Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

It's not just the football program...

Now, one alleged victim of child sex abuse is speaking publicly about what he calls a culture of secrecy at Penn State.

When he first heard the allegations in the 40-count indictment of Sandusky, “I was enraged, very upset,” Paul McLaughlin said. The 45-year-old Arizona man said he was abused by a former Penn State professor and then ignored by university officials.

--

McLaughlin said it wasn’t the first time that former Penn State President Graham Spanier ignored a report of possible child sex abuse.

McLaughlin said he also brought forward concerns about abuse — unrelated to Sandusky, but instead about a special-education professor, who McLaughlin accused of abusing him when he was a boy in New Jersey.

In a civil lawsuit that McLaughlin later filed — and then settled — in the state of New Jersey, he details allegations of abuse by John T. Neisworth and a California man, Carl Geoke.

McLaughlin went to the dean of education, David Monk, and to then-president Spanier in early 2002. Both men, he said, brushed him off.

---
Documents obtained by The Patriot-News support McLaughlin’s story.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

and then it's a matter of whether people believe McQueery or the police.

Hmmm, tough one.

Yeah, McQueary says itwas ended when he left, but what did he do, wait around for Sandusky to finish up? He says himself that he didn't do anything physically to stop it.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Then-Attorney General and now-Governor Tom Corbett received over $200K in campaign contributions from Second Mile board members. Just a coincidence or....

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

The UNDPD officers in Grand Forks are sworn in as North Dakota state troopers.

Are there any colleges where the "Campus" police are NOT sworn in law enforcement officers? NMU PD has full authority/privilege... Seems that wherever I visited friends, this was the case as well... From my experience, this is the norm, not the exception...

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Isn't that just a way to make them feel more important than they really are? ;)

It's very similar to UMD giving you a degree in that respect. Except the cops get guns, which unlike a UMD degree, isn't worthless.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

First: What is his lawyer doing allowing him to answer these questions. Just horrible and did not help his cause at all. The majority of the people will think he is guilty now, than before. And the long pause to answer that question, and repeating it...just maybe one of the more disturbing, creepy responses ever.

Second: As far as the trial goes, Id be trying to plead this out, seeing that if he is convicted he faces life in prison. Not sure what he can plead down on though. At this point he has to take chances that witness/victims crack on the stand. Also a really smart choice would be to go for a bench trial.

After yesterday, I can't imagine his attorney wanting to plead this out. The prosecution's lone sane adult non-victim witness is changing his story to make himself look better. Hello, reasonable doubt. The DA ought to be screaming for a gag order on some of these people.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Quinnipiac does not have sworn campus police; they're called Traffic & Security and do not carry weapons or have arrest capabilities.

Ditto Lake State...at least when I was there. Southern Illinois where I am now does have an actual sworn police force.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Police say they have no record of McQueery contacting them. Not a big surprise.

He "talked to" the head of the campus police...the one that's currently up on charges himself...

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

I don't think Schultz is nominally the head of campus police, per se. They are underneath him somewhere in the org chart, but I think there's at least one level between the head of campus police and Schultz.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Having listened to the interview a few times, I'm convinced Sandusky reminds me of Herbert from Family Guy. :D

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

It may sound like semantics, but him claiming he now directly contacted the police means that either he lied about contacting the police or the police dropped the ball big time in not pursuing the issue as far as we know. And his comments open further questions like if it was somehow stopped, why didn't he stick around to make sure Sandusky didn't abuse the boy further once McQueery had left the place, and a variety of other questions. We don't know how much, if any, this contradicts anything he said to the grand jury, but you have to assume that'll be looked at with a fine toothed comb and any inconsistencies could get him in big trouble. I think there's more to be revealed about McQueery's role in this whole thing. Just my hunch.

all i'm saying is by police, i bet he meant campus police and his lawyer told him that was close enough to say 'police' and not be misleading. we know that schultz had the campus police under his control and we know they were also involved in the 1998 allegations. so its not that much of a leap to say they were involved in the 2003 incident and covered that one up too.

now how those campus police relate to actual police, i have no idea. but i assume someone will clean house over there as well at some point. probably quietly as there arent any big fish in that pond.
