the police or McQueery could be in a lot of trouble. Of course it's possible the police say they don't have any record of McQueery contacting them and then it's a matter of whether people believe McQueery or the police.
